FAITH FORMATION’S  2013 LENTEN MISSION

This year the children will be collecting money during Lent for our sister Parish, Espiritu Santo in the Dominican Republic. Each class will be adopting a child from their boy’s home and all monies collected by the class will be sent to help that child. The children will be praying for their adopted friend and sending letters to him as well. The home needs $75.00 a month for each child for their care. Parents please have your child “earn” the money for their new friend by doing chores around the house or something extra during lent. Please stop by their classroom to see a picture of the child they are adopting. You and your family are asked to pray for the child as well. REMINDER – NO Faith Formation this Sunday. Sessions resume next Sunday.

Please keep in prayer all the Confirmation Candidates and volunteers who are participating in this year’s

Confirmation Retreat this weekend.

ATTENTION YOUTH OF OUR PARISH!!! Come and join other teens in your parish on Friday nights

from 7:30PM – 9:00PM in St. John’s Room. Stop by and see what’s happening!!

"Proeliatores Dei" is our parish's young adult group. Young adult parishioners ages 18-28 are

welcome to join us every Thursday night from 7:30 - 9:00 in the Lion's Lair for faith, fun, and

fraternity. For more information, please go to our website: www.thewarriorsofgod.org or call

Fr. Philip at the church office (813-885-7861). We hope to see you there!

Thanks again to everyone who donated beads for our Mardi Gras parade!

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

By now, many may have failed in Lenten discipline to some measure or another: the daily doughnut is simply too alluring, or a furtive puff on a cigarette irresistible. There is meaning even in the failure, though, a kind of reminder that we can-not save ourselves. Part of the power of Lent is that we do it together, and alt-hough individuals decide on different ways to keep it, it is fundamentally the same journey. We fall, we get up, we keep moving. The desire to "give some-thing up" for Lent is an age-old impulse in the Christian heart. We get better at it over the years, and move more deeply into the meaning and message of acts of sacrifice; so there is no shame in stum-bling, as long as we are not discouraged by the failure and give up. We are clear-ing space in our lives, after all, and some of the things we desire to give up are worth rooting out completely anyway. What do we do with the space we have cleared out by our sacrifice? The Lenten question of giving up is balanced by the

Easter question of our response to Christ's embrace of us in love: "What are you taking on for Easter?" --James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

Pensar en qué he ofendido a Dios, nuestro Señor y si realmente estoy arrepentido.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
