IMPORTANT SAFETY REGULATIONS

ALL WIRING MUST CONFORM TO THE LATEST IET WIRING REGULATIONSThermoSphere underfloor heating cables and mats are CE approved, certified and manufactured to the highest standards using state of the art Fluoropolymer coated cables. All our cables and mats are designed to be Part P compliant and the instructions we supply with them include as much

information as possible to ensure that all installations comply with them. Please call our freephone customer care line if in any doubt on 0800 019 5899.

Insulation should be in place before you start this installation. ThermoSphere screed cable is to be used with a cementitious screed. 50mm of screed is the minimum thickness and your ThermoSphere cable must be at least 30mm beneath the top of the screed. Depending on the construction of your substrate, you may need to provide additional insulation.

A suitable 230V electrical mains supply is essential to the installation of this product. This mains supply should be fitted with an adequate RCD. This supplies power to a thermostat, so feed the mains cable to a back box where you want your thermostat positioned. The cold tail of your screed cable is 3m long with live, neutral and earth wires that connect to your thermostat and back box (earth only). If circuit exceeds 16A install a contactor/ snubber, refer to relevant installation guide.

Do Ensure sensor conduit is positioned between 2 runs of heating cable in a representative area of the floor

Take care to ensure all insulation joins are as flush as possible, using reinforcing tape if necessary

Take care to ensure all electrical work complies with the latest IET regulations

Locate the thermostat in accordance with current guidelines

Read this document in conjunction with instructions for associated accessories (eg thermostats)

Ensure test procedures a, b & c are carried out and recorded. This is essential for completion of the warranty

Install conduit to facilitate replacement of the sensor probe if required

Use primer before self levelling compound or tile adhesive if the manufacturer recommends it

Protect heating cables during installation, as this is when it is most prone to damage

Do not Cut or shorten the yellow cable!

Position conduit near pipes or doorways

Lay insulation on top of underfloor heating (ufh) or a dusty substrate. Insulation on top of ufh will reflect all the heat emitted back into the substrate

Position temperature sensor near hot pipes or temperature influences

Cross or overlap heating cables

Wire multiple heating cables in series

Strain or bend the cold tail end connections

Turn on system until screed, adhesive or levelling compound is fully cured

Do not place anything over the floor covering that has a tog rating higher than 2.5.

Do not place bean bags, fixed furniture, cushions, pet beds, mattresses or any insulating material over the heated floor covering.

Planning: Screed cable formation options

This section will show you the nature of a screed installation, helping you to understand and plan your installation in the next section. The screed fixing profile normally span the width of your installation. This will not always be possible when dealing with irregular rooms. The section below highlights some common cable formations. If you cannot see a solution to your installation here please call our customer help line (0800 019 5899).

Meander the cable the width of your installation area in one run without returning the cable.

Extend each run with the installation as it widens laying a new fixing profile with each new area.

Install as normal and use smaller sections of fixing profile to se-cure the cable where required.

Use the grid above to plan your installation. This will help you to produce the safest, quickest and cleanest result with as little wastage as possible.

Measure your room, if you don‘t already know the dimensions, and make a note of the available floor space excluding any obstacles or fixtures you might have such as sanitary ware, furniture or drainage. Use the grid to plan your installation layout making sure to include thermostat and sensor position.

Correct spacing is essential. Ensure screed cable is spaced evenly at least 50mm apart. The fixing profile also needs equal spacing at approx 750mm.

Planning: Layout & cable spacing

Load calculations: If the total load of your system is over 16A you will need to have a contactor/snubber installed by a Part P qualified electrician. Call our technical help line if you have any questions (0800 019 5899).

Starting from a corner begin to roll your insulation around the perimeter of your room. Also insulate all pipes and fixed obstacles.

This allows the screed to expand and contract when heated. Failure to allow for this expansion could result in a breakage in the screed.

Step 4: Perimeter insulation

Installation: Installing cable and perimeter insulation foam

Starting from the proposed or existing position of your thermostat begin to meander your screed cable. The cable should run up and down the room at 90o to the fixing profile. It is essential to have an even (50mm minimum) spacing between each run of cable to avoid uneven distribution of heat.
