Masterpiece London continues to attract the 'best of the best' from around the world atthe inaugural Fair from 24-29 June 2010. This innovative event boasts some of themost illustrious names in the industry, providing a unique fusion of old and new, withtraditional fine art and antiques juxtaposed with more contemporary works of art andpremium collectors, items. Joining A La Vieille Russie, MacConnal-Mason, Marchant,SJ Phillips, Peter Finer and the Tomasso Brothers, Masterpiece announce further newparticipants: Anthony Woodburn, Cahn International, Offer Waterman, Galerie Steinitz,Vanderven & Vanderven and Wartski. Amongst these names will be the establishedfounders Mallett, Ronald Phillips, Apter-Fredericks and Asprey as Masterpiece Londonseeks to showcase some of the greatest works on a scale not seen in the capitalsince the Great Exhibition of 1851. Re-affirming the capital's credentials as a leadingartistic and cultural hub, Masterpiece London exhibitors will offer for sale works byleading international names, including Fabergé, Lalique and Cartier to name but a few.
Amongst the highlight pieces at Masterpiece London, will be an exceptional collectionof Imperial Fabergé from Wartski, the leading art and antique dealers, specialising infine jewellery since 1865. Visitors will be enthralled by an Imperial nephrite andenamelled gold dish and stunning Imperial gem-set and enamelled gold bellpush, bothonce owned by Dowager Tsarina Maria Feodorovna and Grand Duchess XeniaAlexandrovna, respectively. Sparkling alongside these Fabergé treasures, enthusiastswill be captivated by the brilliance of Epoque Fine Jewels, offering. Representing thevery finest in Art Nouveau, Garland Style and Art Deco jewellery, their collection willinclude a René Lalique gold, diamond and enamel dog collar plaque, a platinum,turquoise and diamond 'collier de chien' by Cartier and an impressive RenaissanceRevival rock crystal, ruby and diamond 'devant de corsage' brooch by Jean ValentinMorel, depicting the Greek goddess Hera. Elsewhere, a magnificent monumentalRoman sculpture of the torso of Dionysos from an outstanding collection by CahnInternational, is anticipated to attract widespread interest. Equally majestic, is abeautifully-ornate pair of late 15th Century kneeling angels from Richard Philp.
This exquisitely gilded celestial pair is expected to sell for an impressive £35,000.Demonstrating the unrivalled diversity of Masterpiece London, visitors can enjoy someof the most alluring examples of Oriental and Asian Art alongside exceptionalofferings in the fields of modern and contemporary design. In terms of the former,Gregg Baker Asian Art will be showcasing an extensive collection of antiqueJapanese paper screens including an Edo Period 17th Century depiction of the battleof Ichinotani, a surprise attack mounted by the Minamoto in the spring of 1184 againstthe Taira clan.
From the contemporary art sector, the highly-renowned Sims Reed Gallery will beexhibiting a number of original modern master graphics by European, American andBritish Artists, including works by Lichtenstein , Damien Hirst , Hockney , Matisseand Picasso.
