HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN AND ANCILLARY TASK?IT IS A CLEAR CONVENTION THAT THE TRAILER AND THE ANCILLARY TASKS MUST HAVE SIMILARITIES WHETHER IT IS THROUGH COLOUR OR IMAGES SO THAT THE AUDIENCE KNOWS THAT THE SAME FILM PACKAGE IS BEING PROMOTED.

FROM EXTRA RESEARCH ON THE BATMAN FILM PACKAGE.

This is the batman film poster and as you can see the background is quite visible to see that it is the building present in the trailer so therefore the same location is used to indicate that this is part of the batman movie. On the trailer there is very dark blue tint throughout the trailer and we see that continuity on the poster to with the sky being quite dull.

CONTINUING

As said on the previous similarity it is clear the blue colour house style is placed on this magazine and the white which is also seen in the poster itself. The background of this magazine links back to the colour of the batman logo on the poster again continuity shown.

SO FOR OUR TRAILER WE…

• We felt the package had to have the same continuity as the example of ‘Batman’ so that our package is promoted to a wider audience but also allow the audience to realise all these media formats are promoting our film ‘Suburbia’• So how did we go about doing our package?

AS WITH THE SUBMARINE TRAILER OUR TRAILER THROUGHOUT HAD A CLEAR RED/ORANGE TINT AS SEEN BELOW:

IMAGE FOR BOTH POSTER AND MAGAZINE

• So our main protagonist in our trailer James Smith throughout the trailer is seen with his signature hoody on both half of the trailer and this was a defining feature so therefore for our main images we had him wearing his hoodies so that he is in character and in contrast wearing both the red and blue hoody.

ANOTHER CONTINUITY FEATURE WHICH WE USED WAS USING THE NEUTRAL COLOURS. WHITE IN THIS CASE SYMBOLISED THE GOOD AND INNOCENT AND WE SEE MOST OF THE BRIGHT NEUTRAL SCENES AT THE START OF THE TRAILER WITH OUR MAIN CHARACTER WEARING A BLUE HOODY. HOWEVER IN THE MAGAZINE WE WENT FOR BLACK IN THIS CASE SYMBOLISED EVIL AND TROUBLEMAKER AND WE SEE MOST OF THE DARK SCENES IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE TRAILER WITH OUR MAIN CHARACTER HAVING THE RED HOODY ON. THIS AGAIN REFERS BACK TO THE TRAILER WHICH GIVES THE CONTINUITY.

TO CONCLUDE

• I think that our combination of the trailer and ancillary tasks are very effective mainly down to the fact of continuity. As the audience intends to always remember either the character in the trailer or certain colours this mean’t that repeating these in the ancillary task allowed the audience to relate straight away to the trailer.
