    Dear Parents / Guardians,

An email will be sent tonight, Friday, October 7, that confirms your current and most updated reservation schedule fothe upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences on Monday and Tuesday (October 10th and 11th). Please read and check youschedule carefully. Many parents made modifications and therefore multiple submissions using the PTC schedulinsoftware and as a result may have received a number of previous emails with earlier versions of their schedule. Thelatest schedule sent by email supersedes any previous system generated emails.

The PTC schedule software will be closed for parents at 8:00am on Monday morning so you have the weekend to maknecessary adjustments to your conference appointments after that time, any further changes will have to be done bcontacting the High School Office.

Parent-Teacher Conferences: 10 Parent Tips1. Talk to your child and get a sense of how they are doing and what any issues might be.

    2. Check Power School and make any notes about things you want to raise.

    3. Be on time You only have a short time with your child's teacher. This year there is no passing time for teachers

and you cant book back to back conferences(this provides 20 more conferences this year)

    4. Bring written questions What would you like to know about classroom, academic, or social happenings? What

requests do you have for the teacher?

    5. Surface concerns What concerns do you have about your child's performance? Bring any work samples, evidence

or examples that you think might be relevant.

    6. Ask for specific advice on what can assist your child within that subject

    Focus here on:

    knowledge and understanding Skills

    Attitudes and study habits.

    7. Ask for examples If the teacher doesn't get specific, ask for examples of what your child does well and needs to

    work on.

    8. Participate Parent involvement is one of the highest predictors of student success. Ask how you can help your

child better meet the leaning objectives. Explore opportunities for volunteering in the classroom or at school.

    9. What resources can you recommend to assist my childs learning?

10.Say thank you Sincerely thank the teacher for his or her time and hard work with your child.

    FROM THE FINE ARTS OFFICE:

    Checkwww.arts.ism-online.org

for more information about the show.

The following 100+ students are involved in producing this year's HS play, a musical adaptation ofRomeo andJuliet.Link t o Google Doc: http://bit.ly/r1n6wi

This is the final week of rehearsals before next week's opening night. (October 13, 7 pm). While the students know thathey are expected to balance their home work and their commitment to the play - this is the only week in the entirerehearsal process where EVERY actor, musician and crew member is needed at EVERY rehearsal (of course, they areexpected to be at EVERY performance too!). Rehearsals will end at 5 pm on week days with a full day Rehearsal onOctober 8. It will be very difficult for students working on the production to complete regular home work assignmentsand/or prepare for in-class assessments during the run of the play. (October 13-15 7 pm curtain and 3 pm matinee onSaturday).

HS PL Team has agreed to October 13-16 being declared a No Home Work Weekend for students involved in the

production. Students on this list should not be expected to have any assessment task or deadline from Block G onOctober 13 - Block H on October 18.

Students were issued with a Assignment Contract on October 4 and will be approaching their teachers to negotiate duedates for any class assessments that happen to fall during the production period. Please contact me Vicki Close in theFine Arts Office if you have any questions. ([email protected]).

Thanks for your co-operation and understanding.Vicki Close
