Helping Parents Empower their Teens
to be Charitable
Yes, you CAN work with the Parents
See Parents as Partners – make sure they understand and support your program’s goals.
Get their Buy-in.
Ask parents to get out of the car -
Use the orientation to: Explain expectations -Clarify roles
of facilitator, parents and teens
Understand responsibilities
Offer value-added role (it’s not just carpooling)
Motivate and excite parents
“Where’s the Beef?”Demonstrate the program’s valuethrough ongoing communication and activities.
It’s not just another activity.
Illustrate the deliverables.
Parents need to embrace tzedakah and tikkun olam for foundation experience to resonate with teens.

Communication – frequent, clear and brief - talk about the value of the program, not just logistics
Email plus – parents still use (talk on) the phone
Two- way communication – be available and willing to listen
