nameHeinke.Since1985,HeinkeTSGshavebeensuccessfullysuppliedtomajorsegmentallylinedtunnelprojectsaroundtheworld.TheTSGs,whicharelocatedinprecastgroovesencirclingthematingfacesofeachsegment,giveasecurerubber-to-rubberwaterproofsealassoonasthesegmentsareboltedtogether.
ThelowcompressionsetandstressrelaxationvaluesoftheelastomericcompoundusedintheirmanufactureenableelastomericTSGstorecoverunderreducedappliedloadtherebymaintainingapositivesealbetweensegmentsdespitegroundmovements.

WhenspecifyingTSGsforsegmentedtunnelapplications,thereareanumberoffactorswhichneedtobetakenintoaccount.Itistheparticularcombinationoffactorsineachcasewhichdeterminestheeventualchoiceofgasket,whichinturnensuresanefficient,watertightsealovertheprojectedservicelifeofthetunnel.UponrequestwecanforwardaSpecificationGuidewhichliststhesefactors.
Onthebasisofinformationprovided,TrelleborgRidderkerkBVwillbeabletospecifythemostsuitableandeconomicalHeinkeTSGforaparticularapplication.Toeasetheselectionprocess,customersareinvitedtoconsultTrelleborgRidderkerkBVwhowillidentify,testanddemonstratetheappropriategasketforaparticularproject.
Segmentalliningsrequiregasketstoensureawatertightseal.Groundwaterisnormallyunderpressureandthechosengasketmustthereforebetestedforitsabilitytowithstandthepressuresinvolved.Thiscanbedonebyusingspeciallydesignedtestrings.Thesearebuilttosimulatetheworstconditionswhichcanbeexpected
duringconstructionandservicelifeofthetunnel.Hydrostaticpressureisbuiltupwithintherigtotherequiredtestpressureandmaintainedforaprolongedperiodoftime.Thetestpressureisalwayshigherthanthehighestworkingpressuretoensureamarginofsafety.

Gapsanddisplacementsoccurbetweensegments,eitherasanallowanceforbuildingtolerancesortohelpsteerage,lineandlevelduringtheconstructionofthetunnel(seeFigA).ThepurposeoftheTSGistosealtotherequiredpressureatthemaximumexpectedgapanddisplacement.Asthesizeofthegapand/ordisplacementincreases,theabilityforagivenTSGtowithstandwaterpressuredecreases.
Itisimportanttoknowtheforcesrequiredtocompressthegasketasthesedictatetheforcerequiredtobringtwosegmentscompletelytogether.TrelleborgRidderkerkBVcanprovidethisinformationbyusingoneofitscompressiontestingfacilitieswhichplotstheforceagainstclosureforagivengasket,seeFigB.

Thegrooveisrequiredtolocatethegasketinthesegmentandisofasizethatwhenthesegmentsareclosed,(ienogap),thevolumeofrubberishousedwithinthegroove.Ifthevolumeofrubberexceedsthegroovedimensions,itwillnotbepossibletoclosethesegmentsfully.
