Stile Antico’s upcoming release centers on Thomas Tallis’s magnifi cent seven-part ‘Christmas’ Mass, based on the festive plainchant Puer natus est (‘A boy is born’). The mass is interspersed with seasonal Tudor music including William Byrd’s exquisite Propers for the fourth Sunday of Advent, responsories by Taverner and Sheppard, Robert White’s exuberant setting of the Magnifi cat and Tallis’s own sublime Videte miraculum.

“Stile Antico continues to set new standards for Renaissance polyphonic singing.” – The Philadelphia Inquirer

Jordi Savall will perform music from his new Alia Vox recording El Nuevo Mundo at concerts in the US in September and October. El Nuevo Mundo features Savall’s striking (and toe-tapping!) realizations of Latin American music from the period of European exploration and discovery.

Jordi Savall takes El Nuevo Mundo on tour

This month, on one of the most highly anticipated new releases of the season, René Jacobs leads the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and a stellar cast of singers in a dazzling recording for harmonia mundi of Mozart’s beloved Magic Flute (p.5). Offered at a special price, this deluxe set from Jacobs and company sheds new light on one of the greatest masterpieces of the operatic repertoire. Another September highlight is undoubtedly the return of Anonymous 4. Scrupulously researched and impeccably performed, The Cherry Tree (p.7) is disc of holiday music featuring Medieval English carols and Anglo-American spiritual songs. Other harmonia mundi priorities include the Arcanto Quartet performing string quartets by Debussy, Ravel and Dutilleux (p.3) and Schumann’s Spanische Liebeslieder sung by Marlis Petersen, Anke Vondung, Werner Güra and Konrad Jarnot (p.4). On Alia Vox, Jordi Savall’s latest megaset focuses on music from the time of the infamous Borgia family. Dinastia Borja (p.9) offers a fascinating survey of music, culture and politics during the Renaissance. Channel Classics continues their survey of the orchestral music of Dvorák with a new SACD of his delightful Slavonic Dances featuring Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra (p.11). Hyperion highlights for September include a disc of Marc-André Hamelin playing his own compositions (p.13) and, just in time for the holidays, a 16-disc boxed set of Angela Hewitt’s solo Bach (p.15). Opera and vocal music lovers will rejoice over Valery Gergiev’s new recording of Wagner’s Parsifal for Mariinsky (p.18), the Portland Opera’s performance of Philip Glass’ Orphée on Orange Mountain (p.19) and the fi nal disc in Michael Tilson Thomas’ Mahler cycle for SFS Media, an album of songs with orchestra (p.21) with Susan Graham and Thomas Hampson. Non-classical priorities include the World Village debut of Cuba’s revered Septeto Nacional (p.25) and a duo album with legendary jazz bassist Eddie Gomez and pianist Cesarius Alvim on Plus Loin (p.33).

Please note: promotional copies are available for priority titles ONLY

Unlike Beethoven and Bartók, both fascinated by the string quartet throughout their creative life, most French composers were cautious in their approach to a formation long associated with the Austro-German tradition. Debussy, Ravel and more recently Dutilleux, all noted for their mastery of orchestration, each visited the genre only once — but with outstanding success. The Arcanto Quartet, which features the talents of cellist Jean Guihen Queyras, violist Tabea Zimmermann and violinists Daniel Sepec and Anje Weithas, proves once again that new musical felicities can always be found in works of true genius.

“Here are musicians who play music as they feel it within themselves, pull you into their orbit of convictions and

offer an uncommon artistic experience.”

The year 1849 was one of Schumann’s most prolifi c. The inspiration for his Spanische Liebeslieder and Spanische Liederspiel was an anthology of Spanish texts translated by Emanuel Geibel. These short love poems were ideal material for music in the tangy ‘Spanish’ style tinged with the colors of central Europe. Considerably more intimate, the Minnespiel takes us from storybook Spain to German Romanticism. These charming and evocative works, ranging from solo songs to quartets, are sung here by a world-class quartet of singers — soprano Marlis Petersen, mezzo Akne Vondung, tenor Werner Güra and bass-baritone Konrad Jarnot.

The year’s most eagerly anticipated opera recording has fi nally arrived: Mozart’s Die Zauberfl öte conducted by René Jacobs. The great Belgian maestro’s previous Mozart opera recordings have won the industry’s highest awards — from Gramophone’s ‘Record of the Year’ to a 2004 GRAMMY® award for Le nozze di Figaro. This new recording represents the culmination of Jacobs’ Mozart opera series. After showing us a different way of looking at the Da Ponte trilogy and taking a profoundly innovative approach to the two great opere serie, Jacobs ‘magically’ unifi es the complex artistic and psychological aspects of Die Zauberfl öte. Scholar, artist, alchemist — Jacobs fuses the opposing strands of Mozart’s tale of light and dark, fi re and water, the heavens and the Earth, heroes and villains and comedy and drama into a performance as enchanting as it is profound. The set’s luxury package includes a 314 page booklet with a full libretto in German, English and French. Die Zauberflöte will benefit from a diverse and comprehensive online and social media marketing campaign, including a multi-lingual “Magic Flute Discovery” newsletter series and dedicated blog.

“ René Jacobs’ Mozart opera recordings are among the most hotly discussed classical sets of recent years. Revelations are everywhere.”— THE PHILADELPHIA

SACD Hybrid/ Stereo & Multi-channel/ DSDBack in the studio after a four year haitus, Anonymous 4 returns with The Cherry Tree — an instant holiday music classic featuring medieval English carols and Anglo-American spiritual songs. It is the eighteenth original recording for the renowned vocal ensemble and their fi rst since 2006’s Gloryland, which debuted at number three on the Billboard classical chart. Anonymous 4 has been a perennial presence on Billboard’s Top Classical Albums chart and hit number one with their folk-inspired American Angels in 2004. The Cherry Tree is named after the miracle ballad of Joseph and Mary, the earliest text of which survives from a Coventry Play from around 1400. The ‘Cherry Tree’ story persisted in many forms, making its way into medieval British carols of the mid-15th century and into British and American traditional ballads. In it, Joseph doubts the divine origin of Mary’s pregnancy only to hear Jesus speak from within Mary’s womb, causing a cherry tree to bend its branches and offer his mother its fruit. The 2011-12 season marks Anonymous 4’s 25th anniversary and the group will be on tour in the US this fall.

ADVANCE REVIEW“Anonymous 4’s trademark vocal blend, with its sparing use of vibrato and its careful dynamic

gradations within phrases, suits this music beautifully. And three solo ‘ballad-carols,’ along with the Americanized ‘Cherry Tree Carol,’ showed that the singers are as powerful and communicative on

their own as they are together.”— THE NEW YORK TIMES

“Despite the scholarship behind the notes, these four American artists render everything with the

shimmering beauty, flawless intonation and vibrant projection that have made them a genuine

phenomenon on the early music scene.”— SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER

“Hearing Anonymous 4 is about as close as you’re going to get on this earth to hearing angels sing.”

SACD Hybrid/ Stereo & Multi-channel/ DSDLarge format packaging, 7.5” x 5.5”To coincide with the 500th anniversary of the birth of Saint Francis Borgia, Fourth Duke of Gandia, Jordi Savall and Alia Vox offer this visually lavish and artistically comprehensive multi-disc set entitled Dinastia Borja (The Borgia Dynasty). It features a broad selection of music of the time, including works by composers such as Isaac, Dufay and Morales. For fi ve centuries, scholars have studied and debated the role of the Borgias in Renaissance history. Although their name is synonymous with Papal corruption and they were undoubtedly malevolent and immoral, as patrons of the arts, the Borgias were also instrumental in the period’s explosive growth of culture. The fascinating story of their life and legacy (both good and evil) still has the power to inspire the imagination. With this dramatic historical and artistic backdrop, Savall and his fellow musicians draw listeners into the fascinating musical world of the time, shedding new light on this unique (and at times bloody) era in Western history.

The twenty-one Nocturnes cover the whole of Chopin’s creative life: his troubled youth in Warsaw, his loves, then his later years, moving towards abstraction. The last four are among the most beautiful works of the composer’s entire output. Pianist Pascal Amoyel brings a unique affi nity for French music, top-fl ight virtuosity and a keen musical insight to these gems of the romantic repertoire.

Channel Classics’ series of recordings with the Ebony Band is continued with a disc containing works by the Polish composers Józef Koffler and Konstanty Regamey. The repertoire here is virtually unknown but remarkably interesting and appealing. The quintet by Regamey is a live recording and the cantata Die Liebe by Koffl er features soprano Barbara Hannigan, well-known for her fi rst class performances of contemporary music.

SACD Hybrid/ Stereo & Multi-channel/ DSDViolinist Ning Feng’s previous releases on Channel, featuring works by Chinese composers, have shown him to be an impressive musician — blessed with the technique of a true virtuoso. This disc of core works from the repertoire of for solo violin, with works by Paganini, Kreisler and Schnittke, will only enhance his growing reputation as a rising star of his instrument. Channel’s surround-sound recording allows the music and the performances to speak for themselves.

SACD Hybrid/ Stereo & Multi-channel/ DSDIn these sixteen highly varied and colorful dances, Dvorák offers stylized, even idealized dance fantasias that intermingle folk elements with his own inspired melodies so effectively, so disarmingly and so artistically that for the most part they have defi ed attempts by musicologists to uncover the folk sources. Whereas the fi rst set had featured predominantly Czech dances, the second set of Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances is more broadly Slavonic, incorporating Slovak, Polish, Serbian and Russian elements in addition to Dvorák’s favorite melancholy dumka strains. A reissue of Iván Fischer’s original recording for Philips, this SACD makes a welcome return to the active catalogue.

In 1931 the pianist and muse Harriet Cohen invited all her principal composer friends each to make an arrangement of a work by J S Bach for inclusion in an album to be published by Oxford University Press. Published as A Bach Book for Harriet Cohen, it is recorded here for the fi rst time by virtuoso pianist Jonathan Plowright. The disc is completed by eight other 20th century British Bach transcriptions. Featured composers include Bantock, Bax, Howells, Vaughan Williams and Walton.

Jonathan Dove’s beautiful choral works have made him into a household name among professional and amateur singers alike. His writing is eminently approachable yet highly original. The Missa brevis is the most recent work to be recorded here and was commissioned by the Cathedral Organists’ Association for their conference in May 2009 and fi rst performed by the Wells Cathedral Choir under Matthew Owens’ direction. The same forces have recorded it here along with a delectable selection of Dove’s anthems.

Hamelin plays Hamelin: a glimpse into the fabulously bizarre musical mind of one of the greatest piano virtuosos of today. Marc-André Hamelin’s twelve Études, written over a period of nearly twenty-fi ve years, have already achieved cult status by reputation as pianistic challenges beyond the reach of most human fingers. That they will immediately take their place in the concert repertoire of any pianist who thinks themself equal to them is indicated by their contemporaneous publication by Peters Edition New York. The disc is completed by more of Hamelin’s compositions, including the quiet and refl ective Con intissimo sentimento and the musical love poem Cathy’s Variations. As a whole it is a detailed portrait of this talented and complex musician.

MOZARTString Quintets Nos.1-6Nash Ensemble, Philip Dukes (viola)Hyperion • CDA 67861

The relatively novel instrumental combination which Mozart used for his string quintets (employing two violas) seems to have been inspired by a work by his friend and colleague Michael Haydn. Throughout his life Mozart loved the dusky sonority of the viola, always his instrument of choice when he played chamber music with friends. Beyond that, prompted by Michael Haydn’s charming, lightweight Notturno, he was evidently eager to explore a medium that enabled him to indulge his fondness for dark, saturated textures and rich inner-part writing. The complete String Quintets make up an enchanting body of chamber music, recorded here in a 3-disc set by the peerless Nash Ensemble.

Original releases remain availableSchumann’s songs are among the greatest musical achievements of the nineteenth century, and this is the perfect release with which to mark the composer’s 200th birthday. This marvelous collection comprises Schumann’s complete songs, presented for the fi rst time in their chronological sequence of composition, with complete song texts and a chronology of Schumann’s life and songs by Graham Johnson. Johnson is, of course, also the curator and unifying musical force of this series, accompanying his hand-picked selection of singers — some of the greatest lieder performers of today, and indeed of tomorrow — with utter sensitivity.

Previously Available as CDA 66551 (034571165516) Deleted September 2010Davitt Moroney spent more than fi fteen years planning this unique and momentous project. Six different instruments were used for the recording: two different harpsichords, a muselar virginal, a clavichord, a chamber organ and the Ahrend organ at L’Église-Musée des Augustins. The huge and high nave there creates an echo that lasts for nearly fi fteen seconds, not unlike the acoustic at Lincoln Cathedral where Byrd was the organist and master of the choristers. Originally released in 1999, this set garnered a Gramophone Award and was named one Classic CD’s top 100 discs of the decade.

These trios, originally for baryton, are recorded here for the fi rst time on basset horn. They come from the prodigious series that Haydn wrote for Prince Nicolaus Esterházy, an enthusiastic baryton player. In a spirit comparable to that of Mozart’s divertimenti for three basset horns, the warm, mellow sound of these instruments proves the perfect vehicle for revealing Haydn’s extraordinarily imaginative writing. Also included is the Adagio from trio No.123, played on glass harmonica in homage to Mozart’s Adagio K617 for that same instrument.

SACD Hybrid/ Stereo & Multi-channel/ DSDThe Mariinsky label’s first r e c o rd i n g o f a Wa g n e r opera features an exceptional international cast led by René Pape , Gary Lehman and

Violeta Urmana. The Mariinsky Theatre has a long association with Wagner’s music. The composer himself conducted at the theatre, which in 1863 was the location of the fi rst performance of music from his as yet unstaged Ring Cycle. Over the past decade, Valery Gergiev has established a formidable reputation as a Wagner conductor, although remarkably this is his fi rst recording of a Wagner opera. The composer described Parsifal, his fi nal complete opera, as ‘A Festival Play for the Consecration of the Stage.’ Inspired by Wolfram von Eschenbach’s Arthurian poem Parzifal, the work has always sparked controversy, mixing moral and religious themes with music of irresistible sumptuousness. The ‘harmonic experiments’ that he adopted for his previous opera, Tristan und Isolde, are further refi ned to create music of astonishing beauty that still retains and refl ects the deep morality of the tale.

A Philip Glass opera première

Orange Mountain Music presents the world premiere recording of Philip Glass’ opera Orphée, performed by a renowned cast of soloists including Philip Cutlip as Orphée, Lisa Saffer as la Princesse and the Portland Opera Orchestra conducted by Anne Manson. Written in 1993, Orphée was the fi rst of a trilogy of operas that Glass composed on subjects by Jean Cocteau that includes La Belle et la Bête and Les Enfants Terribles. Orphée is the last to the trilogy to be recorded, and receives fi ne treatment here with a Michael Riesman produced recording made from a series of live performances that took place in November 2009. This two-disc set includes a deluxe digipack, full libretto in French and English, color production photos and cast and performer biographies. The storyline is based on Cocteau’s fascinating retelling of the Orpheus myth - an extended parable on the life of an artist, a poet harassed and misunderstood by peers.

Orange Mountain Music presents the debut recording by the newly-formed Glass Chamber Players — a group of virtuoso soloists including artistic director and cellist Wendy Sutter, violinists Tim Fain and Maria Bachmann, violists Misha Amory and David Harding and cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach. The disc features Schoenberg’s 1899 masterpiece Verklärte Nacht (Transfi gured Night) for string sextet, paired with Philip Glass’ four-movement Symphony No.3 transcribed for string sextet. This is the fi rst of a series of recordings pairing Philip Glass’ music with masterpieces of the classical repertoire.

SACD Hybrid/ Stereo & Multi-channel/ DSDJanacek left only a few piano masterpieces, their language forming a sort of dreamlike counterpoint to his fantastic operatic repertoire. Slávka Pechocová’s playing reflects the rigor of her fi rst teacher, Martin Hrsel, and the almost-Impressionistic expressiveness of her second, Ivan Moravec. This highly spirited, recording of Janacek’s piano pieces shows off the best of both of these key aspects of her playing style. A rising star, Pechocová made her Proms debut last year with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Jirí Belohlávek in Martinu’s Concerto for 2 Pianos.

SACD Hybrid/ Stereo & Multi-channel/ DSDViolinist, pianist, conductor and composer, Ernest Bloch had to live between two worlds: his native Europe, torn by wars and anti-Semitism, and the American mirage offering successes as glorious as they were short-lived. This disc of works for cello and piano featuring cellist Michal Kanka and pianist Miguel Borges Coelho features the fi rst recording since 1952 of the original version of Voice in the Wilderness, a little-known work written twenty years after the famous Schelomo, which exists in two versions: a dialogue between piano and cello, and setting with orchestral accompaniment.

SACD Hybrid/ Stereo & Multi-channel/ DSDThe San Francisco Symphony’s GRAMMY®-winning Mahler recording cycle, launched in 2001 on its own SFS Media label, comes to a close this season with this release, focusing on Mahler’s songs with orchestra. The album features Susan Graham performing the Rückert-Lieder and Thomas Hampson performing the Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and selections from Des Knaben Wunderhorn. The release coincides with a worldwide celebration of the music of Mahler — 2010 is the 150th anniversary of Mahler’s birth, and 2011 marks the 100th year of Mahler’s death. Michael Tilson Thomas’ Mahler cycle has won seven GRAMMY® Awards, including three for Best Classical Album. The San Francisco Symphony will commemorate the completion of their ambitious recording cycle by introducing a boxed set of the complete recordings and, for the collector, a deluxe, limited edition version of the set on vinyl. Further details about these collections will be forthcoming.

Carl Schuricht conducted 80 concerts in France between 1949 and 1965 (54 of which in Paris). The programs highlight two particularities: an overdose of German composers, notably Beethoven and Brahms, and a total absence of French composers. The present concerts issued for the fi rst time were recorded at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées of Paris in February 1955 (Brahms) and in March 1959 (Beethoven with the Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau as soloist).

This recording was made In the Hamburg Music Hall in March 1950, and then appeared in the American label Royale with false information regarding the interpreters (pseudonyms). It is a surprisingly “modern” interpretation by Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt, far from the bombastic romanticism of so many of his contemporaries, but it also with the courage not to restrict the soloists in their expressiveness. It suffers from none of the anemia than is found in some historically accurate performances.

Monophonic; both discs contain the same materialThis fascinating release from Testament features a live performance from 1951 with Otto Klemperer leading the Vienna Symphony in Mahler’s Resurrection symphony. Recorded in mono, the work fi ts on one disc — however, Testament offers a unique bonus. A second disc features the same recording, this time with ambient mastering. Ambient mastering utilizes very small frequency delays to give a sense of space and width to a mono, or very narrow stereo, recording. The amount of processing is determined by the mastering engineer. No artifi cial reverberation is added in this process, so that the natural acoustic of the original remains largely unaltered.

Reimann’s opera Melusine was inspired by a 1920 story by Yvan Groll written on the occasion of his wife’s mourning the closing of a nearby park. The composer skillfully combines Groll’s story with the Melusine myth. Melusine, an earth spirit, has the power to fi ght for the protection of nature. Here, she tries to protect her beloved environment from being rebuilt as a castle. Of course, love complicates her quest, forcing her to make a fateful choice. Reimann’s second opera, Melusine was premiered at the Schwetzingen Festival in 1971. It is performed here by a fi ne cast supported by Peter Hirsch leading the Nürnberger Philharmoniker.

File In: World / MoroccoOrchestre National de Barbès was formed in 1995 by Youcef Boukella, composer and bass player. The group preaches a multicultural philosophy, and its music is a funky, raw blend of rock, gnawa, raï, salsa, chââbi, reggae, alaoui and jazz. Barbés is not in Morocco, but rather in Paris, a neighborhood near Sacre Coeur that has become a refuge for exiles from north Africa. In English, the band’s name means The National Barbés Orchestra — implying that Barbés is a nation unto itself. It is a sentiment that few who have visited Barbés would dispute.

Originally formed in 1927 by legendary bassist/singer Ignacio Piñeiro, this GRAMMY®-nominated ensemble remains a sophisticated, arrestingly inventive exponent of son habanero, as can be heard on this new recording of rumbas, boleros and guarachas. Septeto Nacional’s US tour launches August 28 at NYC’s Hostos Center for the Arts and runs through September with several dates at Yoshi’s San Francisco and the Monterey Jazz Festival before heading north in October and November. They’re back in the states in March/April 2011 with a string of dates culminating with a concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall on April 16th.

APO’s SACD transfers of these classic Nat King Cole albums were a labor of love. A no-expenses-spared project, each disc features never-before-heard material, from unreleased tracks to rich, true multi-channel stereo sound. Using the original tapes from Capitol’s vaults, mastering engineers Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman and DSD specialist Gus Skinas bring you an entirely incomparable SACD experience. Nat King Cole and arranger Gordon Jenkins followed their hit album Love Is The Thing with The Very Thought of You. Original releases contained fourteen tracks, omitting two superb songs recorded for the album due to space constraints. Space constraints in authoring this disc again prevent these two tracks from being included on the CD layer of this disc. However the SACD layer features all sixteen tracks in mono and stereo — the very fi rst ever release of the original mono versions of “Don’t Blame Me” and “There Is No Greater Love.” Love is the Thing topped the charts upon its release. On APO’s deluxe SACD version, both mono and stereo versions are available in standard resolution on the CD layer and in high resolution on the DSD stereo layer, while the stereo versions are also available in 3-channel high resolution on the DSD multi-channel layer. All tracks except 5 and 6 playable as mono, stereo or multi-channel. Tracks 5 and 6 are mono only and are not included on the multi-channel layer. These albums stand among their era’s fi nest — stylistically defi nitive recordings of popular music that continue to enchant listeners to this day.

These two albums make a beautiful addition to the Miles Davis SACD catalog. Recorded over the course of three days in April 1961, Someday My Prince Will Come showcases Miles’ second great rhythm section, here at the absolute peak of their telepathic interplay. Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb were as tight a unit as any ever formed, grooving so successfully that they went on to leave Miles and form the Wynton Kelly Trio. The album features some positively blistering solos from guest John Coltrane in his fi nal recording with Miles. At the time he recorded Seven Steps to Heaven, Miles was in the process of forming a new band. 1963 was a transitional point in his career, as he was without a regular group and wondering what his future musical direction would be. The album was recorded at two separate sessions with different personnel and features George Coleman on tenor, Victor Feldman and Herbie Hancock on pianos, bassist Ron Carter and Frank Butler and Tony Williams on drums.

SACD Hybrid/ Stereo/ DSDFile In: JazzBassist Paul Chambers’ work with Miles Davis and other jazz greats was both distinctive and highly infl uential. Growing from his role in the Davis band, Chambers played in two amazing rhythm sections. The fi rst, with Red Garland and Philly Joe Jones, came to be known as “The Rhythm Section,” and was featured on a celebrated album by saxophonist Art Pepper. The second, with Wynton Kelly and Jimmy Cobb, made albums with John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery, and by themselves as the Wynton Kelly Trio. Chambers’ session work can be heard on such classic albums as Thelonious Monk’s Brilliant Corners, Coltrane’s Giant Steps and Oliver Nelson’s The Blues and the Abstract Truth. Whims of Chambers, his fi rst solo album, features an amazing lineup of John Coltrane, Donald Byrd, Kenny Burrell, Horace Silver and Philly Joe Jones. SACD Hybrid/ Stereo/ DSDFile In: JazzA consummate sideman, guitarist Kenny Burrell has recorded with a wide range of prominent musicians. He has also led his own groups since 1951 and can be heard on over forty albums. His infl uences as a guitar player include Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt and Wes Montgomery. Burrell made his debut recording as a member of Dizzy Gillespie’s sextet in 1951. As of 2007, he has served as Director of Jazz Studies at UCLA. Burrell’s classic Midnight Blue from 1963 features Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone, Major Holley on double bass, Bill English on drums and Ray Barretto on conga. It is one of Burrell’s best-known albums for Blue Note and is one of the label’s best-sounding efforts. The great Alfred Lion considered this his favorite production.

File In: JazzEvan Christopher, one of the greatest jazz clarinetists of recent times, delves even deeper into his project uniting the legacies of New Orleans jazz and the Gypsy Swing of Django Reinhardt. Finesse is a refi ned synthesis of aesthetics celebrating both the infectious spirit of European Gypsy Swing as well as the contribution of Creole cultures to American music and jazz.

File In: JazzAfter touring internationally for two years — 200 concerts, each one a triumph — and showing that good pop also has swing, the tireless band Pink Turtle is back, with thirteen new classics tastily disguised by these swing masters. On Back Again, Pink Turtle is joined by special guest-artists Morgane Imbeaud, Didier Lockwood, Jean-Jacques Milteau & André Minvielle. The band’s fi rst CD has been one of the Frémeaux label’s bestsellers in jazz for the last two years.

File In: JazzLegendary bassist Eddie Gomez has been on the cutting edge of music for over four decades. A Latin GRAMMY® award-winner, his impressive résumé includes performances with jazz giants such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Bill Evans, Gerry Mulligan and Benny Goodman. Gomez’s unique sound and style can be heard on hundreds of recordings spanning the worlds of jazz, classical, Latin jazz and R & B. Brazil-born, France-based pianist, bassist and composer Cesarius Alvim possesses similarly impressive jazz credentials, having played with (among others) the likes of Lee Konitz, Martial Solal and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Forever, a striking new bass and piano duet album from Plus Loin, marks the reunion of these two great artists after a twenty year hiatus. Its eleven tracks feature a mix of standards and originals by Alvim, and each cut exemplifi es the almost magical blends and contrasts found in Gomez and Alvim’s unique improvisations.
