The Hunger Games shows us that Katniss is allowed to be a girl and a woman, at the same time she can be feminine and she can also have masculine tendencies. Her bow and arrow shooting is amazing, hence why she won the Hunger games alongside Peeta. Lovers of the game, winners of the game and skipping to the last Hunger Games movie (Mocking Jay Part 2) the couple who escape the Hunger Games and break down the Districts. Katniss is far from romantic and far from sexualised. Infact Katniss could be seen as a tomboy; her masculine trait led her to build a protective barrier against the world, against the other players of the game but catches the eyes of the Capitol. Personally, I think that Katniss should come more to terms with her feminine traits, which are presented as a double threat as she navigates the feminine sides of both her personality and her physical appearance under public gaze. The film makers of The Hunger Games made a heroine of a novel look even better on screen and more of a person for young women in society to look up to. Katniss (played by Jenifer Lawrence is not only a champion but as a lead character she has placed everything on the table has brought to life this character who is beautiful, admirable, and attractive. Katniss has an eye for Peeta from the time she saw him but love and lust was not in her interests when she stood up to take her sister’s place in the games for the eyes of the rich living in the Capitol.

Throughout the game Katniss only has one thing in mind, her family. Surviving to help her family is all she hopes for and this comes into place (as we all know). Instead of trying to make Katniss a woman who defies the odds, or a woman who doesn’t need men to survive, Katniss was an ordinary girl from District 11 who lived in poverty and

broke out of it. This on its own may give people who live in poverty in some kind of motivation, to break out of poverty by winning the game (in their life), striving to help their family whilst helping themselves. Katniss started as an ordinary girl and then she developed into a her as the Hunger Games commenced.

Katniss had created a fan base for feminists; she is a character for people to look up to. Her motivation and determination during the Hunger games, led her to winning and then turning back to destroying the barriers between the 12 districts to fight the capitol. When looking into depth and being a girl who lives in London, I begin to see a slight relation between The Hunger Games and reality and what the future may look like. Districts are boroughs, people In the Hunger games are gangs and civilians of the different boroughs of London and the Capitol, the Government.

Overall, bringing everything I have learnt about feminism. I would say that The Hunger Games definitely passes the Bechdel test (because of Katniss) and is therefore a film for Feminists and all women of Society today.
