Student this week Interview questions
Name: Ari Age: 7 Class: Room 2 Teacher: Mrs Norton How long have you been at Rotokawa School? 3 Years What are 3 things that you love about Rotokawa?
There's lots of space and lots of places to play with your friends.
I like the pool, because I love to swim.
You get to play with your friends all the time.
Is there anything that we can do to improve our school? I would change a thing. It is great how it is.

Our Place
By Wiki & Jethro
School Values – Ngā Uara
By Patrezcija & Maia
Our Canopy area
Our canopy is used for kids to go under when it is raining and gives us a sun-safe place for when the sun is shining.
Our canopy was created when Briar Stewart was the principal.
Under the canopy, we always use our school values:
Have fun - Tū Koakoa ai - Our canopy area can be used to play games like netball, basketball and tennis
Include others - Tū Mana - We include others under the canopy area by always allowing people into our games
Respect others - Tū Mana - We show respect by taking care of all of our equipment that we use when under the canopy
Be Safe and Responsible - Tū Tapu - We always stay safe by staying within the fence boundary
Be Truthful - Tū Pono – When equipment goes over the fence, we are truthful about what happened
Have Fun – Tū Koakoa ai is one of our school values. This values means a lot to our school. At Rotokawa we can have FUN by…
Riding the bikes on the bike track
Swimming in the pool in the summer
Playing games on the court
Taking turns on the swing Having fun in our school looks like…
Smiling children, families and staff
Children engaged in their learning
Teacher’s loving what they are doing
People laughing
Working with each other

Rotokawa School Week 8, Term 2, 2020
Kōrero from the Classes
Learning from Room 2 – Science
When Room 2 students were in lockdown, they shared with Mrs Norton that they were interested in Sea Creatures and showing Manaakitanga for the
ocean/land. With this in mind, this week Room 2 were making observations with shells using: I notice (observations), I think (inference) and I wonder. They
identified and compared similarities and differences. As they move forward with this learning, they will delve into scale drawing, measurement, labelling and
ocean esterification (e.g. when we have pollution, it can causes acidity in the water).
Manaaki whenua, Manaaki tangata, Haere whakamua
Care for the land,
Care for the people, Go forward!

Kōrero from the Board of Trustees (BOT)

Name: Talia Wahapango Role: BOT member Children who attend/have attended Rotokawa: Oceanbreeze, Damiah-Rose & Ozias-Reign Tell us a little bit about yourself Ko Putauaki te Maunga, Ko Orini te Awa, Ko Mataatua toe Waka, Ko Ngati Awa, Tuhoe me Whanau-A-Apanui nga iwi. Ko Talia Wahapango toku ingoa.
My partner Gabriel and I have three children at Rotokawa School. Oceanbreeze is 9 in Whaea Lavinia's class, Damiah-Rose is 7 in Mrs Norton’s class and Ozias-Reign is 5 in Mrs Partelow’s class. They have been at Rotokawa for 18 months. We chose Rotokawa as our school when we moved back from the Gold Coast because of the whanaungatanga and school values.
I grew up in Whakatane where I attended St Josephs and Whakatane High Schools. While at high school I travelled to Phillidelphia, Pennsylvania and spent my senior years at Springfield High School. After high school I ventured out into the world and lived all over the place.
We live in Rotoiti and we are so lucky to have the lake as our front door and the bush at the back door. We love staying in Rotoiti because there is a lot to do. On the weekends we enjoy catching up with family, going on bush walks, travelling and hanging out on our bikes and scooters and playing soccer. Why did you want to be on the Rotokawa BOT? I chose to be on the BoT was to have a voice for the parents and to be able to make a difference for our school and our students. Our tamariki are our future and we need to give them the best start at life.
