MEMBER’S NIGHT CUM
TECHNICAL TALK
IFE Singapore Branch organized its first Member’s Night under the new
management council (2018/2020 term) on Friday, 21 September, at Hotel
Jen.
71 members attended the event, which included a technical talk on Video
Imaging Fire Detection Systems by Fike Corporation and presentation of
membership certificates to new members. In conjunction with this event,
there was also a signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between
IFE Singapore Branch and COSEM.
President Mr Christopher Tan also took the opportunity to explain to
members on the impending increase in the membership fee by IFE (UK) and
the need for our local branch to follow suit to cope with rising operation
cost.
Members and guest were treated to a sumptuous Chinese dinner. Special
thanks to Acclaim Systems Pte Ltd and Acclaim Systems (Asia) Pte Ltd for
sponsoring this event.

Special Interest Group – Fire Safety Engineer
In the last publication, we introduced the Special Interest Group ( SIG ) – Fire Investigation. We are
glad to inform our members that this SIG has various activities already in the pipe line.
In this publication, we are pleased to introduce another special interest group – Fire Safety
Engineering. This SIG has just been formed with Er Yeo Swee Khiank as the group leader. Other
members in the group include Mr Liew Kim Hoe, Er Shyam Dayapalan, Mr Brian Chin, Er Yeow Mei
Leng, and Miss Ruth Wong.

SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE
OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS – 43rd
RUN
The 43rd run of the popular Fire Extinguisher
Servicing and Maintenance course was
conducted from 2nd to 10th July.
15 participants went through a 6 night theory
cum practical training program, with an
examination conducted at the end of the
program before they were certified as
competent.
In this course, 14 of the participant performed
well and passed the examination with 1 failed
to make it.

For Fire News Quiz 16, we regret to have received no correct answer to the quiz, therefore no price
award will be giving out.
The correct answers for Quiz 16 is:
1) Class A medium hazard for the workshop, Class A low hazard for the office, and Class B
medium hazard for the store with flammable liquid.
2) 1x21A at the workshop, 1x13A at the office, and 2x113B (or 3x70B ) of foam extinguisher
for the flammable liquid store.
3) The relevant Singapore standard is SS 578: 2012.
