Health Services Union Protecting the rights of health workers

The health services union or HSU covers not only health professionals and allied health care workers, it also safeguards the rights of workers in security, maintenance, food services, nuclear medicine, dietetics, physiotherapy and more. Except for registered nurses, staff in aged care and private hospitals are also covered under HSU.

The HSU offers Journey Insurance to its members. Under this, any HSU member who suffers a loss of income due to an accident or injury on way to or from work is offered an income support of 85% of the weekly wage or a maximum of $1500 per week. The insurance includes bereavement benefits and various payments for specific injuries.

The HSU has been striving hard to improve ambulance paramedic numbers. Owing to the new policies of NSW government, paramedic numbers have not increased as per the population growth. The health services union has started a campaign dedicated to the issue.
