Performance Specification

Optical AssemblyThe optical assembly shall beEndural®, prismatic borosilicateglass with reflecting andrefracting prisms. Stem AssembliesDie cast combination fittingsshall be attached to DN20NPSM(.75”) rigid steel pipe to providean electrical enclosure and me-chanical support between theoptical and electrical assem-blies. The stem fitting shall beshipped attached to the integralelectrical assembly. Remoteballasted units shall include adecorative box cover and swivelplate.

The pre-wired, porcelainenclosed lampholder withcorrosion-resistant, nickel platedlamp grip screw shell shall befactory set for optimum lightdistribution.

PaintThe socket husk, stem andballast assembly shall beprotected against corrosion by aseven stage zinc phosphate pre-treatment followed by an elec-trostatically applied polyesterpowder painting and curingprocess.

All exposed hardware shallbe stainless steel or zinc platedsteel for corrosion protection.

Electrical AssembliesSurface Mounted (BL2A)Die cast aluminum housing shallcontain the electrical compo-nents and support the opticaland stem assemblies. A quickinstall box shall be providedfor concealed or throughwaywiring. The integral swivel plateshall allow a +15° motion in a360° plane. It shall be UL 1598listed as suitable for damplocations in 40° C ambients.

Recessed for Grid Ceilings(BL2B)The assembly shall be listed byUL as a recessed non-type I.C.,marked spacing, fixture per UL1598, for use in 25°C ambients.Minimum permitted spacingdimensions shall be 1220mm(48”) between centers ofadjacent fixtures, 50mm (2”)between top of fixture andoverhead building member and610mm (24”) between fixturecenter and sidewall. It shall be adie cast aluminum housing withelectrical components mountedon rails to locate the luminairebetween the grid members. Athermal overload protector shallbe provided. The stem assem-bly and optical refractor shall besupported from an integral platewhich allows the optics toswivel +15°. Wiring optionsshall include a quick disconnect,listed per UL 1059 and UL 98.

Integral Ballast (BL2C, 2D)The die cast aluminum housingshall contain the prewiredballast, electrical components

and stem and provide electricalenclosure and mechanicalattachment for the opticalassembly. It shall be balancedto hang straight when supportedby a hook or loop. The wiringchamber quick install cover shallbe predrilled for DN20NPT(.75”) pipe, shall slide onto andsupport the ballast and optics;and mate with the electricalsplice chamber cover to providepositive support. It shall belisted for 55°C or 65°C ambientdamp location per UL 1598.

Remote Ballast (BL2E, BL2F (with hook), BL2G)The remote ballast shall containthe core/coil ballast, capacitorand starter board, and emergen-cy relay if required. It shall beCSA certified and UL listed asmeeting UL standard number1029 for 40°C ambients. Thisballast is not suitable forrecessed ceiling applications asstandard. The ballast shall becompletely covered with apolyester resin and silica sandcompound for quiet operation.It shall provide 5 knockouts forconduit entry from both top andbottom wiring chambers. Thepolyester powder painted steelhousing shall have a one piecefull access cover, and bothkeyhole and slot mounting.Ballast shall be high powerfactor, over 90% and operateHPS lamps in ambient down to -40°C, Metal Halide lamps downto -20°C. It shall operate thelamp ________ ft. from theballast when using 2.7mm (#12AWG) wire.

Optional Electrical AssemblyMounting MethodsFor BL2B, BL2C or BL2D (choose one)

N - Non-Disconnect Pendantand Throughway WiringThe die cast aluminum integralwiring box shall contain provi-sions for DN20NPT (.75”)conduit, throughway, directceiling or pendant mounting. Itshall contain an integral hingewhich connects with the die castaluminum housing to supportthe luminaire (BL2C/D only)while electrical splices aremade.

It shall have the same corrosionresistant finish as the housing. It shall have 2 cast in sideknockouts (one on each side), 4 ceiling mount drill points,DN20NPT (.75”) conduitthreaded top opening, and becapable of carrying five (#10AWG) conductors for throughwiring.

The housing shall swing upand connect to the ND box bylatching the captive J bolt andwing nut without use of tools.

Q - Quick-Disconnect Pendantand Throughway WiringThe die cast aluminum quickdisconnect wiring box shallcontain provisions for DN20NPT (.75”) conduit,throughway, direct ceiling orpendant mounting. It shallcontain an integral hinge whichconnects with the die castaluminum housing to allow theluminaire to hang free (BL2C/Donly) with electrical disconnect.It shall have the same corrosionresistant finish as the housing.It shall have 2 cast in sideknockouts (each side), 4 ceilingmount drill points, DN20NPT(.75”) conduit threaded topopening, and be capable ofcarrying five #10 AWG conduc-tors for throughway wiring.

The housing shall swing upand connect to the QD box bylatching the captive J bolt andwing nut without the use oftools.

A dead front female recepta-cle shall be mounted inside theQD box which will make anelectrical connection with thepre-wired male plug on thehousing. The groundingconnections shall be the first tomake contact and the last to dis-connect.

It shall be CSA Certified andUL listed per UL 1059 (TerminalBlocks) and UL 98 (Enclosedand Dead Front Switches) per-mitting the fixture to be discon-nected while under load to meetOSHA requirements forrelamping.

Performance Specifications

A decorative ceiling box covershall be factory attached to thestem assembly. The pre-wired,porcelain enclosed lampholderwith corrosion-resistant, nickelplated lamp grip screw shellshall be factory set foroptimum light distribution.

Electrical AssemblyRecessed/Remote: Therecessed/remote electricalassembly shall contain theballast, thermal overloadprotectors, wiring chamber andstem mounting box. It shall belisted per UL 1029 and 935both as a remote ballast and aballast for recessed gridceilings in 40°C, dry ambients.The .76mm (22 gauge) steelhousing shall contain 3 knock-outs on each side, grid ceilingpositioning feet, a quick installsteel cover, and hanger wiresupport holes. The factoryattached optical mounting boxshall provide a hook to allowswivel of the optical assembly.The ballast shall operate a_____ watt _____ medium base(HPS or MH), compactfluorescent, White Son lamp,or incandescent lamp. The cast aluminumdecorative bottom closureshall support the opticalassembly after contractorwiring and attachment to thehousing.

AERS® Option(See page 11)The standard Holophane luminaire is designed with amodified ballast and relay.The modified ballast is designed to operate thelamp at two input wattages:HPS, normal input like astandard luminaire, and areduced input, either 35%or 50% of full input. Metalhalide, normal input and areduced input of 50%. Therelay is wired to an occu-pancy sensor (or some typeof contact closure) througha control module allowingthe luminaire to switchbetween the two input watt-ages. The relay signals theballast which input wattageto supply the lamp at anytime.

“P” standard pendantseries, fuse holder isattached to splice boxcover (shown above).

“Q” series,single fuse “F1”available for 120, 240, 277and 347V; double fuse“F2” available for 208, 240and 480V.
