East Penn is committed to implementing thehighest environmental standards labeling thisseventy-year plus tradition its “EnvironmentalProtection Program.” Through state-of-the-artrecycling facilities and a companywide dedicationto environmental health and safety, the companyhas made safe recycling and environmental stewardship an everyday practice.

The company’s lead smelter and refinery is amodel for the industry recycling virtually 100% of every used lead-acid battery componentbrought to its facility. East Penn built the batteryindustry’s first acid reclamation plant, avoidingpotentially hazardous acid disposal.

The company also treatsand reuses wastewaterfrom its manufacturingplants in two modernWastewater Distillation andTreatment Plants reducing theuse of precious groundwater byover 100,000 gallons per day. Companywide sus-tainability initiatives spread throughout its facilitiessuch as collections to recycle paper, cardboard,plastic, used aluminum cans, and glass bottles.

East Penn was one of the first in the nation to install a scrubber unit, which eliminates sulfurdioxide emissions. The company continually monitors the ambient emissions around its plant site, which continues to decline even with a steady increase in production.

The company’s modern facilities as well as long-standing “green” culture has made East Penn themost environmentally conscious and proactive battery manufacturer and recycler in the world.

East Penn’s large, modern truck, trailer and van fleet is on the roadcontinually, keeping distributor and retailer stocks available when andwhere merchandise is needed. A fully equipped maintenance garagekeeps the fleet rolling around the clock.
