THE REDWOOD ALERT
Many of you know our speaker, Peter Hannaford, as chairman of the Humboldt County RepublicanCentral Committee for the last two years, but his career of more than forty years includes many morethings. He was closely associated with President Ronald Reagan for nearly a dozen years, beginning the Governors Oce in Sacramento. For several of those years, he was Mr. Reagans chief writer.
Six years ago, after 22 years in Washington, D.C., Peter and his wife Irene decided to return to Califorand settled in Eureka because of long ties to Humboldt County. Here he has served on the County GrJury, the City of Eurekas Finance Advisory Committee and as editorial pages editor of the late EurekaReporter newspaper.
His columns on current events are published frequently in The American Spectators daily online editOver the years, he has had eleven books published, the latest of which is Presidential Retreats, andis going to tell us about them, over lunch at Baywood....

The Right Stu
ear Friends of Republican Women, Federated,
is my hope that all of you had a blessed and happy Christmas and New Year and, with smiles onour faces, are picking up the remnants of 2012 and readying yourselves for our new beginning. Aswith any of the disappointments in our lives, life goes on; and how we handle those times of
ustration and disillusionment determines if we are made of the right stu.
ast November, Debbie, Rose and I attended a California Federated Republican Women conference inancho Cordova, near Sacramento. Having been installed as your newly elected president the dayefore, my head was spinning with ideas to share with you as we walk together into our new year asepublican women. I was equally thrilled to learn that the state sta had been discussing the same
deas as well.
he entire conversation obviously centered on rebuilding at each level of our organization for theentral purpose of breaking down the false concepts and judgments that had been placed on
epublicans and Republican women in particular.o you realize that it was the Republican Party that set the slaves free? Or that Republicans were
esponsible for starting the Suragette movement? Dont forget that it was Teddy Roosevelt whotarted the United States Forestry Service where 194 million acres were placed in reserve. Inddition, he was also responsible for anti-trust regulation which opposed the practices of bigusiness as it related to the people of America he had sworn to protect.
e had the right stu, and so do we. Its time to rebuild. What will we propose to achieve this yearnd the year to come in our community? What will it look like? Lets talk. With all of us workingogether toward common goals, the work will always be lighter.
ooking forward to seeing you at the Baywood Golf and Country Club on Jan 17th at 11:30 A.M. Theuncheon cost is $16.50 for Caesar Salad or Tri-colored Cheese Pasta with Chicken. Beverages only:
3.00.his is our White Elephant fundraiser, so clean out those drawers and closets for those treasures
which need sharing.
s I think of the potential of this group of amazing women, Im excited about our future as a groupnd the impact we can make in our community. You are the Right Stu.
Warmest regards,
HRWF President

PUTTIN UP THE FLAG(from BillCook.net Christian videos)
So, my daughters home from college this weekend and she says toDad, why are you puttin up the ag?
I didnt know what to tell her, so I said, I dont knowit looks like a nice day and it seems like a good thing to do.
She went back in the house.Im not that great with words,
but I thought about ither questionwhile I was out mowing the
This is what I wished I would have told her.Im puttin up the ag because its Saturday
and later on, maybe Ill invite the neighbors, Charlie and Dee, ov

cause we never agree about anything, Charlie and I.
Im puttin up the ag cause Charlie and I can do that herewe can disagree about politics or religion or whatever without eithe
worrying that someone will come haul us awayor maybe well go cheaper---hot dogs, cause around here
almost everyone can aord a hot dogcause were blessed in this country
yes, blessed. Thats why Im puttin up the ag.
And then, tomorrow, well go to church and well worship.
Im puttin up the ag cause around here,we can think about God, talk about God, and worship God
and no one can tell you you cant.
And Im puttin up the ag because the neighbors kids in the Marand I want his parents to know Im proud of him.
And, wellIm puttin up the ag cause its a nice place. Its not a per fect placenot even close
but its my place and Im glad it is.
So--- Im puttin up the ag because its Saturdayand because I can.
AMERICANISMREPORT
Because our military families living overseas live at, orust above, the poverty level, HRWF decided to help
support our troops by clipping 'manufacturer'scoupons' for food and household items from newspa-pers and magazines and mailing them to an overseasmilitary base. These coupons are honored at PXs onAmerican bases around the world and help defray thecost of family living. (They are even honored severalmonths after the expiration date.) This is a very worth-
while program we are proud to support.n November of 2009, the face value of our rst mailing
was $5,988; our three mailings in 2010 totaled $45,011;2011 mailings totaled $54,184; our rst 2012 mailingwas $30, 504, for a grand total, to date, of $135,690.
____________________
If you would like to help, here are the GUIDELINES FOR COUPONS:
Cut out and trim Manufacturer's Coupons only.NO store coupons (like Target, Rite Aid, Safeway) and
NO restaurant coupons (like Olive Garden, RedLobster, etc.)]
Sort into 2 piles: Food and Non-Food
(use 2 baggies or envelopes; label each). FOOD includes: all food/beverages for humans,
candy, gum, mints, diet drinks, baby formula, drinks.
NON-FOOD includes: vitamins, drugs, dog food, cat food, cosmetics, cleaning products, etc.
Add up the face value of coupons in each category. For FREE items, check coupon for amount, such as"Up to $2.99," etc.; otherwise, estimate.
Write total on each envelope. Bring to me, GOPHeadquarters, or the President at or beforeour next meeting.
____________________
On Nov. 19th, I mailed a box containing over $31,000worth of coupons to our Air Force base on Okinawa.
Our total for 2012 is $104,577. and, since we started inNovember, 2009, $209,762.
Thank you all so much for your invaluable help withthis project. It is greatly appreciated by our troops, byHRWF, and by me. Chris Wennerholm 725-2020.

Happy New Year!Welcome back to dysfunctional Californiapolitics! The Legislature ocially reconveneson Monday, yet Governor Brown and hiscronies have already managed to mismanageour government.
An investigation into the State Parks andRecreation department secret funds debacle have found that Parks ocialswere deliberately and intentionally hiding their surplus money over many
ears. The State Parks and Recreation department were able to conceal $54million in two secret funds for over 12 years.
n yet another asco, the scal cli agreement in Congress left California45 million short of their June budget projection. As a part of the scalli negotiations, Congress abolished the state inheritance tax credit. Withhe 2010 Bush tax cuts set to expire, Governor Brown and the legislature
were counting on a new income of federal tax transfers. But since Congressermanently blocked the inheritance credits for states, Governor Brown willot be receiving the $45 million he was counting on to help balance theudget.
his is just the beginning of short-sidedness for this Democrat super
majority. Stay tuned! ___________
