STATE◦Net Metering◦Select Focus
Project Grants
FEDERAL◦ 30% Tax Credit◦ USDA Grants &
Guaranteed Loans for Farmers and Small Businesses. Renewable energy installations and energy efficient upgrades qualify.

Insufficient Supply◦ In the early 1990’s there was
about 35% reserve capacity on the power grid.
◦ Last year there was only 17% reserve capacity.
◦ Eight coal fired power plants have tried in vain for years to receive building permits.
◦ Forbes, The Associated Press and NextEnergy have recently issued reports warning of brown and blackouts in 2009.
Skyrocketing Prices◦ Rates have increased about 5% a year
for the past several years.◦ In October 2008 Michigan passed a bill
which will increase electric rates even more.
◦ “If you think runaway oil prices are upsetting, just wait for what’s in store for electricity.” Forbes Magazine June 30th 2008.

Local, State and Federal Governments are looking at all means possible to promote renewable energies.
FIT (Feed-In-Tariff)◦ Currently adopted if France and Germany◦ Michigan has a few versions being promulgated
in the state legislature. Goggle House Bill HB 5218
![Page 7: Hartland Power Point](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081603/55773f93d8b42a220f8b4cf5/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
A feed-in-tariff is a law that requires the utility company to purchase from the energy producer any electricity that is put on the grid for a premium over their highest retail rate.◦ HB 5218 lists solar electric power at 65 cents a
kwh. Your rates now are between 6 cents a kwh to 12 cents a khw.
![Page 8: Hartland Power Point](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081603/55773f93d8b42a220f8b4cf5/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
No need for new coal fired power plants. Distributed generation is more efficient. Distributed generation reduces our
exposure to terrorism. Solar electric produces the most power
when the utility companies are most likely to experience brown/blackouts.
![Page 9: Hartland Power Point](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081603/55773f93d8b42a220f8b4cf5/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
The turbines of today are quieter and more powerful than those of yesterday.
The Green Team only uses wind turbines that are made in America.
Michigan has the 14th best wind potential in the country.
![Page 10: Hartland Power Point](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081603/55773f93d8b42a220f8b4cf5/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Most zoning ordinances require you to have enough property where the tower can fall in any direction without hitting a structure, and staying back from the property setback requirements.
The turbine should be a minimum of thirty feet above any obstruction within 300’ radius.
![Page 11: Hartland Power Point](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081603/55773f93d8b42a220f8b4cf5/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Michigan receives 4.2 hours of ‘peak’ sun a day on an annual bases.
Germany receives less sun and is beating their goal of 20% RE by 2020.
The colder a panel is the more voltage it produces.
Panels in Arizona receive more sun but they produce less voltage per hour of peak sun
![Page 12: Hartland Power Point](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081603/55773f93d8b42a220f8b4cf5/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Do I have a good location?
Roof Mounted- South facing roof- No shading from trees or other structures
Awning Mounted- Southern exposure patio - Southern exposure walkway
Pole Mounted- Clear area of your property with no shading
![Page 13: Hartland Power Point](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081603/55773f93d8b42a220f8b4cf5/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Solar panels have completely changed. They can be many things. To name a few
they can be awnings, roofing shingles, panels placed on a roof, or structural roofing panels.
They can add to the esthetics of a house or commercial building.
They even come in a couple different colors.
![Page 14: Hartland Power Point](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081603/55773f93d8b42a220f8b4cf5/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
How can I get heat from the sun on a cold winter day?
How do I get air conditioning from the sun on a hot summer day?
Do they really work?
Is solar thermal a good option for me?
![Page 15: Hartland Power Point](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081603/55773f93d8b42a220f8b4cf5/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Most locations can benefit from at least one form of renewable energy.
Some can benefit from multiple sources of renewable energy.
Solar electric, wind, hydro, solar thermal water heating, solar thermal pool heating, passive solar, solar thermal home heating & air conditioning, can be mixed and matched to optimize the specific resources available.
![Page 16: Hartland Power Point](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081603/55773f93d8b42a220f8b4cf5/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
We inspect over thirty areas for energy loss. You will receive a report on your site, and
how efficient it is in all the areas checked. Improvements will be recommended in order
of potential payback. Different members of The Green Team can
complete all areas of energy improvements. Utility company rebates and tax credits may
apply.
![Page 17: Hartland Power Point](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022081603/55773f93d8b42a220f8b4cf5/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
We look at all systems that use energy, waste energy, or can extend the human benefit of each unit of energy
Examples would be checking the exterior of the building for caulking, door seals, electrical outlets, dampers, hatches.
Passive solar potential.
Can you benefit from heat pumps or solar roof vents?
In the interior we look at insulation of ductwork, water pipes & ceilings.
We look at lighting types. Is natural lighting used enough, what type of artificial lighting are used, Can occupancy sensors save you energy?
