But before we do that, Id like you to answer a question about your own motivations for creating

It may seem like a no-brainer question.but the answer is important because its all about identi-fying whats in it for you. That may sound like a selfish perspective but if youre not clear on what

So - different things motivate different people and there is no right or wrong answer to this ques-
tion its all about whats important to you.
You might be writing thisInstant Audio Workbook because you want to be seen as an expert and
that feels good to you you have a need for recognition and acknowledgment.
You might be writing this because it solves a problem that you yourself have experienced and youare so excited about how much better your life is that you just have to share it with others perhaps
you have the need for connection and for making a difference in other peoples lives.
Or an obvious answer you may be creating this Instant Audio Workbook because you want to
make more money. Thats fine but I suggest you take it one step further and identify just why you
want more money. Is it for the feeling of security that money brings? Do you want to live in a different
part of the world? Have a cool, fancy new car? Send your kids to college without even blinking an eye
at the cost?
Bottom line identify whats really in it foryou by creating thisInstant Audio Workbook and keep
that in the forefront of your mind or better yet on a 3x5 card on your desk so that you can see it
every day - particularly as you create higher level products that may be a bit more complex.
For example I have a coaching and consulting business called Simply Successful and I created a
Level 1 Instant Audio Workbook for my clients and prospective customers called What Do I Really,
Really, Really, Really Want?, and I wrote it for the following reasons:
I. It dealt with a problem that I had experienced in my own life waking up one day and
realizing that I had been doing lots of things that otherpeople wanted but having no clue what I
really wanted. I turned my life around by asking myself the simple question what do I really want?
And I just LOVE sharing that with others. It makes me feel so good when somebody gets back to me
and lets me know how much theyve learned about themselves, and the steps theyre now taking to
live the life theyve always wanted. It really helps me to let go of the pain of the struggles that I experi-
enced when I know Ive helped someone else. So its a bit of an ego trip to get feedback from my
clients and have them rave about how much my product helped them but thats what motivates me.
II. I also created theInstant Audio Workbook to make more money and for me its directly
associated with at least three things I am passionate about - the first is maintaining my beautiful
home second is taking multiple fabulous ski trips to exotic places every yearand the third is having
lots of extra cash to shower on my nieces and nephews whom I absolutely adore. So tapping into
how those three motivators make mefeel as I experience them keeps me fired up and moving forwardwith creating products for my business.
III. And on a practical level I created theInstant Audio Workbook because I found it was a
whole lot easier to sell people on a product for $29.95 then to try to sell them right off the bat on a
$4000 coaching program. And I like things to be EASY for me and for my clients it feels good.
So great- I hope your mind is whirling with all the rewards that youll experience as you start to
create one Instant Audio Workbook after another! And youll have a chance to write those rewards

down and add to them or change them in your workbook so that youre always clear on whats in it
for YOU!
Now the next two questions can be answered in either order..depending on which one is easier
to answer first and they are:
a. What topic do you want to write about?b. Who is the perfect client for yourInstant Audio Workbook? In other words, who do you want to
reach with this product, and what do you hope they will do after using it?
And the way you answer one question will probably influence the other. So again answer which-
ever one comes easiest to you.
For me I started with the second question who is my perfect client? The clients I wanted to
reach were Baby Boomers who had either lost their long time corporate jobs due to resizing or
were given the golden handshake and forced to retire. (in other words people who fit my own
profile.) I wanted to reach people who were feeling a loss of identity without their jobs but who
also had never given themselves permission to discover what they really wanted. And my hope was
that they would realize that it was high time for them to take care of themselves (not something Baby
Boomers were taught how to do).and that the clearer they got on what they really wanted the
easier it would be to create a life they loved perhaps for the first time in their lives. I wanted them to
see that what at first felt like a catastrophe such as the loss of their job could turn out to be the
best thing that ever happened to them.
So that was my target market. And let me say that in this case I created another Instant Audio
Workbook with a lot of the same content but a slightly different focus my second version of What Do
I Really, Really, Really, Really Want? is targeted for a younger market that is so stressed out with the
demands of family and career that they havent taken the time to see where they are heading or gotten
clear on what they really wantand I want them to realize that they need to take a look at that NOW
so they dont end up at retirement age looking back and wondering whatever happened to their
dreams. So perhaps I could have combined material for both markets into one Instant Audio Work-
book but I found that it was easier to create two separate workbooks for two different markets
because their problem was a bit different.
Again the bottom line is that the more specifically you can answer the question who is the per-
fect client for your Instant Audio Workbook? the easier it will be to create your program and the
easier it will be to market. Which brings us to the question of what topic do you want to talk and write about? If youve
already answered the question about your perfect client, you obviously want to pick a topic that
solves a problem for that target market - one they are willing to pay to have solved.
Remember that overall, people have problems and they want to solve them. And will pay good
money for doing so. Or another way to look at it is:
What do people want to learn about so that they can solve their problems and create a better, more
fulfilling lifestyle for themselves?

So here are some questions to consider as you choose your topic. The first one is.
1. What have you already recorded? A lot of coaches, authors, experts, practitioners and profes-
sionals have already recorded audios or videos that could help solve a problem for somebody. Per-
haps youve done a Blog Talk Radio Show a podcast or put something up on u-tube. Well there
you have it!a. Every recording has a url get the url and listen to your recordings
b. Pick one ANY one to get started and create your workbook from a current recording. Bingo
youre on your way!
2. The second obvious question is - what have you already written about?
a. Have you written a blog? Newsletters? Articles? Chapters? Books? Your own journals?
b. Pick a topic from something youve already written that can help solve a problem for some-
body, and then, you can either expand on what youve already written for your first audio or if youve
written a lot take a topic and break it down into individual aspects and then pick one aspect to
address for your first audio and Ill speak to that a little more in just a bit.
3. The third question is what is your area of expertise as a professional, a practitioner, coach or
author? What have you taken the time to study? In what areas do you hold degrees or certifications?
What body of knowledge do you already have under your belt that could help others so they dont
have to do a lot of research? Perhaps youre a lawyer and could do your level oneInstant Audio Work-
book on Protecting Your Childrens Inheritance: How to Create Your Will in three easy steps. Or
maybe youre a tax accountant and could do your first product on The hidden money in your busi-
ness. Just remember that information that is second nature to you is not second nature to every-
body else and you could help to solve a lot of problems with the expertise youve already acquired.
4. The next question which is the one I used to pick my first topicis: Whats a problem
youve had in your life that you were able to solve.no matter how long it took or what steps you had
to go through?
Now, as Bill would say - most problems are related to Sunny-Honey-Money:
"Sunny refers to your health and well-being
"Honey to your relationships
"Money refers to your prosperity, financially and otherwise
Maybe youve had several problems or issues youve had to deal with: caring for aging parents, job
loss, health issues, financial issues, parenting challenges, relationship wins and losses it could be
almost anything
One piece of advice though, as I mentioned earlier is think about picking an aspectof a problem
that youve had to deal with for your first Instant Audio Workbook. Dont try to solve the WHOLE
problem just pick a specific piece of the problem to address.
For example when I was considering the topic of job loss, I broke it down into the following aspects

" Loss of self esteem and how to reclaim your identity outside of your job
" Going through the grieving process so that you can move on to an even better outcome
" How to manage your relationships while youre going through your own process of recovery
from the loss
" How to practice self-care while youre recovering" The dangers of being run by fear rather than hope and expectation
" How to manage your wealth while you make the transition to something new
" And seeing the loss as an opportunity to do what you have always dreamed of doing and taking
the time to figure out what you really want for the first time in your life. And thats the one I
chose to address first.
The nice thing about breaking the topic down into its different parts is that you can easily start
with one aspect and create a 20-30 min audio and 10 page workbook and then do your nextInstant
Audio Workbooks on the other aspects and before you know it, you have a series that you can sell for 5times more than your first one! But Im getting ahead of myself.
Ok so if you still arent sure what topic you want to address here are two more questions:
First one is - What are YOU interested in?
"Think back on a time when you were reading, watching TV, talking with friends, you know - and
you heard or saw something that fully grabbed your attention. Everything else around you
faded..and at that moment, all you wanted to do was dive into whatever it was that came to your
attention and know more? That can be your first audio!
" You can also think about what you love to do that has brought you joy and fulfillment that you
would enjoy sharing with others -
Maybe you have a hobby youre passionate aboutfor instance, I fully intend to do a series
ofInstant Audio Workbooks surrounding my love of skiing particularly on how to get back on the lift
after a serious injury.a problem Ive unfortunately had more than once but one that I can hope-
fully help others to address.
Maybe you have a mental technique that you use almost without thinking that could help
others.such as focusing on what youre grateful for, identifying all the positive aspects of your life,
or learning how to expect miracles.
Just consider all the stories and experiences that youve learned from and were able to apply toother areas of your life there are pearls of wisdom that you can easily pick up from the beach of
your life and use to help others.
So - hopefully by now you are brimming with ideas for your firstInstant Audio Workbook and are
about to turn off this audio so you can run and record your own. But if for any reason you s till dont
believe you have anything of value to offer others.just pick something that YOU would you like to
know more about.

"Google the topic and do a little research.
"Read a book or two on the topic. Now you already know more than a lot of other people do on the
subject.
You can make a little new knowledge go a long way by putting your own spin on it and how you
applied the knowledge to your life even if its about how to fix a leaky sink or how to plant tulip
bulbs.

So to summarize first get clear on why you want to create thisInstant Audio Workbook and how
your life will be different once youre recognized as an expert in your chosen area. Get clear on the
rewards youll experience and write them in your workbook.
Then write down a description of the perfect client for your product and choose a topic that will

2Establishing Your Rewards
Before you choose the topic for your first Instant Audio Workbook , or select the problems
youre going to be solving for your readers, its important to identify your own motivations for
creating this product.
In other words:
1. Why are you writing this Instant Audio Workbook in the first place?
2. What will your life be like when you have a successful product on the market? What will be the
rewards for you?
Why do you think its important for you to have clarity on the rewards youll get for creating this
product?
Whats the danger of NOT being clear on whats in it for you?
Review the list of needs/wants below and circle the ones that apply to you as you think about
WHY youre creating this product. Be honest with yourself. Nobody will see this but you. So even if
some of your needs and wants make you blushits important to identify whats motivating you
and what feels good toyou.
There are no right or wrong answers, here - everybody has a slightly different set of needs and
