PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
SUPPORTING KAITLIN As reported in our last newsletter Kaitlin O’Dwyer has achieved the great honour of being selected in the NSW PSSA Girls Hockey Team. She will compete in the Australian National Championships to be held at Bendigo, Victoria from 19-23 August. Having a student compete at national level is also a great honour for our school. However, there are many costs involved with fees, uniforms, travel, accommodation etc. In order to support Kaitlin we will have a fund raising mufti-day. This is to be held as part of our Science Day on Wednesday 14 August. Students are encouraged to come dressed in mufti or dressed up in a science themed outfit and bring a gold coin (or larger) donation. Thank you for your support. It will be a fun day!
COS CONCERT A reminder that our Community of Schools Concert will be held this Tuesday 6 August at Holsworthy High School Hall beginning at Matinee 11:30am and Evening at 6:30pm. Tickets need to be pre-purchased from our office.
EDUCATION WEEK OPEN DAY
We look forward to welcoming everyone to our Open Day this Wednesday 7 August. The day will begin at 10:00am with a debate in the library. Please refer to the note sent home recently for details.
SCIENCE DAY
A note will be sent home tomorrow with details of our annual Science Day to be held on Wednesday 14 August. Part of the day will be a science show, presented by a professional group, in our hall. This show is for all students. There is no cost to attend the show this year. We have decided to cover the entire cost as we are well aware of the high levels of monetary outlay required of many families at the moment. We look forward to a great day
Community Charter: We treat each other with respect.
MY COMMUNITY PROJECT As you are aware our P&C has applied for a NSW Government Community Grant to build a multi-purpose small hall. The application is titled “Hall for All at HPS”. The success of this application is entirely dependant upon the number of votes it attracts from the public. Therefore, I encourage you to vote and also encourage everyone you know to vote! Please see the information page attached to this newsletter which has a direct link to click on to vote. Peter Ward Principal
Last week we had a Maths Fun Day, when we celebrated 100 days of being at school this year.
Students did a spectacular job, with the support of their parents and carers, to dress up in a variety
of ways that represented 100. All students participated in different activities integrating skills in
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Here are some photos of the
successful day!

DEBATING NEWS Round Four of the Premier’s Debating Challenge is now complete. Holsworthy ‘Rookies’ defeated
Milperra Public School arguing “That schools should not replace all sports and exercise classes
with more classroom time.” The Holsworthy Titans debated against Casula Public School on the
topic “Teachers should have to participate in all school sport and exercise classes just like
students,” but unfortunately lost their debate. As this is the final round of our debates we excitedly
await the results of other schools to find out if we have made it through to the knockout rounds.
Both teams should be very happy with their performances this year.

HOLSWORTHY HIGH SCHOOL NAIDOC 2019 CELEBRATION On Wednesday July 24 students attended a NAIDOC assembly hosted by Holsworthy High
School. It began with a Cultural Aboriginal smoke and flag raising ceremony followed by a formal
assembly. Students were then treated to morning tea before participating in a dance workshop
run by a visiting performer. This was a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate NAIDOC
Week with students from our Community of Schools and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who
attended
