SMALL GROUP NEWS

Holy Martyrs Small Group Pilots are underway and enjoy-

ing our weekly gatherings. The discussions are enlight-

ening, affirming, and relevant to life in 2016. We pray

for each other’s needs, hear a relevant message and

discuss the implications in our daily lives as Catholics,

striving to become holier. We look forward to growing

this ministry and forming more small groups in the fall.

Please pray for this ministry as we work to offer some-

thing meaningful, relevant, and uplifting to our Parish

family. If this ministry interests you, please contact

Nancy Fiamingo, Pastoral Associate:

[email protected] or call 330-722-6633.

The PRAYER SHAWL GROUP

of Holy Martyrs has beautiful prayer

shawls available for anyone who might

derive comfort from a shawl. These have been made with

prayers for their comfort and healing. We want to reach

out to those people in their time of need (loss of family

member, going through cancer treatment, divorce, ex-

tended illness, etc.). If you know of such a person, male

or female, please contact Nancy Mayes, 330-764-3161 to

obtain one of the shawls.

EMPLOYMENT NETWORK GROUP

If you are an executive, professional or manager who is

looking for employment opportunities, we encourage

you to connect with our Employment Network Group.

This parish networking group meets twice a month at

the following locations:

First Wednesday of each month at Holy Martyrs

Church, Martyrs Hall (off the back parking lot)

Third Tuesday of each month at Knights of

Columbus Hall – 131 North East Street, Medina

First-time attendees should plan to come to a short

orientation session at 6:30 p.m. The regular group

meetings begin at 7:00 p.m.

For more information about the Employment

Network Group, please contact Erin Rankin at

[email protected].

An Invitation

In less than a month our choir will

resume rehearsals and singing weekly

at the 9:30am Mass. Have you ever con-

sidered becoming a member of our

choir, or could you share your musical

talent as a song leader or instrumentalist at any of the

weekend Masses? We are looking for new (and returning)

singers and instrumentalists to participate in and en-

hance our music ministry. Prior musical experience is a

plus but is not a requirement. All that is needed is a de-

sire to learn and an enthusiasm to elevate our communal

prayer at Mass through music. The choir will be hosting

a picnic at the pavilion on the parish grounds on Sun-

day, August 28 from 1:00-3:00 pm. All current and for-

mer choir members, as well as those interested in

joining the choir are invited to attend. For more infor-

mation feel free to contact our Music Director, Jason

Falkofsky at 216-548-4898 or [email protected].

Catholic Schools are communities of

faith, knowledge and service. Catho-

lic Schools exists to form young

people in the Catholic faith. Aca-

demic success and rigorous achievement mark our

schools as outstanding institutions. Essential to the

Christian message is the command of Christ to serve

others. Our students are at their best when they exem-

plify in their actions this command, and they do so daily.

Students, their parents, grandparents and other family

members sacrifice to provide a Catholic education and

are grateful for tuition assistance provided through the

Faith and Values Appeal for Education. Please pray

that the generosity of our parishioners next weekend

will continue to support the formation of our youth in

Catholic schools as they are taught to be the very best

that they can be.

The Ministry of Assistance of Holy

Martyrs would like to thank our

parishioners for their generous sup-

port of this year's School Supply

Drive for the needy students of

Medina and Highland school districts. With your financial

and material contributions, we were able to help approxi-

mately 900 students, in 14 schools of the elementary,

middle and high schools who qualify for the free and

reduced price school meals under the federal program.

Because of you these students will start the year in a con-

fident and positive way!

For families who will have a child preparing for the

sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist in 2016/17;

the preparation time for these sacraments begins in

the first grade. We would like to be able to provide an

opportunity for all our children to have a spot held

for them. Parents are asked to

(PSR office) to register if you haven't

received our online registration email.

If You Build It, They Will Thrive….Spiritually

Suggestion 2.

Remind our children that everyone’s happiness goes up when each person in the family does the

loving thing.

Example: “There’s your brother/sister walking home from school. Let’s go meet him and give him a

hug.” A child feels empowered when they understand that they co-create the field of love.

Assumption of Mary

Our bodies are meant for

immortality. That’s what we

believe when we profess in

the Creed “We believe in…

the resurrection of the body

and life everlasting.” Mary

already shares in the resur-

rection of her Son and Our

Lord Jesus as we will, too,

at the end of the world. Our

bodies are temples of the

Holy Spirit and should be

cared for and treated with

respect. The virtues of

chastity, modesty and

moderation are learned by children as they are taught

how to eat, drink, bathe, dress and talk about their bod-

ies. Families promote positive body image and holiness

in these daily actions.
