Principal’s Report

Student Progress Reports Two pieces of information will be available for parents shortly showing the progress of their child over the past months. The first is NAPLAN data and the second is interim reports.

NAPLAN was undertaken by Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students earlier this year. The results have now been compiled and are being distributed. The information has been mailed to parents and you should receive it either today or tomorrow. I ask that you read the information with your child beside you and discuss the areas of strength and areas that may be requiring more focus. There are some very good individual results across the College. Regardless of the overall levels, stu-dents can feel pleased if they put effort and endeavour into completing the tests to the best of their ability. If you have any questions or if you would like to discuss the results further, feel free to contact the school and make an appointment with the teachers. We have received the school-wide results which we will be using to plan our teaching and learn-ing programs now and into the future. It is valuable information which assists us greatly to teaching and learning as well as for curriculum development.

The second information is interim reports. These reports provide information for you on areas such as attitude, effort and behaviour. Each of the areas is rated on a five-point scale, ranging from excellent to needs attention. These reports are designed as an update and provide you with information around important areas which impact on learning. If you have any concerns after reading the interim report and discussing it with your child, then please give the school a ring to arrange an interview with the appropriate teacher or the Year Level Coordinator.

Primary School Sports All the best to the three students going to Horsham next week to compete in the Little Desert Athletics carnival. Cody Frankel, Brock Hinckley and Jason Box have progressed through to the next level of competition. Heidi Gilmour and Zack Carter also qualified but they will be away at Somers camp when the athletics are on. Congratulations to all who participated in athletics at Rainbow last week and best wishes to those moving on to the next level of competition.

Sharp Shooter Congratulations, Jobe on your wonderful performance in the clay target shooting earlier this week. It was a superb effort to come mid-field in a state-wide competition involving 30 shooters in your age group. Well done.

Kinder visit I walked into the Prep classroom on Tuesday to be greeted by lots of scary monsters!! The kind-er children had arrived. The children joined with our students to make masks which they then proudly displayed for a group photo. All of the children then joined together to enjoy a fruit platter and a well-earned run and play in the play grounds. This is the first of the kinder visits for this year and will be followed up with further visits later in the year.

Camps We have a keen group of campers heading off to the highly regarded and well-renowned Somers Camp next week. We all hope you have a wonderful time at the camp. We also have a group of Year 10 students heading off to the snow fields next week. We hope you all enjoy the skiing.

Grounds Development The watering system for the front of the school is back on the agenda again. Trucks will be in the school grounds tomorrow to bring in some top soil. The work is scheduled for tomorrow, commencing at around 7am. The bus loop will be closed in the morning and set-down and pick-up will be in Dodgshun Street near the school crossing.

Sports Report – From Mr Robins Clay Target Shooting In recent weeks, some of our students have attended clay target shooting events around the state. Flynn Grace, Ben McGee and Jobe Landrigan competed in the Region shoot in Kerang. Jobe was able to finish second in the junior division shooting 15/20. Jobe then progressed onto the State shoot in Echuca this week, which is a fantastic achievement. Jobe shot 15/30 overall. Congratulations Jobe! SML Cluster Athletics (Rainbow) Last Friday saw our Primary students participate in the cluster athletics at Rainbow.
