Brief History of the Audit Programme

• It came out of the ‘lead role’ on SMRs given to RCHME in 1989 and the subsequent Recording England’s Past report in 1993.

• In 1993 two SMR were used as pilot sites for audits.• An audit specification was produced in 1995 which has had a number of revisions.• There have been many significant changes affecting SMRs since the programme began.
