The opulence of the Renaissance era, and the Romance that entwined people and
legends has lived on through the ages. So, as the importance of matrimony takes
on a new veil in this era, we are pleased to feature fantastic places, wonderfully
romantic ideas and contemporary helpful tips to create the perfect Cinderella wed-
ding. From our fashion shoot that is Shakespearean inspired to our more modern
day version of the happily ever after gowns, Brides everywhere can visualize them-
selves in the perfect storybook wedding.
The celebration itself takes on a regal look with ideas from world-class caterer
Jackson Hicks and hall of fame cake designer Kerry Vincent.
Our beauty experts explain the steps to make the bride naturally beautiful with their
tips and trends. And relationship expert Mary Ellen Gor offers up ideas on growing
your relationship garden.
Let's not forget the guys as our men's section has some really great information for
the groom. In keeping with our Renaissance theme we feature Celebrity Fathers of the
Bride in tux. These Renaissance men are multifaceted and talented showing off the
latest in father's fashion. We also have some tips from author Shelly Hagen's book
The Everything Father of the Bride Book- A survival guide for Dad! Generally speak-
ing without him there would be no celebration. He quietly listens to all the commo-
tion in preparation, offers up his checkbook and occasionally his opinion, to ensure
his daughter has the finest wedding possible.
Of course Destinations IS World Class Weddings and we have found the finest des-
tinations in the world. From our great United States we feature incredible destina-
tions to have a celebration fit for a princess! And from across the pond we feature
the places that created the Renaissance, Ireland and England. Of course the Island
Destinations are pure Romance! Here couples can celebrate and relax-- a winning
combination!
We sincerely hope you enjoy this issue of World Class Weddings!

Renaissance and RomanceSILK AND SADDLES: European Elegance
Meets Rustic Charm at Cherokee Ranch and Castle
By Lori PaigePhotography by Vicky A. Heine
No matter how far she lives from Europe, many a bride-to-be has dreamed of say-ing her vows in a castle, surrounded byrichly paneled walls hung with lush tapes-tries and majestic oil paintings. Yet thelogistics of overseas travel may leave herconvinced that her dream wedding willremain only a fantasy.
Fortunately, Cherokee Ranch and Castlecan offer any bride and her Prince abreathtakingly romantic atmospherestraight out of a storybook…without everleaving the United States!
Located in one ofthe most pictur-esque regions ofColorado,Cherokee Ranchand Castle offersvisitors andbridal couplesnot just OldWorld charm, buta uniquelyAmerican experi-ence as well. This is the happyresult of blending
Scottish-style architecture with a workingWestern cattle ranch. Guests enter the castlefeeling as if they’ve been magically transportedto another continent and century, only to emergein a landscape that seems delightfully familiarand homey.
Built in 1926 for Bostonian Charles AlfredJohnson and his wife, Alice, the Castle was orig-inally called Charlford, after the Johnsons’ twosons Charles and Gifford. In 1954, these samesons sold the estate to eccentric divorceeMildred Montague Genevieve Kimball, known toher friends as “Tweet.” It was Tweet who fur-nished the castle with a variety of objects d’art, collected during her tenure as the wife of aBritish diplomat. She also established a top-notch wine cellar and founded the Castle’sranching business, importing (and sometimeseven unloading) her own cattle. Tweet passedaway in 1999, but in keeping with her love fornature and the castle, the entire operation isnow a non-profit foundation dedicated to envi-ronmental preservation and education. The jux-taposition of its studied elegance and naturalbeauty has made it a prime location for luxurygetaway weddings.

Located at the end of a scenic three-mile driveway, the castle itself is a stun-ning creation, hewn from warmly coloredstone and petrified wood (including, insome places, entire tree trunks). Thestructure covers some 11,000 square
feet andincludes 26rooms, 4 tur-rets, 8 fire-places, anda Great Hallfit to receiveroyal visitors(which ithas). In keeping with theRenaissance flavorof the structure, thedécor features 15thand 16th CenturyEuropean paintings,
original drawings by master English architectChristopher Wren, and vintage collections ofShakespeare and other classic authors.
Here, guests ages 12 and over can enjoy toursand “High Tea” in the British style. This tradition-al gathering features not just the tea itself but adelicious selection of pastries and scones, all ofwhich are sure to delight all members of thewedding party.
If the Castle’s interior is dedicated to the preser-vation of culture, its exterior celebrates the won-ders of Colorado’s wilderness. Encompassingover 3,100 acres of scrub, forest, and openspace, the grounds are now a wildlife preservethat shelters mountain lions, elk, bears, andsome 50 species of birds. This includes eagles, many of them alumni of the on-site Birds of PreyRehabilitation Foundation, which nurses injuredbirds until they can return to the open sky.
Guests interested in exploring the outdoors canparticipate in nature walks, guided tours, andphotography expeditions (pictures are permittedonly outside the castle).
With so many exciting spots on its grounds,Cherokee Ranch and Castle is well-equipped to host spectacular weddingseither indoors or out. Several options areavailable, both with and without Castleaccess. Inside ceremonies may be con-ducted in front of the main fireplace, withbuffet service in the Great Hall andacoustic music floating down from the min-strel’s loft above. The couple’s First Dancemay also take place inside the Castle(though disc jockeys and dance bands arenot permitted inside). As part of the recep-tion, guests may elect to join a guided tourof the upper levels, or the entire party mayretire to the Pavilion, Castle Court, or theVeranda to continue the festivities.
