Message from Chairman

Dear IEEE members, IEEE needs support from the senior service minded

professional to take it over to the next level, which will be in demand of the

future, be ready to volunteer and strengthen the Vision of IEEE. AGM was held

on 15th July 2018 at IIT Madras, issues related to finance audited statements were

presented to the members. Limited participants include senior members graced

the occasion. The AGM was interactive by senior members, and their

suggestions were incorporated appropriately for the smooth functioning of IEEE

Madras section.

There are increase in number for the International conference organiser. Online

conference module is being focussed to avoid frequent interactions for the conference approval was

addressed, which also has the features of online payment. India council proposed to organise 15th IEEE

India Council International conference Indicon 2018 during to be held from 16th to 18th Dec 2018, in

association with IEEE Madras Section, meeting was held at Amrita Viswa Vidya Peetam, Coimbatore on

19th August 2018.

I am happy to share the inform that Ms. Kavyashree Prakashan, and Ms. R. Ankayarkanni, St. Xavier's

Catholic College of Engineering have been selected for "IEEE Education Society Outstanding Student

Leadership Award" and WIE Inspiring Student Member of the Year Award 2018, respectively. I request

Student Branch counsellors to monitor the award nomination request and apply in time to get it, forwarded

from the eligible IEEE Members. I noticed many times there is no award nominations from, most of the

reputed education institutions. IEEE Madras section sponsors four IEEE members for the All India

Students-Young Professionals-Women in Engineering (AISYWC) themed “Aspire, Ideate, SYnchronize,

Widen thoughts and Capture the Goal”, flagship event of IEEE India Council, hosted by IEEE Bangalore

Section at VVIET Mysore, from Sep 28th to 30th Sep 2018.

New initiatives or the benefit of students and professional members are being initiated. IEEE Madras

Section comes out with a proposal of organizing named Student Reach-out Program (SRP) by eminent

professors at different regions of Tamilnadu to teach the fundamentals. IEEE understands many professors

are in need of professional service to reach out the students and to initiate faculties to provide lectures in

the different geographical regions of Tamilnadu & Pondicherry. As you all aware that IEEE stands ahead

and would like to collaborate with education institution. It is also essential to enrich the student’s

knowledge/conceptual understanding by interaction with eminent professors. Two days program is

planned at Chennai and based on the feedback from the students next SRP will be organized at different

regions of Tamilnadu. SRP is a flag ship event of IEEE Madras section the training program and the course

material is prepared to crack the GATE exams key points will be taught during these two days, which are

taught as the long term courses and expensive through private coaching center. Expecting your

cooperation and support to serve you the best.

Kind Regards,

Dr. P A Manoharan

Chairman, IEEE Madras Section

Message from Editor

Greetings..!

It gives me pleasure to bring forth the July edition of IEEE Madras Section

Newsletter. The colleges are quite busy with the academic activities and

interestingly there has been lot of co-curricular activities too going hand-in-

hand with routine academics.

The education today is more an outcome based and a teacher in an academic

institution is more an facilitator for the students to learn. The resources are

available in plenty and the right usage of online available resources for a

positive growth is the need of hour and it is the responsibility of the mentors to rightly guide the students.

The potential benefits of IEEE has already mentioned in few of older newsletters. Still there is a gap

prevalent among students in becoming IEEE member. Moreover in several colleges, the IEEE student

branch is either not much active or nonexistent. The heads of Institutions shall motivate faculty and

students to make the IEEE student branches of the respective colleges, more vibrant and I take this good

opportunity to place a request to colleges to support in active functioning of IEEE student branches.

IEEE Madras section particularly much supportive to student branches and help the aspiring students to

explore the best opportunities available through IEEE.

The voluntary activities give a good exposure to networking and helps us to remain technically current. I

conclude my message with warm wishes to all the members to have a successful prospects in their

endeavors.

With regards,

Dr. S. Joseph Gladwin M.E., Ph.D. Associate Professor, ECE Department

SSN College of Engineering Kalavakkam - 603 110. Chennai.
