from the Rowville Lysterfield News attend our final
assembly, to present their special award to two Year 5 students who have demonstrated all round excellence through their participation in school activities and who uphold the school’s values and in doing so, are a credit to themselves and the school. The 2018 recipients were Ethan Neill, and Aphroditi Agathogleous. Congratulations to them both
International Mother Tongue Day, 21 February 2019
The Theme for 2019: Indigenous languages matter
for development, peace building and reconciliation.
‘The United Nations General Assembly has declared
2019 the International Year of Indigenous Languages
to raise awareness of the crucial role languages play
in people’s daily lives. In Australia, of the estimated
original 250 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
languages, only around 120 are still spoken. Of these approximately 90 per cent are
endangered. 2019 is an opportunity to continue raising awareness and taking further
actions to improve preservation and promotion of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander languages.’
Language resources and events
The Victorian Aboriginal Corporation for Languages (VACL) is launching a new campaign entitled #Wurrung, with a suite of projects aimed to help protect, promote and preserve Victoria’s 38 Aboriginal living languages. More information about this can be found at
the UN, International Year of Indigenous Languages website. Student Leadership Roles/Captains

Insurance
Please note that school does not have personal accident insurance or ambulance cover.
Personal Accident Insurance
Parents are reminded that the Department of Education and Early Childhood
Development (DEECD), does provide personal accident insurance for students.
Parents and guardians are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment of
injured students, including any transport/ambulance costs. Reasonable low cost
accident insurance policies are available from commercial insurers. To find a suitable
personal accident insurer, contact your insurance broker or search on line.
Personal Property
Students should be discouraged from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable
item to school as the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development does
not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it has no capacity to
pay for any loss or damage to such property. Personal property includes such items as
mobile phones, calculators, toys sporting equipment and cars parked on school
premises.
Staff Car Park
Please do not enter or park in the Staff Car Park as this is reserved for
staff parking only and most importantly, children’s safety may be put
at risk as they are not expecting moving cars during school hours.
Working with Childrens Check
School Council has requested that all parents volunteering at Heany Park Primary School
hold a current Working with Childrens Check (WWC). The volunteer checks are free to
parents. They can be applied for at the following online site
www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/home/application
