• Independent evaluation• Collaborators from 3 universities • 15 NC schools and 5 youth

community sites • 45 physical education instructors

and after school program administrators

• More than 8,000 NC youth

Be Active Evaluation Project

Teachers and students agree that HOPS supported PE gives greater opportunity to observe, imitate and practice new skills like dancing

direct measures• Students were 55% more active during a HOPSports

supported class than during traditional P.E. (independently supported by observation)

• Over the course of a school year, that translates to an extra 12.6 hours of MVPA!

In traditional P.E., boys are significantly more active than girls

When Be Active HOPS is introduced, all students significantly

increased MVPA

Be Active HOPS had a greater effect on girls, bringing them up to the same level as boys

• Though 52% of these instructors rarely or never used technology in P.E., there was a significant increase in confidence after using HOPS in the classroom

• All teachers were satisfied with technical support

• 67% actively endorsed the product with phrases like “awesome” and “incredible time on task”

• 24% actively commented on kids enjoyment level with comments like, “students ask to do more” and “students enjoy the modules”
