TOOL OVERVIEW GUIDING PRINCIPLES COMPLIANCE FOR DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE BUILDINGS Green Building Initiative’s (GBI) Department of Defense Guiding Principles Compliance for New Construction & Modernization (DOD GPC NC) is designed specifically to aid DOD construction and major renovation project teams to verify compliance with the federal Guiding Principles. Developed with and for the Department of Defense, GBI’s DOD GPC NC program validates compliance with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 1-200-02 “High Performance and Sustainable Building Requirements.” When a building meets the requirements of UFC 1-200-02, it is considered compliant with the Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings (HPSB Guiding Principles). 1 DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE BUILDINGS Guiding Principles Compliance for Why Choose GBI’s DOD Guiding Principles Compliance for New Construction Program? Third-party Assessor who works with the project team from design through construction completion, answers questions and offers guidance, and performs an on-site review to verify compliance. Built-in process for identifying requirements that are not applicable, or that may partially comply (due to LCCE) Meets requirements with minimal disruption to each agency’s core mission. Contributes to agencies’ annual progress complying with the Guiding Principles for High Performance and Sustainable Buildings. Registration is discounted up to 25% for orders placed by the DOD. Each DOD GPC NC assessment includes: GBI staff support to ensure a timely and seamless verification process. Simple-to-use Excel-based (offline) survey used by project team and Assessor. Collaboration with a highly trained Assessor which will respond within 24 hours by email or phone. Either Third-party On-Site Assessment or Post Construction Document Review to verify compliance. Detailed report outlining compliance status and recommendations per each individual UFC requirement. Supplemental tools to enhance and clarify the Guiding Principles Compliance process, including dedicated technical reference manuals. Program Eligibility

• The Federal Government must be the owner or lessee (special considerations for local or state government)

• The building must be at least 5,000 square feet in size

• New construction project may be occupied <18 months
