1. GENERAL

The new software V4.0.x is released with the following main features:

D New AUX--Panel Layout for RPS35--2/3 panel types.

D Support of ’progressive’ and ’segmented frame’ video standards (except of1280x720_50p) for XtenDD HD

D New function ’Video in Border’ and ’V--Fade via Video’ added.Available with the new Input Processor Board RY 3442 only.

D XtenDD (SD&HD):PP--Stage can be extended up to 6 internal DSKs in HD (8 internal DSKs inXtenDD) with full feature set for Switchers with 2 or 3 levels!

TheDVx1/2 orMPR1/2 andStore1/VidStore keys provide two different functions.The function of the key depends on the available hardware in the mainframe.

DVx1/MPR1means that the key delegates either to DVxChannel 1 or toMontProc1, depending on what is installed. Since these options exclude each other, no con-flicts can be caused.

The same applies to Store1/VidStore: Stores1--6 are only available with the newcrossbar, Video Store is only available at the DD35.

Note:

The keys assigned to Spec MEx, are UPKs. In this case, the Default functionof the key is indicated. The Mask/Spec-Bus keys can be assigned to2nd/3rd/4th AUX in order to reach the Shift Levels in case of very old AUXCPs, which are not provided with the additional keys around ExtAux.Normally, only SpecPP is assigned to Aux-2nd, since the 3rd and 4th Levelsare only required at the XtenDD which is only supplied with newer panels.

With the software release V4.0.x the new features ’Video in Border’ and ’V--Fadevia Video’ are added.This new features are available with new Input Processor BoardRY3442 only! Thevideo source can be selected with the “Spec Bus”.

With the software release V4.0.x the new feature for the Black Preset mode ’V--Fade via Video’ is added. This new feature is available with new Input ProcessorBoard RY3442 only!

Select the M/E Main menu. By clicking the V--Fade via a dialog appears with theparametersBlack /White / Spec Bus. The video source can be selected by click-ing Spec Bus in the same field.

2.4 DSK EXTENSION

2.4.1 GENERAL

In the complete XtenDD family (SD and HD), new functionality is available fromsoftware version 4.0.1 onwards. The so--called 6 (or 8) DSK option is available forall mainframe types being equipped with less than 4M/Es and provided that plugpositions are free for further M/Es. By adding an M/E board, this additional M/E isconnected by release of the option in such a way that it provides only 3 (or 4) addi-tional keyers, which are always connected after the 3 (or 4) keyers of the PP stage.

PGM/PST fades are not possible on this M/E and cannot be called in any way.

The license 6(8) DSK can already be entered into the mainframes. As all the otheroptions, it is alsopassedon to thepanels. It is anadditional licenseandcan theoret-ically be available in all rack types.

2.4.2 GUI AND CONTROL PANEL CONTROL

Aswitcherwith 6(8)DSKoption keeps the original switcher type, also from the viewof the user. In the MF, it is automatically ensured that M/E Timing and TiM/EMemoand Command/Macros behave correctly.

In the Sidepanel menu (GUI), the additional Transi, Key, Wipe, ... as well as Installand Config menus are released for the additional logic M/E (without changing themenuname). Thus it is also possible to route the additional keyers for instancealsovia the DVE (DVx) or to indicate the key sources at the UMDs.

This additional logic M/E (at the 4 RU--Mainframes it is the M/E3) is generally pre-served in its M/E3 context with all its consequences in the complete system!

For a user of this option in the XtenDD, this will be as follows:

D If he selects any bus on the PP stage, he will get a maximum of 4 keyers only(those of the original PP stage). If he selects the M/E3, he will see all 8DSKs.

D If he wants to adjust the fifth DSK in the SP, he has to enter the M/E3--Key1menu (the XtenDD has 4 Keyer/ME).At the DD35 this would be the PP--Key2 (due to ME--hardware--swap and 3Keyer/ME).

D At the XtenDD, the video outputs have to be cabled according to the logicM/Es(PP outputs have 4 keyers, M/E3 outputs have 8 keyers).

D The auto delegation CP <--> SP has also to be preserved accordingly, evenwhen considering the CP--Keyer delegation.

In the transition range, it becomes especially obvious to the user that these are twoM/Es connected in series. Thus, e.g. the functions KeyOver, Clean Taps andCom-bined Key Flyers etc. are only effective within their physical M/Es!

2.6 USING THE KEY BUS AS PGM / PST EXTENSION

With the software release V4.0.x the PBM and PST buses can be delegated to theKey bus button row. For example, in this case the 1st level of the video sources canbe selected in the original button row and the 2nd level in the Key button row.

To do so, please use the UPK funktionality of the X--Bar / T--Mem button.Select the Install / Panel / UPKmenu and modify the respective UPK (see menuexample below).

2.7 HIDDEN SOURCE BLINKING

With the software release V4.0.x the functionality “Hidden Source Blinking” is re-leasedas personality setting. If “HiddenSourceBlinking” is activated, selectedbut-tons in the bus rows will be marked by short--time flashing, when another sourcelevel (2nd or 3rd) is selected.

To do so, please use the personal setting by selecting the Personality / Panelmenu (see menu example below).

2.8 FLEXIBLE LICENSING

A flexible license permits the user to use a defined resource of a certain type (e.g.Chromakey). Contrary to a static license, it is, however, not definedwhich resourceis concerned. That means, the user can decide in which M/E and at what place hewants to use this resource. So the user acquires with the flexible License a flexibleresource which can be used at a self--defined place in the system.

For instance, a FlexibleChromaKey Resource can be assigned to a ChromaKey”ME1_ KEY1”. Thus, ME1_KEY1 can be used as ChromaKey. When now assign-ing theFlexibleChromaKeyResource toME2_KEY2, this keycanbeusedasChro-maKey, simultaneously, ME1_KEY1 is no longer available as ChromaKey.Which flexible resources are allocated is defined by the application data. Whenloadinganapplication, the resources requiredby theapplication, are thenallocatedto the application.

2.11 RAM RECORDER FILE TRANSFER

With the software release V4.0.x, the new feature ”RAM Recorder File Transfer”is released. ”RAM Recorder File Transfer” is a software option and has to be pur-chased separately. License needed!The new function enables to store video clips stored in the RAM Recorder or tostore (Export) individual frameson the harddisk of theSidepanel PCor anyPCwithSidepanel program in the network and also to load them again (Import).Doing so, the clip/frames are stored into a file with the extension .XTENDD.

Note: This feature is only released for XtenDD switchers!

2.11.1 PRECONDITIONS

After having entered the Software License Key, a new submenuRAMRecTransferis available in the Media Player menu.

For storing the video clip, a folderRamRec in thedirectoryc:\Programs\dd35\hasto be created manually on the harddisk of the Sidepanel PC.

The stored data is indicated in theRAMRec Transfermenu (see the figure below).Beside the file name, also the length of the clip and the picture format is indicated.

Export of a video clip stored in the RAM Recorder can be performed as follows:

D Selection of the Clip Channel in the RAM Status menu:

D Define the sequence length to be stored, using Grab Mark In and Grab MarkOut or click on the value and enter manually.

D Call the RAM Rec Transfer menu and choose the selected Export SourceChannel.

D Having pressed Start Export, the keypad is displayed for entering the filename.

D Enter the file name and press Enter. The video clip is stored in the directoryc:\Programs\dd35\RamRec and is now shown in the file list of the menu.

The name of the exit file has to be entered in a dialog box. The file extension isadded automatically depending on destination pixel format.In general, the entered file namewill be enlarged with a three--digit number to gen-erate different file names if a sequence will be converted to single images.

If AVI as target format is selected, a Codec dialog window appears. Select on ofthe listed Codec and close the dialog with OK

Note: If the dialog is canceled, an empty file will be generated!

2.13 NETWORK PING PROGRAM

The NetCheck program is provided as a simple tool to check the basic integrity ofan IPNetwork. Itsmain target are theXtenDDswitcher networks.Connectionprob-lems between the switcher components (E--Box, Control Panel, Side Panel) areoften caused by faulty cabling (e.g. using 75 Ohm cables, connectors or termina-tors instead of 50 Ohm components). However, with the currently available tools,it is difficult to isolate the problems to hardware or software, because the symptomscaused by bad cabling can be hard to recognize. Especially, if a faulty cabling stillprovides a ”half--working” network (i.e. some degree of packet loss occurs), the ef-fect will on the first look often point towards software problems.NetCheck should be used whenever ”strange” problems occur to rule out networkfaults.

2.13.1 USING NETCHECK

NetCheck is started by double--clicking the program icon or using the Startmenu.On startup, it will display an error message if it cannot access the network system.This canbedue to several reasons. Twoof themare listed in the Installation sectionabove. If another error message appears, you need to check the network installa-tion of the Windows system.

The program window looks like this:

The first action you will need to do is to start a network scan to get a list of availablehosts on the network. To do this, simply press theScan button. Optionally, you canlimit the IP address range to be scanned before starting the scan by either enteringthe first and last IP address to be scanned using the keyboard or by adjusting thesevalues with the arrow keys to the right of the input fields.

The scanprocedure takes up to about 8 seconds, depending on the range selectedand the response time of the other devices on the network. If some of the devicesdo not appear in the list as expected, you can just press the Scan button again tore--scan the network. If a device doesn’t show up after repeated scanning, thismeans that it doesn’t answer pings, so there is either a network problem, or the de-vice itself is down.

After you have filled the list with the devices that you want to test, the window willlook like this:

To start pinging these devices, simply press the button labeledStart Pinging. Thiswill continuously send 32 byte ping request packets to all devices once a seconduntil you press the same button again (which is now labeled Stop Pinging). Whilepinging, the statistics in the device list will be constantly updated.

The column pings sent shows the number of ping packets sent to the device sofar.The column pongs rcvd shows the number of answers received from the device.

The packet loss column shows the percentage of packets lost. It can intermittedlygo up and down, because at the time of the update, a ping packet might have justbeen sent, while the answer has not returned yet. The value should go back to 0as soon as you stop the pinging.

The avg rtt column shows the average round trip time measured for this device,i.e. the average timespan between the sending of a ping and the receipt of the cor-responding pong.You can sort the device list by clicking the header of the column that you want touse as the sort criterion.

The button Reset Stats can be used to reset all statistics to 0.

The buttonsRemoveSelected andRemoveAll can be used to remove unwanteddevices from the list. To get them back, you will have to do another scan. To selectsingle devices for removal, click them in the device list. To select multiple devicesat once, you can hold down the CTRL key on the keyboard while clicking on thedevices.You can also ping only selected devices in the list by selecting them and switchingto Ping selected hosts.The pinging frequency can be adjusted by changing thePingDelay value. The de-fault is 1000 milliseconds, i.e. each device is pinged once a second.

ThePacket Sizeof the ping packets can be varied in a range between 32 and 1024bytes. Default is 32 bytes.The text area in the lower part of thewindow is used to printmessageswhen a scanis done and whenever a answer is received. This information is usually not impor-tant.

Use the Close button to exit the program

2.14 SOFT PATCH PANEL

In theXtenDD /DD35 software there are several possibilities to select a video inputsignal via an assignment. Each of these implementations pursues a particular pur-pose.

2.14.1 CP--INPUT BUTTON ASSIGNMENT

Assignment of the video inputs to any buttons according to the requirements of theuser.Application: the user wants to sort the sources in such a way onto the buttons thatcontrol is facilitated. Thus, the order of the keys does not correspond any longerto the order of the physical inputs.

2.14.2 VIRTUAL INPUTS

Real inputs with different settings e.g. input correction.

2.14.3 COUPLING OF BUSES VIA SUBSTITUTION TABLES(AUX--COUPLE, M/E--COUPLE)

When changing the source at a bus, the source of a coupled bus follows up accord-ingly to an assignment table (SubsTab).

AUX--Couple:Coupling is also effective over the TiM/EMemo; coupling of the buses can be con-figured with individual Subs Tabs over as many levels as you like.

Application: e.g. simple second--userapplicationbycouplinganAUXBus toaPGMBus.

M/E--Couple:Coupling is made on command level and is ineffective at TiM/E--Memo Recalls.The basic setting of the coupledM/Es is made via TiM/E--MemoRecalls. Incomingcommands are passed on from a Master M/E to the Slave M/E, realizing the inputcoupling via SubsTabs.

2.14.4 SIMULCAST VIA SUBSTITUTIONS--TABLES

Serves for parallel control of two mainframes of different type (e.g. HD & SD). Inthis case, the panel always sends its commands to both mainframes. The sourceselection command enables to use a Substitution Table in the mainframe.

2.14.5 SOFT PATCH PANEL

The SoftPatchPanel enables to exchange applications between XtenDD switcherinstallations the (video) cabling of which is unequal -- without the need of perform-ing adaptations in the programmed effects. In a separate allocation unit -- not beinginfluenced by the automation (marked gray in the figure below) -- video inputs andoutputs can be assigned.

2.15 TIPS AND TRICKS FOR DVX OPERATION

1. When you reduce the size of a channel with an added border, you will find theborder switching on/off randomly when the image size approaches zero. Thisis caused by rounding errors when the border size is near to one pixel.

Solution:Use border width ”0” for the keyframewith size ”0”, and/or use border softnessfor the keyframe with size ”0”.

2. The adaptive filtering to avoid moire--effects does not work for a resulting z--value smaller than zero. (Resulting z--value means the sum of the 3D--locatez--value and the 3D--global z--value)

Solution:Use the 3D--locate z--value to reduce the size of the image, and NOT the 2D--Source size value.

3. Thecombiner tally calculation switches the tally off for channelswhicharecom-pletely covered by another channel. In the actual software there are some limi-tations to it:

D The calculation is always done based on z--priority, no matter whether theaccording channel is set to fixed priority or not.

D A possible z--offset is not taken into consideration for the tally calculation.

D Since the actual software does not yet support softness for intersecting im-ages, in case two channels have identical z--values and rotation values(both images should be visible simultaneously), the lower channel numberis visible. Due to rounding errors the covered channel is tallied as well, de-pending of the actual z--value.

Solution:Increase the z--value of the covered channel by 0.001. This change is invisible,but it fixes the tally problem.

D When using pageturn effects, the channels are tallied, even when the pa-geturn is paged out.

Solution:Set 3D--Locate x--value to e.g. ”10.0” in the ”paged out” keyframe, and set thetrajectory for the 3D--Locate x--value of the PREVIOUS keyframe to ”jump”.
