August 2nd ♥ 18th Sunday in Ordinary

Time ♥ John 6:24-35 In this part of John’s Gospel, we hear how

a crowd of people followed Jesus because he

had given them bread to eat. Jesus told them not to

spend their lives working for regular food -- food that

doesn’t last. Instead they should work for food that

will make them live forever, that is, the “bread of life.”

Jesus is not saying that regular food isn’t important,

obviously we need it to be healthy. But Jesus wants us

to see the importance of having his life within us. And

so, he wants us to have the “bread of life.”

Why do you think Jesus calls himself “bread?” How

does Jesus feed us at Mass?

Does this help you to be a better person? How?

OUR 9TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS IN JULY WHAT AN AWESOME SUCCESS!

GREAT JOB!

Here are several testimonies ….

This X-mas in July I decided to do one thing different than in past years. So I went to St Francis Dining Hall and served the homeless/hungry. A great re-minder to be grateful for the blessings we have re-ceived. I also served lunch at the Blanchet House with several other parishioners. My niece Mad-die, her friend Lily along with Fr. Rodel, seminarian Stephen, Pat Richards and I were blessed to get a tour of the Blanchet House after we had finished serving lunch. Blanchet House is so much more than just feeding the hungry.... The Blanchet House strives to assist men (who qualify for the program) who have fallen on hard times and are trying to get on their feet. They have a working farm outside of town for some and up to 48+ others may get temporary hous-ing while they work on getting self sufficient and/or going to school, etc. We enjoyed hearing from the operations manager and how he fell in love with the Blanchet House's mission and quit a well paying job in construction to pursue serving those less fortu-nate. Hmmm, that is a lesson on humility. I experi-enced: wonder, beauty, humility, compassion, ser-vice, love, giving, receiving, joy.... humanity at its very best Gene Dieringer

We were happy to help! We love being a part of Holy Family. Amy Moreland & Family

This past week I was blessed, and I truly believe it was I who was blessed, to serve at Blanchet House as part of our Christmas in July. I knew nothing about it before I got there, and found myself soon serving hundreds of hungry and homeless individuals in a fast paced restaurant at-mosphere for about an hour. In total we served out 468 meals! As I was serving those men and women the power-ful realization kept coming over me that I was serving Christ. As Jesus says, "whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me" (Mt. 25:40). I began to see the people I was serving with a greater dignity, saying "sir" or "ma'am" as if I were a waiter serving guests at a high end restaurant, realizing that if it were Jesus sitting in front of me that is how I would serve him. Christ was hungry and we fed him, he was marginalized and we treated him with dignity, but most of all he blessed us, for each time we serve our neighbor our hearts learn how to love a little more like Jesus' heart loves. And to have the heart of Jesus - that's worth more than the whole world! Peace be with you! Stephen Kenyon
