University experience

We have now received additional funding to support improved progress in English and Maths for year 7’s who came to us below level 4 in Maths or Reading. There is information about what we are doing with the money on our website:www.heathfield.leics.sch.uk

School re-opens after the Easter break on Monday 8th April and students will be able to wear the summer uniform.

Thanks to all parents who not only contribute to fund raising but also encourage their children to be outward looking in this respect. We raised £447 for Comic Relief last week but students themselves raise money for a variety of causes. At the moment they are selling cakes for Pondylink and raffle tickets for Guide Dogs.

We are always pleased to receive feedback and suggestions from parents so please write in to the Head Teacher if you would like to do this. If you think we are doing a good job, or even if you think we are not, you can do a quick entry on ‘Parent View’ on the OFSTED website. It only takes a couple of minutes and there is a link to it from our school website.

Almost 50 year 9’s had a University Experience Day at the University of Leicester. They were great ambassadors for the school as they all responded in a very adult way to some of the challenging tasks. Well Done!

On Friday 15th March, 14 year 4, 5 and 6 students from Weavers Close C of E Primary School came to us at Heathfield. They spent the morning exploring how lenses change the direction of light rays and how eyes actually allow us to see. During the morning they made pinhole cameras and compared these to simple eyes and then had a go with a camera obscura. The students impressed us with their very good making skills and the level of knowledge and understanding they showed. They reported that they had had fun and we are looking forward to their next visit.

Yet again The Heathfield Academy was the only secondary school to give students the opportunity to take part in the HASP Dance and Drama Festival. The theme this year was ‘Amazing Grace’ and our students did a piece called ‘Romeo & Juliet’ which was absolutely brilliant! Well done.
