After you scoop out and carve your pump-kin, dip it in a large container of bleach andwater (use a 1 tsp:1 gal mix). The bleachwill kill bacteria and help your pumpkin

stay fresh longer. Once completely dry,(drain upside down), add 2 tablespoon ofvinegar and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to aquart of water. Brush this solution ontoyour pumpkin to keep it looking fresh forweeks.

We certainly were busy watching the

news right after 9/11. Some, Im sure,

never saw this. It's been 12 years since

this happened. This is a video well worth watching. The guy at the end (same

guy who is at the beginning) has some great words to live by for all of

us.Watch tillthe end. You won't regret it.

Arnie. It was a pleasure spending time with them theday before the 1961 50th Reunion (September 2011) atthe high school. We toured the school together and hadwonderful memories. I will keep both of them and theirfamily in my prayers.

Many thanks to Lillian Ramirez for this touching story...I thought I would pass this video along in case you havent seen it yet, so neat to see how much love thisman had for his wife. Enjoy!!!

A song written by a 96-year-old to his late wife has gone viral. Fred Stobaugh wrote the lyrics to what hecalled "Sweet Lorraine" after his wife of 73 years died last April. He sent the lyrics to Green Shoes Studiosafter seeing a singer-songwriter contest at Illinois' Green Shoe Studios.

Producers at the studio say his entry was unlike the others. It came in an envelope with the lyrics written ina letter.

The studio chose to help Stobaugh's lyrics come to life by producing the song with professional musicians.

The song "Sweet Lorraine" is available for download on itunes.

    Hi,

Missed your wonderful newsletter this month because Iforgot to notify you of my new email address. Pleasechange Linda Gund Agers email to (concealed). We hadto change providers due to the squabble between TimeWarner and CBS. How dumb of TWC; bet they lost lotsof customers.

    Thank you Linda 1964

Editor NoteLindaThe newsletter is al-ways available on our website http://hixnews.com

The fact that you didn't send us your newemail has no effect on the newsletter. Thefirst of each month finds the new newsletterposted at hixnews. Just click the above link, then bookmark the browser into your fa-vorites. Each month, on the first, just clickthe book marked hyperlink.

    Love Yah Buffalo Bob

Linda, sorry you missed your notificationemail. I think it's never a good idea to havea primary email address tied to a serviceprovider when there are some good freealternatives that avoid the problems of hav-ing to change. I recommend gmail.com veryhighly.

We can't edit your email address in themailing list, but you can do so very easily.Just visit hixnews.com and subscribe with

your new address on the main page.

I can't access Photo Gallery on the Hicksville website. Also, I visited Daryl Pe-terman in Selden and learned he moved down southin the Carolinas some-

    where. Thanks for trying.

    Bob Uhlich 1957

Editor NoteRobert, I'm sorry you're having trouble accessing the Photo Gallery on theHixnews web site. the Photo Gallery link this month goes to a rather large MP4 video file

hosted elsewhere that takes a while to download and play so give it some time, perhaps even afew minutes if you're on a slower connection.

I'm having trouble, too, at my day job locationwhich oddly enough has a much slower connection than I have at home.

    Roger Whitaker, webmaster for hixnews.com

Editor NoteI can go to the Photo Gallery link and it starts playing very quick-ly but there is no video to the file, just audio. Thats probably the issue every-one is having. Maybe repost the file?

The same thing happens in Memory LaneDavid

Editor Note from RogerI think it may be dependent on what browser you'reusing. I've seen all variations. Acts like it's loading, but nothing happens for10 minutes, other browsers only have the audio and (ugh) IE plays the fileeventually on my slow connection.

More from DavidYep. Chrome tries to play it in the browser, no video. IE10tries to download it and open it outside of the browser. Audio and Video. Love

    these browser wars NOT!

More from RogerI'm guessing that a Mac with Safari would be like Chromebrowser since they share the webkit rendering engine. I'm not rich enough toown a Mac, but one of my entrepreneurial 14 year old granddaughters earnedthe money to buy her own.

    And were off!
