Puppet Play
We played with the puppets, we have to put our hand in the puppets.
Joshua
Some of the children have shown an interest in puppets and puppet making since we explored shadow puppets and Wayang Kulit in week eight. This week the children discovered how to manipulate a hand puppet and they learnt some simple puppetry skills to create a short dialogue with a partner.
The children were asked to keep their aNen<on on their puppets as they made their puppets sing, cry, yawn, scream, laugh and talk. They were also encouraged to change their voice and think of a name for their puppet. Each puppet was then introduced to the rest of the class before exploring simple improvisa<ons with other puppets.
We were lucky to have two Year 9 students Jess and Micky visit during this session and the children enjoyed crea<ng puppet shows with their new friends from the senior school.
Puppetry is a wonderful technique for allowing children who are o[en reluctant to perform in front of their peers an opportunity to express their ideas and crea<vity.
If your child has a puppet from home they are invited to bring it in to share during class <me.

Happy Birthday Alessia!
I’m 5! I’m having a zombie party ‘cause I like creepy things. I got some of these jeans, they’re pink and
they’ve got black spots on them. And I got a Ager dress with a crown. They were from my Mum and Dad. My Grandma and Grandpa Sandy and James and
Bubba and Gigi bought me a lot of stuff. I’m geKng it tonight and the aLernoon. My Dad’s gonna get me a big, big, big present! But somethings inside it but I don’t know. I said “Dad, can I please get some high
heels?” and he said “Yes!” I’m gonna have every colour! I said “Can I get a bunny rabbit Dad?” and he said “No.”

We made a Mr Clumsy book up! Lucas On Thursday we were fortunate to have Lucas’ Aunty Jane visit the ELC and spend part of her morning with us. She worked with a small group of children to write a story from which they
could then create relevant puppets to act it out. This is in connec<on to the children’s developing interests in puppetry following several drama sessions exploring the art form as
well as observa<ons of the children independently making their own s<ck-‐puppets.
They started the process by reading a ‘Mr Men’ book about Mr Clumsy and then decided on what adventure could come next.
Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework Outcome 5 - Communication
Children engage with a range of texts and gain meaning from these texts.
Mr Clumsy Shopping in the Supermarket
Once upon a time My Clumsy rode his bike to the supermarket. Instead of stopping he
accidentally rode straight into the supermarket. He shot into the stack of cans, bashed into the shelves and then flew off his bike into the bin. He had to walk home with the bin on his head. At home he banged his head and make himself a cup of tea which was hard to drink through his bandages.
