THE NORWAY THE
NORWEGIANS Some may have the perception that Norwegians are
somewhat introvert people. However, once you get to
know them, you will experience that they are friendly,
down to earth people with a love for nature and
outdoor activities.
NORWEGIAN NATURENorway is Europe’s great parkland with a breathtaking scenery; a dramatic mix of mountains, sea, forests and fjords.
4 SEASONSSummer nights bright as day, colorful fall, delightful snowy winters and green spring make Norway a very special country. There are plenty of attractions and activities to keep you busy in the summer – sightseeing in the fjords, hiking in the mountains, salmon fishing in the rivers and lots of festivals throughout the country. In the winter, all kinds of winter sports may be enjoyed; cross-country and downhill skiing, sliding and ice-skating.

THE WAY AROUNDHBV is located in the southern part of Norway, in four different campuses: Drammen, Kongsberg, Ringerike and Vestfold. All four campuses are situated close to Oslo and are easily reachable from the three closest airports: Oslo Gardermoen, Sandefjord Torp and Rygge Moss.
Campus Drammen The town of Drammen is located 30 minutes from Oslo, surrounded by a beautiful valley and with a wide river running through
it. Drammen offers a wide variety of social and cultural events with a number of activities and festivals revolving around the river.
Relating to outdoor activities, there is a number of tracks for hiking or bicycling to enjoy during the summer, in addition to golfing
and boating opportunities. In wintertime, you may enjoy the prepared cross-country ski tracks or downhill skiing facilities close to
the city centre.
Campus Kongsberg Kongsberg was founded as a silver mining town in 1624, and the historical roots of the town are still very visible. Today, the town has
a lively cultural scene, including an annual jazz festival with a large number of international performers and visitors. Kongsberg is
also known for the group of international technology industries. Situated close to the mountains, the city is ideal for outdoor activities
such as alpine and cross-country skiing, hiking and bicycling.
Campus Ringerike Campus Ringerike is situated in Hønefoss in the Ringerike area, in eastern Norway. Ringerike has been inhabited for thousands
of years and has been associated with the Norwegian monarchs since the age of the Vikings. The countryside in Ringerike is both
dramatic and easily accessible, making it ideal for a range of outdoor activities, such as hiking, cycling, hunting, skiing and hang
gliding. Swimming, boating, canoeing and fishing are popular activities on the many lakes and rivers in the region.
Campus Vestfold Campus Vestfold is located at Bakkenteigen, in the county of Vestfold, between Tønsberg and Horten, approximately one hour drive
south of Oslo. Tønsberg is generally regarded as the oldest town in Norway dating back to 871 A.D. and the area contains several
reminders of the ancient Viking era. Vestfold offers a beautiful countryside and scenery all year round. In Vestfold, you may engage
in diverse seasonal and outdoor activities such as cross-country and downhill skiing, cycling and sailing. The region also offers a
spectacular island archipelago for all to explore.

THE WAY OF LIVING
RECOMMENDS HBV TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
For Matthias Müller HBV was the obvious choice when he decided to study abroad.
Matthias Müller (26) from Schleswig, Germany is one of many international students at HBV. This is his second year of the Masters programme in Maritime Management at Campus Vestfold.
Half of his class consists of students from countries other than Norway.
– I feel welcome at HBV, and students as well as the staff are usually very pleased to assist whenever it is required. In my opinion, the Norwegian educational system goes very well along with students’ social life. I would really recommend other students from outside Norway to study here.
– I am not used to adressing my professors with their first names.
I like the fact that I easily, and without any hassle, can stop by their offices to pose a question or get assistance of some kind.
Matthias Müller, Germany
Accommodation
All four HBV campuses provide housing to international
students. Our accommodation services are run by the Student
Welfare Foundation in Vestfold (SIV) and the Student Welfare
Services in Buskerud (Sibu). Accommodation is pre-booked
for all incoming international exchange students (requires
submission of application before deadline), and are also available
to international full degree-students as well as local Norwegian
students. More information about housing, prices and facilities
is available on www.sibu.no and siv.hbv.no.
First choiseMüller wanted to experience a new country and culture. His first choice was Norway, and HBV had the ideal Master’s programme he needed to pursue a career within maritime leadership, preferably within Scandinavian-German trade relations.
– My main motivation to come here was Norway’s excellent reputation in the maritime sector and the attractive program curriculum. My motivation to keep going forth with my studies is kept at a high level by following my favorite modules, such as Ship Operations.
– Lots to do Müller thrives in the academic and social environment at HBV and enjoys using the great sporting facilities at Campus Vestfold, as he is a devoted ping-pong and badminton player.
He is happy staying in the new student housing on campus, and he knows how to get unwinded:
– There is a lot of social activites available nearby, and the night life is great in the towns located around campus. Even Oslo is not too far by train if, I want to go for a big night out.
