A modern wilderness.

With a healthy respect for the past

and an eye towards the future.

If it’s possible to improve on what

nature intended, this would be the

place. Our ranch is where brave and

hardy pioneers settled over a hundred

years ago. Today at The High

Lonesome Ranch, we diligently

continue their ranching heritage,

by reinvesting a large portion of our

revenues and using the latest

conservation practices to enhance

the land and waters.

While you’re here, you own the place.

The High Lonesome Ranch is where you can escape the trappings of everyday life and find out who you really are.

While you’re here you will find 300 secluded square miles where you can reconnect with your family, your friends,

your colleagues and, most importantly, yourself. On horseback, on bike, or on foot. Fish, hunt, ride and climb.

By day, you’ll be tested and thrilled. By night, you’ll be pleasantly wined and dined. You won’t just look at the stars,

you’ll be treated like one. The High Lonesome Ranch.

The Dude Ranch ExperienceOur week-long Dude Ranch experiences

cater to all levels of equestrians.

Programs begin on Sundays and

conclude on Saturdays, often with

families' being fully bonded to one

another, their wranglers and especially to

their horses. We offer riding lessons,

cattle drives, round ups, roping, team

penning, reining, a western obstacle

course, branding, equestrian

geocaching, and even an introduction to

barrel racing. If you've never mounted a

horse, this is the perfect place to learn to

ride. Our patient instructors can turn you

into a cowpoke in a short time.

We've got more trails for you to ride

than you could cover in a lifetime.

Whether you ford streams or ride

through the cottonwoods you will

become part of the High Lonesome

legacy. We offer miles of trails that

range from an hour to a day and you

won't even need to cross a public road.

Whether it is your first ride or your 50th

year in the saddle we guarantee that

you’ll have a great time. Before you leave

The High Lonesome Ranch, we will do

our best to make you say, “I wanna be a

cowboy.”

Five species of birds. Hungarian

partridge, pheasant, scaled quail,

Gambel’s quail, and chukars love the

cover of rye and wheat fields, the

sagebrush flats, the creek bottoms,

and mountain slopes. We plant and work

the land every year to keep it that way.

Two full time dog trainers work our 46

English pointers and pointing and

flushing labs. Kennels to accommodate

your dogs. Whatever your skill level,

you’re in for a great time – every shoot

is custom tailored. We provide friendly,

expert guides who will chaperone you

through our coverts. The Lonesome

Outfitter will serve up things you forgot,

and offer you shotgun rentals to simplify

your travel to the ranch. The High

Lonesome Ranch offers the finest wing

shooting opportunities in this part of the

world. And you can’t beat the Colorado

Rockies for some breathtaking scenery.

We don’t like to brag, but if you don’t

wear yourself out on the trout around

here, you’re not trying. Join our Grand

Slam Club by catching a brook, brown,

rainbow, and cutthroat trout in one day.

It doesn’t happen every day, but it

happens often enough. Or join our

25-inch club. Our trout grow big, with

the ranch record at over 12 pounds. No

doubt, the water helps make this place

special. Our exclusive spring creek

meanders down our valley for miles

through a series of ponds and small

lakes for you to discover – and so

peacefully isolated, you may never see

another soul all day. Or head to our

K-T Ranch in Meeker and fish seven

miles of the White River and three

spring creeks. Hatches come off all year

long. Add in a float trip on the nearby

Roaring Fork and Colorado Rivers, and

you'll have your own Western sampler.

There’s something for everyone, from

beginner to expert. Our Lonesome

Outfitter is fully stocked with the best

gear, and it’s a great place to gather for

fly-fishing tips, to arrange professional

casting instructions, and to hear some

stories. And remember, nothing grows

faster than a fish from when it bites until

it gets away.

Science, Conservation, and EducationThe Ranch has taken on a number of

conservation and restoration projects,

which stem from partnerships that bring

together the public, private and scientific

sectors. At the forefront lies cutting-edge

science. Teams of scientists have

completed a baseline assessment of

plant and animal life and are evaluating

the health of the ranch's wide variety of

animals and habitats. This ongoing

research represents a long-term

investment in stewardship of this

quintessential Western landscape,

and is expected to take a decade to

complete. Guests have the exciting

opportunity to learn about, participate in,
