Product Announcement Halliburton Expands Water Conservation Capabilities in Key Shale Activity Areas Houston Jan 16, 2012 Operators working in the Permian Basin, the Niobrara Shale and the Eagle Ford Shale can now take advantage of enhanced capabilities to reduce the amount of fresh water used for hydraulic fracturing while at the same time reducing their overall cost for water-related services. Halliburton is now offering enhanced water management services in these areas. These services include several aspects of water conservation, including recycling and reusing flowback and produced water, while also adding the ability to provide fresh water as needed in certain high-activity areas. This enhanced capability will help enable operators optimize their water use and well economics. Halliburton’s water conservation initiative is focused on reducing the amount of fresh water used in fracturing, with the eventual goal of eliminating the need for fresh water for fracturing. This expanded service has been made possible by Halliburton’s investment in technology, water-related equipment and facilities, and development of high- performance fracturing fluid systems that can be formulated with recycled or produced water. In addition to recycling, Halliburton can also supply the volume of fresh water needed to supplement available recycled water and can manage the transport and storage of the required water volume. Additional services will be available as soon as the facilities can be completed. Halliburton’s approach to water management is based on consideration of all the costs involved in the entire water cycle related to fracturing, including, for example, acquisition, transport, storage, conditioning, flowback water treatment, recycling and disposal. Halliburton will be able to manage all these aspects to help reduce operators’ overall water costs and the operators’ dependency upon fresh water resources. The primary technology involved in recycling flowback and produced water is our CleanWave ® service. CleanWave service uses electrocoagulation to remove suspended solids from water making it into a clear brine suitable for fracturing and other wellsite applications. CleanWave service units are deployed in most major activity areas across North America. Halliburton’s Total Water Management Solutions (TMWS) water supply points are currently operating in Weld County, Colorado; Wilson County, Texas; and Lea and Eddy Counties in New Mexico. These locations enable Halliburton to serve a significant number of operators in those regions. Halliburton’s water service is available to operators using any service company.
