In the Beginning….

• The County Endowment Fund was established by the 2004 Legislature to provide state financial support to encourage the creation and development of community foundations throughout Iowa.

• ½ of 1% of gaming revenues

• Divided by all counties that do NOT have gaming facilities

• 75% given annually for grants to county non-profit organizations

• 25% put into permanent county endowment

Who Reviews the Grant Applications…

• The Hardin County Community Endowment Foundation Board reviews all grant applications.

• Grants recommended for funding are sent to the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation Executive Committee for final action and disbursement of funds.

What We DO NOT Support….

• Current operating expenses

• Annual and capital campaigns

• Budget deficits, reduction of debts, completed projects, endowments, individuals, or religious purposes

• We do not give multi-grants to the same organization or give grants to organizations with open grants not completed

Grant Applications are Available….

• Each year in November on the Hardin County Extension Service website at www.extension.iastate.edu/hardin/ or copies may be picked up at each community’s City Hall.

• Fifteen copies of the completed application form must be returned to the Foundation no later than February 2, 2007, via any of the following means:

• Mail to P.O. Box 2, Eldora, IA 50627 - post marked no later than Friday, February 2

• Personally deliver to the Hardin County Extension Service, Iowa Falls, or the Hardin County Auditor’s Office in the Court House by 4 p.m. on Friday, February 2

• Applications submitted after the February 2 deadline will not be considered.

Grant Application Information Hardin County Community Endowment Foundation

• The maximum grant is $5,000, not to exceed 50% of the total project cost.

• Grant requests may be wholly or partially funded.

• Projects funded should not duplicate initiatives already undertaken by other non-profit agencies.

• All grant applicants will be notified as to their approval or denial.

• Grants will be presented to recipients at a county-wide Awards Night.

• Organizations receiving grants must sign an Agreement Form

• Indicating the grant recipient’s willingness to use the funds awarded for the purpose requested within 9 months

• File a final report

• Give the Hardin County Community Endowment Foundation credit in all media releases

• Provide proof of purchase for total project costs (grant monies spent & 50% of matching funds) within 9 months of grant distribution

• Submit written request for extension if project is incomplete after 9 months

• Return any portion of the grant monies not used for the designated purpose within 12 months of the grant award

Letter of Application:

Please address the following discussion points in the HCCEF Application, limiting the letter to two pages (12-point font, l-inch margins). Please type the questions as stated below for each number before you begin to provide your answers.

1) Describe your organization’s mission or charitable purpose, its program activities and population served.

2) Describe your organization’s history (year it was organized) and major accomplishments, concentrating on the last two years.

3) Describe the community needs/problems being addressed by this project.

4) Describe the proposed project and its date of completion.

5) Discuss how this project will benefit the community. Give an estimated number of individuals benefiting from your project and describe the community support for it.

6) How will you evaluate and measure the results of the project? Include how news of the project will be publicized and/or recognized?

7) Is this a one-time project? If not, describe the long-term plan for sustainability of the project.

8) List collaborating partners and the amounts they are contributing to the project. List other funding secured, applied for, and proposed for the project. List all “in-kind” contributions, such as volunteer hours (valued at $18/hour) and materials.

• Project budget -- on separate page provide a breakdown of costs and expenses for the total cost of the project.

• No more than 2 pages of optional supporting materials
