…there are specific steps you can take to attract quality and
talented employees on Craigslist.
Be Patient.
Understand that you are likely to get more unqualified applicants,
than qualified applicants.
Be Patient.
You only need ONE good applicant…
…so give it time.
Recruiting the right employee is a two step process on CL
1. Market Your Position (via your ad)
2. Pre-screen the Job Seeker (via your application process)
When Placing a Job Ad on CL You Should Consider the
Following:
1. THINK LIKE A CRAIGSLIST JOB SEEKER
They are filtering through dozens and dozens of ads and
opportunities
They are only reviewing ad titles
When they click on your ad title make an impression with your
ad
2-TWO CATEGORY OPTIONS:
A) General Labor
B) Skilled Trades / Artisan
3- CONTACT INFO
A) CL mail relay
B) No replies to this email
*DO NOT Post Your Email Address
*DO NOT Post Your Phone Number (can post on
application)
4. POSTING TITLE (job ad title)
Use the maximum number of characters allowed in title field
Use 1-2 primary keywords that job seekers will use to search for
jobs, i.e. “landscape” and/or “landscaping”

LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE FOREMAN *Serving Upscale Landscaping Clients
5- POSTING BODY (job description)
The primary text used to describe the position and
requirements
Grab the job seeker’s attention with….
…short, simple and benefit focused text.
Write to the applicant…
…if you are hiring general labor keep it short and easy to
understand…
…if you are appealing to higher skilled applicants use language
they use.
Bullet points to highlight benefits & requirements
Don’t write a novel. Screen your applicants on the next
step the application.
Use HTML tags and Link Images to enhance your ad

6- COMPENSATION FIELD
Be as descriptive as possible, include benefits if applicable
7- LIFE CYCLE / FREQUENCY OF AD:
Ad will post for 30 days
Some locations and/or categories with a lot of posting will dilute
your ad faster
To offset the dilution of your ad you can use the “repost” option
(and repay)…
…within 30 days of your original posting.
8- ENGAGE
You want the job seeker to leave CL asap and land on your
website…
…which is why you have a link to the ONLINE application on
your website.
Make it easy on them. They are already online looking for a job so filling out a form is the quickest
solution.
Don’t make them download a form, fill it out, scan it and
email it back to you.
Simply create an application form on your website and have them fill it out and press send.
9- IMAGES
Use the IMAGES option when creating your job ad
Upload as many as 24 images (6-8 good images should be
enough)
Use images to highlight the type of work you provide and
customers you serve.
10- AD PLACEMENT TIMING
Post early in AM Monday – Thursday, not posting Fri - Sun
