A MONTHLY PUBLICATION OF HIGHLAND BAPTIST CHURCH
NOVEMBER 2015
Church family,
It is a Monday morning. I love Mondays. I
actually always have. Since I came to be the
Pastor at Highland, Mondays have become
even more important to me. Most Mondays
(at least 95% of the time), I do my heavy
lifting in sermon preparation for Sunday Morning. I love to get a cup of coffee and study.
Usually, I already know what passage I will preach (which to me is the most difficult part), and I
study. It is precious time to me. It is a ritual I truly enjoy.
Today has started just a little bit differently. I am certainly a little more reflective than usual. I
did not immediately come in to study. (The quick reason behind that is I have put off a Lord’s Supper service for that
past couple of weeks even though it was already prepared.) I started my Monday just being thankful for all God has done
and is doing in my life and certainly in the life of His great church—Highland Baptist.
Let me quickly tell you what I am thankful for. I am thankful for our staff, and I am thankful we have a new Music
Minister! I am happy to welcome Charlie Knight, our newest member to the staff. Charlie is a gifted musician. He
loves to sing hymns and the newer praise songs. This past Sunday, as our church voted unanimously to bring Charlie
aboard. I believed, and believe, it was because God called Charlie here. God is already using Charlie to help us see our
DNA in the musical part of our worship. We are a multi-generational congregation. This does not divide us...it unites us.
Charlie’s choice of music was a direct reflection of that. Please take time to welcome Charlie to our church staff and
family.
I am thankful to our personnel committee. This has been a long process looking for God’s person to do our music. I am
not sure how most personnel committees work, but this one laughed, cried, challenged, and most importantly sought the
Lord’s will together. I know we all will look back on the process fondly. I certainly will.
I am thankful to our music ministry folks. Tricia Shears has done a great job holding really two positions. Trying to
maintain a choir and play the organ. Barbara Kizer and Barbara Abbe have been in the office almost every week tying to
get music together and asking what could be done to prepare for our music ministry. From our sound and video guys, to
our band/instrumentalists, and choir, I want to say thank you. You all have been faithful to the process. I know
sometimes you may have wondered if we would get there...I think we finally have.
Thank you church family for trusting us during this process. I believe our best days are ahead of us, and I cannot wait to
see what God is going to do. God bless you church family as you continue to bless Him.

16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as
you teach and admonish one another with all
wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and
spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to
God. 17And whatever you do, whether in word
or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Charlie Knight: New Music Minister
Charlie was born and
raised in Keller, TX and
has been involved in
church ministry since he
was 17 years old. He
came to know Christ at
the age of nine while attending VBS at his home
church in Grapevine, TX. From there, God would call
him to vocational ministry at the age of fourteen and
he has been working with students, children and
musicians during his time in the local church. Charlie
has spent the past year working in camp ministry in
upstate New York but called Lubbock home from
2013 to 2014 while he worked in the music ministry at
Victory Life Baptist. He was excited that the Lord
called him back to Lubbock so he could enjoy more
Red Raider football and continue to minister in the
Lone Star State! Charlie enjoys spending time
discipling youth through music and spiritual
disciplines as well as staying active and studying
political science.
