Guide to completing the UK online Tier 4 Application Form

Please note that these fees are correct as at 10/08/2017 however the Home Office may change these periodically.
You must be applying from within the UK to use this application form.
The ribbon at the top of the page shows the different sections of the online application.
When you have completed each section of the form select ‘Save and continue’ to proceed to the next section
You should not have any other Home Office applications active and if you do they will be invalidated when this application is submitted.
You can view and edit your previous answers by clicking here at any stage during your application.
You should answer this question ‘No’ unless you have independent legal representation.
Please keep your password safe as you will need to use it to access your application form again should you leave it at any time.

If you are applying with your dependents then you must add them to the application form by clicking here. You will then need to answer questions for each dependent you are applying with.
You are only eligible to bring dependents to the UK if you are studying a postgraduate course of at least 12 months in duration or if you are studying a course of longer than six months and you are sponsored by your Government.
You should enter your name(s) as they appear on your Passport.
You will then be asked whether you have ever had any other names. Include details of any other names you may have had or that you are officially known by. For example if you are married you may have had a different name in the past.
You now need to enter a contact telephone number and your UK address.
You can either enter your address manually or enter your postcode and select the correct address from a list.
You can also choose to have your mail delivered to an alternate address. We would recommend that you have mail delivered to the University.
When you select this option and enter these details we will contact you as soon as any documents arrive for you so that you can collect them

On the next two pages please check all your personal details against your Passport and CAS/CAS letter to ensure they are completely accurate.

Enter your place of birth as it appears in your Passport.
The next section of the form asks you to provide information from your Passport or provide a reason why you are unable to do so.
Your date of birth will now appear here.
You should answer ‘Yes’ to this question as you should currently have leave to remain in the UK to be making an application in country.
When you select ‘Yes’ the drop down list will appear.
Select the appropriate category from the drop-down list. For most students this will be ‘Tier 4 (General) leave to remain’.
You would only answer ‘Yes’ to this question if you had previously held a visa that had been cancelled due to early completion of a course, interruption to studies or withdrawal from a course of study prior to completing it.

This question is not asking whether you have ever had a visa application refused before.
It is asking whether you have ever had a visa cancelled after it has been issued which for most applicants will mean you should answer ‘No’.
You should answer ‘Yes’ if your most recent or current leave to remain is Tier 4 (General) Leave to remain which should be the case for most applicants.
You should only answer ‘No’ if you are switching to Tier 4 (General) leave to remain from another visa category.
Leave, or leave to remain, is the Government term for having permission to be in the United Kingdom.
You must answer this question ‘Yes’ if you were required to register with the Police as a condition of your current leave. Your visa ‘vignette’ (sticker in your passport) would have stated Police Registration if you were required to register. Alternatively if your current leave was applied for from within the United Kingdom the letter you received from the Home Office would have told you to register with the police.
If you are required to register with police by selecting ‘Yes’ you will need to include your Police Registration Certificate with your visa application.
Typically students from the following countries are required to register with the Police:
Afghanistan, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Palestine, Peru, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Yemen.
This section asks you to confirm the type of visa you currently hold.
This is a Biometric Residency Permit (BRP). If you have your BRP once you select ‘Yes’ the drop down box will ask you to enter your permit number.
This is an Entry Clearance Visa (ECV). If your entire leave is covered by your ECV click here.
If you were issued with a BRP but it has been lost/stolen or is with UKVI click here.
A national Insurance number is related to working in the UK. It is a number that you would have had to apply for if you were intending to work in the UK. Please note that it is not related to either health or travel insurance

Tier 4 (Child) student visas are for those between 4 and 17 years of age studying at an independent School in the UK. If you have not been in this category select ‘No.’
The next section of the application asks you about your English language abilityYou should select ‘Yes’ here as this information will be included in your CAS/CAS letter from the University
The next question asks whether you have ever had any immigration problems when applying for leave to remain in the UK. In most cases the answer will be ‘No’ but you must answer honestly if you have ever experienced immigration problems.

This is asking whether you have ever received public fund in the UK such as child or housing benefit. In most cases this would not be the case and you should select ‘No’ to this question.
If you have ever received any criminal or civil convictions in the UK or any other country you need to declare them here. If you have not received any convictions then you select ‘No, I have never had any of these.’
For most students the answers to these questions will be ‘No’ but you must answer them honestly.
You should enter ‘Yes’ here if you are studying at Main Campus in Preston.
All applicants should enter the details exactly as on this form.
If your CAS/CAS letter has a UCAS number in the Student Details sections then select ‘Yes.’ If you do not know what UCAS is and do not have a UCAS number on your CAS select ‘No.‘
If have a UCAS number select ‘Yes’ and enter it here.
If have a ATAS number select ‘Yes’ and enter it here.
If your CAS/CAS letter has ATAS indicted in the Course Details Select ‘Yes’ otherwise select ‘No.’
An Official financial sponsor can only be one of the following: Her Majesty’s Government, your home government, the British Council, an international organisation, and international company, a university, a UK independent School.
You should select ‘Yes’ if you are being sponsored by or have been sponsored within the last 12 months for Tuition Fees/ Maintenance by an official sponsor. You should select ‘No’ if you are self financing.
If you are being sponsored you need to select the appropriate option to confirm how can demonstrate this.
If you are using your own bank statement to meet the maintenance requirements of your visa application select ‘Yes.’
If you are using your parent’s bank statement to meet the maintenance requirements of your visa application select ‘No.’You must also provide the following documents with your application: your birth certificate (or other legal document), a letter of permission from your parents to use the funds for study in the UK.

The qualification will be in the Course Details section of your CAS/CAS letter and are as follows: RQF5/ SCQF8 – Foundation course, RQF6/ SCQF9/10 – Undergraduate, RQF7/ SCQF 11 – Masters and RQF8/ SCQF12 – Mphil/PhD
The Course name is in the Course details section of your CAS/CAS letter .
Your Course start and end dates are in the Course details section of your CAS/CAS letter
For most students you should select ‘No.’ Only PhD students who are about to complete their Award would select ‘Yes’ to this question.
You should only answer ‘Yes’ to this question if you are going to be living in Halls of Residence that are owned by the University of Central Lancashire. In this case the information regarding any fees that you have paid towards your accommodation will be on the Fees and Accommodation section of your CAS/CAS letter and you need to also select the option confirming this.
If you have not made any payments towards your University Accommodation or will be living in private accommodation you need to select ‘No.’
This means one year’s course fees, or the total fee if your course is shorter than 12 months and this information will be in the Accommodation and Fees section of your CAS/CAS letter.
If any of your tuition fees have already been paid you need to select ‘Yes’. Otherwise select ‘No.’
Enter the amount that has been paid towards your tuition fees.
If the amount that has been paid is included on the Accommodation and Fees section of your CAS/CAS letter click here. If you have a receipt showing the amount that has been paid click here and is not included on your CAS/CAS letter .
You must select ‘Yes’ to this question.
Copy your CAS number accurately from your CAS/CAS Letter.
You will then be taken to a page where you will have the opportunity to check and review all of the answers that you have provided to ensure that they are accurate.
Once you are happy that all of your answers are correct select ‘Continue’ at the bottom of the page.
You will then be taken to a screen confirming that your application is complete. Although at this stage you can still return to your application to make any final changes.
Once you are happy that all of your answers are correct, click ‘Continue to proceed to the document submission section.
The Documents section tells you what supporting documents you need to submit with your visa application.
You can select these links to get additional information about the documents and amount of funds that you will need to demonstrate with your application.
You need to write the name of your bank or other financial institution here and indicate what types of documents you will be submitting.
Once you click ‘Save and continue’ you will have the opportunity to add additional documents.
This section will list the documents that you will be required to submit with your visa application.
You must provide all of the documents requested with your application and failure to do so may lead to your application being delayed or refused.
You will then have a chance to check the documentary requirements for your visa application before proceeding to the final stage.
The final part of the application process is digitally sign the declaration confirming that the information that you have provided is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
When you are happy that your application is complete click the ‘I accept the above’ button.
Please note that once you have clicked the ‘Go to IHS website’ button then you will no longer be able to make any changes to your application. If you require the University to check your application then this must be done before you click this button.
At this stage you can download a copy of your application and get this checked before your application is locked. We strongly recommend saving a copy of your application for your personal records and to provide to the University.
