Community Playhouse sets annual Honky TonkReady for a ‘Vacation’?2 The Derrick./The News-Herald: Friday, February 8, 2019

Practicing a scene titled “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot” for Community Playhouse’s Honky Tonk show “Vacation” are Dave Heath, Pam Watkins, Jeff Shotts and Joe Gerzina.

Joyce Dittman, Jenn Jack and Mary Ann Bussard practice a tap routine to “Surfin’ USA” with other cast members from Community Playhouse’s Honky Tonk show, “Vacation.”

Community Playhouse will provide a solution for those suffering from “cabin fever” with its annual Honky Tonk show, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16, at the Oil City Moose Lodge along Halyday Run Road.

The show, “Vacation,” is the troupe’s first show of the 2019 theater season.

“Vacation” is packed with lively musi-cal numbers interspersed between dia-logue that tells the story of five members of the Grisold family trying to choose the location for a perfect family vacation.

With a cast of 30 members, “Vacation” is destined to be one of the largest pro-ductions in Honky Tonk history.

Judy Millar and Donna Tarleton, a sister duo, are authors and directors of the show. The two also perform in the show, playing persistent travel agents who help the Griswold family make their vacation plans.

Members of the Community Playhouse board of directors fill the various roles of producer.

The cast also includes Joe Gerzina, who plays the Griswold father; Pam Watkins, who plays the Griswold moth-er; and Raquel Myers and Hannah Plowman, who are the Griswold chil-dren. Dan Kayler plays the uncle and Mike Eichholtz will portray Captain Oblivious.

About the show:The Griswolds explore a variety of

vacation sites via the travel agents’ com-puterized options and larger-than-life on-screen scenery which can be viewed by the audience.

The choices are tantalizing: enticing pictures of lofty mountains, wilderness campsites, thrilling theme parks, luxuri-ous casinos and sunny, sandy beaches beckon the family to “Badda Book Badda Boom” with them.

There is just one glitch — getting the five Grisold family members to all agree on one vacation site.

The sudden appearance of a born-to-be-wild woman (played by Jennifer Wellington) adds a surprise twist to the plot.

Accompanying each vacation option photo, the cast will entertain the audience with dazzling dance routines and popular, familiar musical selections that tie in with each vacation location. Holiday Road, Rocky Mountain High, Hello MuddahHello Faddah, It’s A Small World, Luck Be a Lady, Thriller, Surfin USA, Born to be Wild, and Time of My Life are just a few examples of the many songs that will entertain “Vacation” audiences.

Comedy-laced riddles will add a huge dose of laughter to this already fun show. In some scenes, the audience will be invited to participate and sing along with the cast.

Additional cast members of “Vacation” include Jim Ahrens, Tracy Brown, Mary Jane Bussard, Gary Dittman, Joyce Dittman, Deb Hardy, Dave Heath, Jeannine Guth, Trina Hess, Jenny Jack, Kathy Kahle, Doug Kennedy, Deb Letke, Nathaniel Licht, James McDonald, James McGinnis, Will Price, Noelle Razeman, Tammy Schwab, Jeff Shotts, Jeff Smith and Joe Thompson.

Tickets for the show, to be held Feb. 15-16, will cost $12.

Those who wish to have dinner before the show will pay $22. The dinner will be served from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. Advance reservations are needed for those who opt for the meal.

Reservations may be made by calling 677-7469. Those who call should leave their name, telephone number, which night they wish to see the show, the num-ber of tickets that are needed and wheth-er those tickets include the meal. Someone will return calls to confirm the reserva-tions.

Dinner reservations must be made by Monday, Feb. 11.

The Moose lodge is located at 541 Halyday Run Road, Oil City.

A travel agent played by Jennifer Wellington tries to convince mem-bers of the Griswold family to choose a vacation spot in this scene from Community Playhouse’s production of “Vacation.” Cast as the Griswold family are Joe Gerzina (father), Raquel Myers (daughter) and Pam Watkins (mother).

The fourth annual Nature Art Showcase and Sale is open to the public today and Saturday in the lobby of the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin.

It is situated directly across Liberty Street from Fountain Park featuring ice carvings as part of the weekend-long “Franklin On Ice” festival.

Folk singer and guitarist Daniel Stockwell will per-form during a reception tonight.

The Nature Art Showcase and Sale reopens on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
