FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
I had a dream,
Joseph
Mary’s Dream
I don’t understand, not really, but I think
it was about a birthday celebration for our
Son. I think that was what it was all about.
The people had been preparing for it for
about six weeks. They had decorated the house and bought new clothes.
They’d gone shopping many times and bought elaborate gifts. It was
peculiar, though, because the presents weren’t for our Son. They wrapped
them in beautiful paper and tied them with lovely bows and stacked them
under a tree. Yes, a tree, Joseph, right in their house. They’d decorated the
tree also. The branches were full of glowing balls and sparkling orna-
ments. There was a figure on the top of the tree. It looked like an angel
might look, Oh, it was beautiful. Everyone was laughing and happy. They
were all excited about the gifts. They gave the gifts to each other, Joseph,
not to our Son. I don’t think they even knew Him. They never mention His
name. Doesn’t it seem odd for people to go to all that trouble to celebrate
someone's birthday if they don’t know Him. I had the strangest feeling
that if our Son had gone to this celebration He would have been intruding.
Everything was so beautiful, Joseph, and everyone so full of cheer, but it
made me want to cry. How sad for Jesus - not to be wanted at His own
birthday celebration. I’m glad it was only a dream. How terrible, Joseph,
if it had been real.

Operation Snowflake is up and running! In the
event inclement weather, please check the parish
website, radio stations (WSTW, WJBR, WDEL),
and Remind.com (if applicable) for cancellations.
When in doubt, you may call the Parish or RE
Office for information as well. Remember, we
follow Christina School District cancellations for all of our
programs. When they are off, we are off. Be safe out there!
This Week marks the end of our 2017 RE Season!
We are closing the office on Friday, December 15
and RE will resume the week of January 7th!
Catechist In-service will be held on Tuesday,
January 2, 2018 in the Library!
A special THANK YOU for your
generosity in this year’s Giving
Tree Food Donations drive! Your
items help feed 23+ families this
year!!!!
We also thank all
our volunteers as well as the families
donating refreshments for our Advent
Morning of Reflection. We had
approximately 30 families of
sacramental prep and the GIFT
program join us. They learned the history of the advent
wreath and then families made their own “family friendly”
advent wreath. It was a fun time for all!
Religious Education is invaluable in the life of young
person. Through the generosity of our parishioners
over the years, we have been able to provide financial
assistance to those families in need. This year is no
exception as we have several families that have
requested assistance for their children. If you are able
and would like to support one of our families, please
contact the RE office at rgarland@holyfamilynewark
or 368.8976. Your generosity will be greatly
appreciated! All information will be kept confidential
and anonymous as requested. Thank you!!!

This week’s message focuses on John the Baptist, an eccentric, and passionate
man. He was an outsider, and many looked down on him. Despite John’s
appearance, and the opinions of others, Jesus sought him out. How often do
you avoid those that appear different than yourself? Do you avoid individuals
that dress strangely or seem odd? Jesus has come for everyone, not just those
who are popular, athletic, or intelligent. What can you do to help spread this
truth and the truth that has been revealed to us through Christ? How can you
be more inclusive and embrace others that are different than yourself? This
week prayerfully consider these questions, and contemplate how you might be
able to share the peace that Christ provides.
