Push really has come to shove for Perry Dr. Steve Perry is an advocate for our children. He believes, like the late, great Dr. Napoleon B. Lewis believed, that a teacher has not taught until the child has learned. “‘I tried’ doesn’t cut it,” he says.The chief CNN contributor on education issues, Dr. Perry is the author of the book, Push Has Come to Shove: Getting our kids the education they deserve--even if it means picking a fight. During a recent interview, Dr. Perry talked about what makes a good teacher. It was a Sunday morning and he was on his way to pick up students and take them to school for extra instruction when took a break to discuss his passion: educating our youth. That’s just how serious he is and there are so many others out there who are teaching because they love children and love teaching. Those are the teachers I adore. We all should remember a teacher that stood out because that teacher demanded the best. Sure at the time I might have thought the teacher was heartless and hard, but today, I look back and seem to only remember the ones who challenged me to be

the best I could, or sadly, the complete opposite; the ones who were a joke and even then we could tell they didn’t deserve to be in a classroom. There are some great educators in the world; people, like Dr. Perry, who are passionate about their work and their students. They are skilled professionals who work tirelessly to give the best to their students. Unfortunately, however every teacher is not a good one. We also have many teachers who entered the profession because they needed a job. They don’t like children and they became teachers because current double-digit employment rates sent them looking for employment. Dr. Perry has no love for those type of teachers. When he interviews for teachers, he is looking for ones who buy into a vision that has students going on to college and successful careers. T h e f o u n d e r o f C a p i t a l Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, Connecticut, he’s also a columnist for Essence Magazine and he tackles the issues head on--everything from the Teachers U n i o n s a n d p a r e n t s , t o standardized tests and inadequate

equipment and supplies. When he founded Capital Prep, high schools in his district had a graduation rate of 29%. Today, an impressive 100% of Dr. Perry’s graduates go on to four-year college and universities. Actor, comedian, author Steve Harvey calls Dr. Perry the “hardest working man in the education biz.” Parents want their children to go to his school. Good teachers want to work for him. During the interview process, Dr. Perry even asks prospective applicants what they do in their spare time and how do they feel when 20% of their class fails.

The answers, to those and other questions, help Dr. Perry discern if the teacher will be a good fit for Capital Prep. For him, as should be the case for anyone who wears the wonderful title of “teacher, educator or professor,” excuses are not acceptable. He respects good teachers and has zero tolerance for bad ones. We need to support our teachers more and we definitely need to pay them more. Push needs to come to shove for more people. We need folks to join the Parent Teachers Association. We need parents to take interest in their children before the child brings home a failing grade or is about to get kicked out of school. Parents need to meet the teachers and they should know the principal. Push should have come to shove a long time ago. Current drop-out and truancy rates and school disciplinary problems are totally out of control. Teachers need help.Heck, everybody needs help. Start with Dr. Perry’s book, Push Comes To Shove, and let’s turn this crisis around. It’s that time! Push has come to shove. Let’s shove our children toward success.

Worth area, that the world knew nothing about are now stepping out from behind the shadows of fear and exposing their lives in a real way. HOW TO RECEIVE A $100,000 COLLEGE GRANT!If someone told you there was a better way to plan for a student’s college education, would you do it? Yes, of course! But, if you ask parents of college-bound students what their plan is for navigating the college process you’ll usually hear, “We don’t have a plan.” HOW TO SOLVE THE COLLEGE FUNDING DILEMMA!!! Funding for college comes from three basic sources – the federal government, the institution itself, and the private sector, where there are large sums of capital available for those who have access to the private sources. This is where our primary focus lies.Also, there are two basic types of funding – gift aid (money that does not have to be repaid), and self-help aid (money that is either worked for or borrowed). Gift aid is commonly in the form of scholarships, grants, endowments, and tuition discounts. Let’s discuss money that does not have to be repaid which are called grants. What are Grants? Grants are potentially a meaningful source of funds for many kinds of projects and groups, and applying for them can be a source of great hope and excitement. At the same time, few subjects in nonprofit management are surrounded by such dread and mystery.Instead, grants are donations of money given to charitable (501c3) nonprofit organizations and public agencies in order to meet specific, agreed-upon goals. Grants may come from charitable foundations, corporations, service clubs, or government agencies. They take time to apply for and receive – often up to12 months between application and, if approved, delivery of the money. Grants are most often given away by “Private Sources” and small, local foundations that care about local citizen efforts. It makes sense to see a grant as a fair deal between colleagues whose interests are similar, but whose resources are different. Private Sources, Foundations and other grant makers are organizations like your nonprofit or school. They have missions and goals just like you do. When a funder awards you a grant, they are doing so because what you plan to do with the money fits in with their own goals, initiatives, and dreams, and often with their founder's stated wishes. WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE A GRANT CONSULTANT - Hiring a Grant Consultant, who specializes in securing the capital needed for college funding is important if you’re serious about funding your child’s education, in the least expensive way. For most parents, sending their children to college is one of the five (5) largest expenditures they will ever face in their lives. In order to provide the service of obtaining a $100,000 grant, MCS will only accept up to 100 applicants per calendar quarter. By restricting the amount of applications to 100, this allows our grant facilitators too spend the appropriate time necessary in obtaining the grant.

In order to successfully obtain a $100,000 grant, there is a one-time required payment of $4,000. The time involved for obtaining a $100,000 grant in most cases is six (6) months. In rare occasions the time-frame will be extended to an additional six (6) months. However, if the $100,000 grant is not obtained within 12 months from the date stated in the Memorandum of Understanding, the $4,000 will be immediately returned, in addition to a non-performance fee of 12% interest.

NO STRINGS ATTACHED -- Although this program was designed to assist parents who are not wealthy, and who desperately need help in getting their children through college, there are no strings attached to the $100,000 grant. In other words, if a situation arises where the potential college student for whatever reason decides not to attend college, the $100,000 will still be awarded to the parent(s).

There have been instances in the past where the student decided to pursue a career in the armed forces, or another career objective. Regardless, the parents or the grant sponsor is still entitled to the $100,000. This is stated in the Memorandum of Understanding. The $100,000 can be used to supplement retirement or for any another purpose the client chooses. There is no other college funding consultant company is the U.S. that has the ability to raise the amount of capital we can raise in a short amount of time. Our Private partners are exactly that “Private.” And their method of raising large sums of capital is proprietary in nature.

DFWiRADIO scored a big one with the addition of community servant and activist Claudia Fowler to its already impressive line-up. Claudia is a Dallas native and graduate of Bishop College with a degree in Accounting. Most recently she was a case manager at the Urban League of Greater Dallas and North Texas. Claudia has been a community activist for decades. She began her activism career at 17, running phone banks in the 1970s. She also previously served on the Wilmer-Hutchins school board and she co-founded ObamaDallas with Molly Hanchey and Joe Rowe, in 2007. Whether she’s talking about upcoming elections, the relevancy of historically Black colleges and universities, or building stronger communities; the two hours that she’s on the air will be very beneficial to the listeners.
