E+I Engineering’s IEC MV switchgear range is an indoor air
insulated switchgear for medium voltage power distribution
available in 12kV, 17.5kV, 24kV & 40.5kV
P4 Series (P4S) is an indoor air insulated switchgear for medium
voltage power distribution. This new series of switchgear is based
around the ethos of safety and reliability and is a result of E+I
Engineering group’s quest for continuous innovation and long-term
R&D commitment.
The modular construction of the range allows E+I Engineering’s
team of expert engineers to customise each medium voltage power
solution based on individual project specification.

SWITCHGEAR STRUCTURE
The panel is divided into 5 independent compartments which are;
1. Cable Compartment
2. Voltage transformer compartment
3. Vacuum circuit breaker compartment
4. Main busbar compartment
5. LV Control Section
1. Cable Compartment
The cable compartment is accessible from the rear door. This door has an interlock with the earth switch
ensuring that the door will only open when the earth switch is closed.
2. Voltage transformer compartment
The voltage transformer (VT) compartment allows for a withdrawable voltage transformer to be connected and
racked in. An interlock on the VT truck ensures that the door must be closed before the voltage transformer is
racked in.
3. Vacuum circuit breaker compartmentThe vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) compartment houses the withdrawable VCB. An interlock on the VCB truck
ensures that door must be closed before the VCB can be racked in to the service position.
4. Main busbar compartment
The main busbar compartment houses the main horizontal inter-connecting bus. It is accessed via a removable
panel at the rear of the switchgear.
5. Low voltage control compartment The low voltage control compartment houses all the main control and protection relays required. There is a
direct connection from this compartment to the wiring plug connected to the VCB.
*If required the plenum assembly is bolted to the top of the enclosure, the plenum assembly can be extended
past the Switchgear to an external wall.
SWITCHGEAR STRUCTURE
EnclosuresThe enclosure and partition are made from high quality cold rolled mild steel or galvanized
sheet steel, the processing of these materials is carried out by CNC punch and multiple edge
folding technology. The panels used within the structure are secured by means of riveting or
high tensile nut and bolt.
– Side sheets are made from durable 2mm Aluzinc sheet steel incorporating advanced double bend
technology to ensure additional structural strength
– Gland plates made from 3mm stainless steel
– Exterior paint in RAL 7035 light grey
– Doors with integral strength enhancing struts
– Drop pin door latch ensuring the door is held shut during an arc fault event
– Viewing window for visual confirmation of VCB status
– Mechanical VCB open push button ensures that the breaker can be manually opened even during
power failure.

The modular construction of the range allows customers to tailor each medium voltage power

Controls for increased performance flexibility.
– CB Control Switches, Lock out Relays, Annunciator lights, etc. can be added
