Lots of space, a house in good condition, big garden with huge potential,

private sea front and own plot by the sea

Here you will have a 2801 m2 plot to enjoy, with a two-storey house with 218 m2 living space. The property was originally part of a larger farm many years ago, but there is no farming currently. The house itself was built in 1969 and has been continually renovated and maintained.

The property is beautifully situated where the mountains meet the sea, in the middle of the magnificent scenery we all associate with Western Norway. It boasts great views towards the fjord with great natural light.

Your water comes from an underground spring through your private well – and it really is the most delicious water nature has on offer! It is untouched, pure and clean.

A separate plot has already been prepared by your 20m long private stretch of sea front. Everything is in place should you wish to build your own boathouse.

Aerial view of the plot. Please note that this picture was taken prior to the plot by the sea and the road leading down to it was made.

If you enjoy exploring nature, you have found a great spot, with many gorgeous hikes and mountains in the surrounding area. The tallest (and most breathtaking) mountain in Selje, “Høgehornet” (The tall horn), 774 metres above sea level, is just across the road.

If you decide to go fishing, you can easily catch mackerel, herring, pollock, cod, and other delicious types of fish. We will of course let you in on the best kept secret fishing spots! Come autumn, you can look forward to big dinners with your friends, gathered in the kitchen around big pots of freshly cooked crab. During crab season you can catch your own, and if you are really lucky, you might even find a lobster or two in your pots!

The seasons change markedly in Selje: in spring you wake up to birdsong as the snow begins to melt away, in summer you can smell newly mown grass and the ripe strawberries, in autumn the air is crisp and clear and the beautiful evening light makes the yellowing leaves glow warm, and in winter you look out at the falling snow as the wind is howling.

Last but not least; here you will find great neighbours! On both sides of the property you are blessed with helpful, friendly and local families.

Cross the road and start hiking up the tallest mountain in the municipality,

take the boat out and catch your own dinner, have a cup of coffee with friendly neighbours, Enjoy the peace, quiet and safe surroundings

Lots of space to grow your own vegetables, fruit, berries, flowers or keep chickens for that matter.

The garden is big and has plenty potential. A few years back the garden was regularly visited by gardening clubs. It has become slightly overgrown by now, but offers the keen gardener more than enough space to make it something truly special. The strawberry field still blooms!

Potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, cabbage, apples, pears, strawberries and raspberries have all been grown and enjoyed by previous owners. Should you wish to grow your own organic produce, the land is very well suited to do so.

About Selje

Selje is on the very western tip of Norway, with Cape West (Vestkapp) as part of its municipality. The breathtaking nature and scenery here is typical of what one would associate with Western Norway; here, you can find anything from snowy mountains to white beaches. Selje is beautifully situated where the fjords meet the sea, and the sea on our doorstep is “Stadhavet” – considered to be one of the roughest seas along the Norwegian coast.

The municipality covers an area of 220 km2, and has approx 2800 inhabitants.

Alongside the primary industries of agriculture and fishing, a more modern business community has developed with both service- and manufacturing industries. Selje has the biggest fishing float in the county and a very well known leisure-boat manufacturer.

Selje is very well suited for families with children, with a kindergarten, primary- and secondary schools, a public library, local doctors office and several sports facilities. In the town centre there are coffee shops, grocery stores, a petrol station, a bank, a hotel/spa, public sector offices, a nursing home, a retirement home and a church.

The Selje beach is nicely located in a bay, which stops big waves from coming in from the open sea. 22

Feel peaceful in nature

Hiking around the mountains of western Norway is a very popular activity among locals and visitors alike.

There is great hiking in Selje, with many marked paths and different routes to take. This property is pretty much on the base of the tallest mountain in the municipality, “Høgehornet” (The Tall Horn”), 774 metres above sea level. On your hike up the mountain you can take a break by a lake and try your luck at fishing for lunch. If you’re lucky, you can also spot wildlife such as deer, foxes, grouse or eagles.

To go hiking on the Stadlandet peninsula is a special experience – you get to explore nature against the spectacular backdrop that is the ocean.

Diving, boat trips, fishing in the mountains and fishing at sea

For those who prefer to stay closer to sea level, there are of course other activities than hiking one might enjoy.

Boat trips and fishing are great leisure activities – and nothing beats the taste of a dinner you’ve caught yourself! If you go fishing in the mountains you’ll find lakes and rivers with trout, if you’d rather get your boat out you can catch mackerel, herring, cod, pollock, catfish, haddock, ling, redfish and other delicacies. Keep an eye out for changing weather, you don’t want to be out at sea if a storm blows up!

And if you prefer sports to fishing, you can make use of an astroturf soccer pitch or the 9-hole golf course in the town centre.

If you would rather be in the water that on it, the area around Stadt is great for diving, and you can find under water caves as well as old ship wrecks. While you’re down there, you could get lucky and find scallops for dinner as well.

This lovely, big cod was caught on a family fishing trips a couple of years back. It was delicious! 26

Page 27: HOME/HOLIDAY HOME WITH A PRIVATE PLOT BY THE SEA IN IDYLLIC WESTERN NORWAY

There are several beautiful beaches in the area. As well as the 600 metre long beach in Selje town centre, the Hoddevik- and Ervik beaches in Stadt, about half an hour away, are very popular on warm and sunny summer days.

Over the last few years, surfing has become an increasingly popular sport in Stadt, with the beaches there considered to be some of the best in the country. In contrast to more well-known surf-spots in hotter climates, here you can pull your wetsuit on and go surfing among snowy shores in winter-time!

The safest beach for surfing is the stunning Ervik beach. Here you’ll find an exposed beach that gets its swell from the south-west to the north-west. When the waves are coming in from the west, Hoddevik is your best bet – it is very well suited for surfing under extreme weather conditions due to the tall mountains that shield it from the brunt of the winds. As well as taking classes, you can rent equipment from the local surf-camp, have a look at: http://www.stadsurfing.com/

To and from Selje

Selje lies the furthest to the west in Nordfjord, and the closest airports are found in Sandane (1,5 hour drive), Oersta (2 hour drive), or Floroe (2,5 hour drive). A flight to Bergen is about 45 minutes, one to Oslo takes about 1 hour.

It would take about 3 hours to drive here south from Aalesund, or 5 hours north from Bergen. From Oslo, it would take around 8 hours to drive.

If you do get the chance to do so, get the express boat from Bergen to Selje – a route with many beautiful sights to be seen along the ragged western coast of Norway. The boat departs twice daily and takes a little less than 5 hours one way.

As far west as you can get in Norway is where you’ll find Selje.

30

Page 31: HOME/HOLIDAY HOME WITH A PRIVATE PLOT BY THE SEA IN IDYLLIC WESTERN NORWAY

The large fjord in this photo is Nordfjord.

The peninsula Stadlandet in the municipality of Selje is also known as “the sea-facing fist”. 31

Page 32: HOME/HOLIDAY HOME WITH A PRIVATE PLOT BY THE SEA IN IDYLLIC WESTERN NORWAY

Activities in Nordfjord

Whilst Selje is to the far west of Nordfjord, Vaagsoy municipality is on the southern shores of the fjord. The municipal centre of Maaloy is one of the ports the “Hurtigruta”, a large cruiser that takes you from the very south to the very north of Norway along the coast. Here you can also find Refvik beach, which has been awarded the prize for Norway’s nicest beach.

Kraakenes Lighthouse has been renovated to a cafe and guesthouse, and is a very popular destination for newlyweds on their honeymoon. Here you are very close to the ocean, and the experience of watching the sea wash over the roof of the lighthouse is truly spectacular.

In the middle of Nordfjord you find Nordfjordeid (Eid), which in many ways is seen to be the central town in Nordfjord. This is where the best cultural life in the region is to be found, as Eid is known nation-wide both for its Opera, and Malakoff, an annual music festival which is held every August, and growing in popularity every year. The Eid river is well known for salmon fishing, and the ski slopes in Harpefossen attracts many locals in winter.

Stryn is the town at the eastern end of Nordfjord. The most famous part of the Jostedal Glacier, the biggest glacier in Norway, has an arm in Stryn called the Briksdal Glacier. Walking on the glacier is a popular activity here. Stryn stretches into the mountains on the way towards Oslo, so the mountains here are tall and skiing is great. A summer ski centre is open all year, weather permitting, allowing you to go skiing in the morning and tanning on the beach in the afternoon.

It’s also a great spot to plan your trip to the Geirangerfjord. Norway’s most visited fjord which is also on the UNESCO world heritage list.
