when it was built and what for Built in 1952-1954, Harris Station is the largest hydroelectric dam in the state of Maine.

River mills In the 1950s, over 84,500 cords of wood per year floated through the large log sluice built on the western end of the dam that allowed logs to continue floating to the logging mills downstream.

fishing and hydroelectric power Kennebec Gorge area is well known for its fishing and whitewater opportunities. Harris is an integral part of Maine's hydroelectric generation.

when it was built and who built it Central Maine Power Company built the dam in 1952 and finished it in 1955. When the dam was built, certain people next to Indian Pond had to move from the water edge because of the raising level of the pond.

how it got its name Harris station got its name from Ford Harris who was chief engineer when the dam was created.

how big the dam is The dam stands 175 feet tall and 270 feet across.

when it started being used The dam began operation in october of 1954 when one of its three generators began producing power.

what was the most shocking The most shocking thing to me was that they let out water at a certain time so we can go rafting.
