Oustanding singing Success for

the Compass School, Haddington!

Children at The Compass School, Haddington

have achieved another stunning success in music

by winning The Primary Schools Trophy in the

Children’s Choirs section of the Edinburgh

Festival of Music, Speech and Dance yesterday,

Thursday 1 March at St Cuthbert’s Church,

Edinburgh.

Having previously won the event in 2008 and 2009

and been Runners-Up in 2011 (we were absent in

2010!), the School knew that the competition would

once more be exceptionally strong given the high

standard of choirs performing in previous years. The

class has grown considerably in size over time and

this year included performances by no less than ten

different schools, which included The Edinburgh

Academy (winners in the past two years), the British

School of Amsterdam, Belhaven Hill School and six

local authority schools including James Gillespie’s

PS and Saltoun PS – all of whose children performed

to a very high standard indeed.

The adjudicator, Stuart Smith from the University of

South California and the Birmingham Conservatiore

commented that songs performed by The Compass

children were “lovely and beautifully clear in tone

and words” and that they showed “such discipline

and

enthusiasm – beautifully worked out”. “Bravo!””. He

awarded them an “Excellent Performance”

certificate. To add a very special note to this success,

Mrs Alny Younger, our School’s founder was present

at the event.

Over the years, The Compass has continued to build

upon its reputation for excellence in music and its

achievements during the past few years under Mrs

Lockhart’s direction have been truly exceptional.

The Headmaster, Mark Becher, said: “We are

tremendously proud of what the children have

achieved. Their performance on the day was

exceptional and they put so much into their

performance. We knew that we were up against nine

excellent choirs and we are therefore extremely

honoured to have been awarded first place. To have

won the event three times in four years of entering

the competition is quite remarkable and is a tribute to

the hard work and expertise of our music teacher,

Mrs Renata Lockhart, in preparing the children for

the competition.”

Alumnos y alumnas de The Compass School de

Haddington lograron otro tremendo éxito musical

al ganar el Trofeo del Festival de Edimburgo de

Coros, Poesía y Danza de colegios de primaria.

Teniendo lugar dicho acontecimiento en

Edimburgo el jueves 1 de marzo en la iglesia de

San Cuthbert.

Habiendo vencido en las ediciones de 2008 y 2009 y

quedando en segunda posición en 2011 (¡sin

participación en 2010), la escuela sabía que la

competición iba a estar reñida dado el excelente nivel

mantenido en las actuaciones de años anteriores. El

concurso ha crecido considerablemente a lo largo de

los años y en esta ocasión incluyó actuaciones de

diez escuelas diferentes, incluyendo The Edinburgh

Academy (vencedores en las dos pasadas ediciones),

el colegio británico de Ámsterdam, Belhaven Hill

School y seis colegios públicos entre los que estaban

James Gillespie´s PS y Saltoun PS, actuando todos a

un muy alto nivel.

El juez-árbitro, Stuart Smith de la Universidad de

South California y del Conservatorio de Birmingham

comentó que los temas cantados por los niños de The

Compass School fueron “encantadores y

deliciosamente claros tanto en el tono con en la letra”

y que los alumnos mostraron “gran disciplina y

entusiasmo, y con un trabajo brillante” “¡Bravo!” Los

premió con un certificado de “Actuación Excelente”.

Hizo aún más grande dicho éxito el hecho de que la

señora Alny Younger, fundadora de la escuela,

estuviera presente en el evento.

A lo largo de los años The Compass School ha

confirmado su excelente reputación musical y sus

logros durante los pasados años bajo la brillante

dirección de nuestra profesora de música la señora

Lockhart.

El director del centro Mark Becher, dijo: “Estamos

muy orgullosos de los logros de nuestros alumnos. La

actuación de hoy fue excepcional y se entregaron en

lo que estaban haciendo. Sabíamos que estábamos

competiendo con otros 9 coros escolares de muy

buena calidad y por tanto nos sentimos muy honrados

de haber alcanzado la primera posición. El hecho de

haber vencido tres de las cuatros veces en las que

hemos participado es sin duda remarcable y un

tributo al duro y experto trabajo de nuestra profesora

de música la señorita Renata Lockhart al preparar a

los alumnos para este evento.”

Americans in Sanlucar!

Teaching English in Spain has been a wonderful

and rewarding experience for both of us. Our

Spanish students are the most loving in the

world! We are greeted everyday with hugs and

smiles that warm our hearts and make us feel

welcome! The teachers are really great too –

always helpful and warm-hearted. A few have

really taken advantage of us being in their school

and spend a lot of time practicing their English

with us.

Enseñar inglés en España ha sido una

experiencia maravillosa y gratificante para

ambas. Nuestros alumnos y alumnas españoles

son los más cariñosos del mundo. Cada día nos

saludan con abrazos y sonrisas que dan calor a

nuestros corazones y nos hacen sentirnos

bienvenidas. Los profesores son geniales

también, siempre colaboradores y cariñosos.

Algunos han aprovechado el hecho de que

estuviéramos en el colegio y han pasado mucho

tiempo practicando su inglés con nosotras.

Life in Southern Spain is very different from our

sometimes hectic lives in America. We have

learned to stop and appreciate life, and to have

more time for our friends and family, just like

the Spanish do!

La vida en el sur de España es muy diferente a

nuestras, algunas veces, ajetreadas vidas en

América. Hemos aprendido a pararnos y a

apreciar la vida y a tener más tiempo para

nuestros amigos y familia, ¡como los españoles!

Here´s a little bit more about us:

This is Alyssa´s first year teaching in Spain. She

spent a semester studying abroad in Florence,

Italy where she volunteered as an English

language and culture teacher at a secondary

school. She is from Glen Ellyn, Illinois, a suburb

outside of Chicago. She studied

Communications at Indiana University.

This is Jen´s second year teaching in Spain, but

her first year at Guadalquivir. She also spent a

semester abroad, but in Seville (just an hour by

car from Sanlúcar). She studied Journalism and

Spanish at Northeastern University in Boston.

Alyssa and Jen on vacation in Venice, Italy this past

December...so cold!

She is from Middletown, New York, about an

hour´s drive northwest of New York City.

Aquí tenéis algo más sobre nosotros:

Este es el primer año de Alyssa trabajando en

España. Pasó un semestre estudiando en

Florencia (Italia), dónde estuvo prestando

servicios de voluntariado como profesora de

cultura y lengua inglesa en un instituto. Es de

Glen Hellín (Illinois), un suburbio a las afueras

de Chicago. Estudió Comunicaciones en la

Universidad de Indiana.

Este es el segundo años de Jen en un colegio en

España, aunque el primero en el CEIP

Guadalquivir. También pasó un semestre en el

extranjero, pero en este caso en Sevilla (a una

hora de Sanlúcar). Estudió Periodismo y

Español en la Universidad Northeastern de

Boston. Es de Middletwon (Nueva York), a más o

menos una hora de la ciudad de Nueva York.

Are you ready?

El lunes 16 de Abril, 25 alumnos de tercer ciclo

de primaria, se desplazaron hasta Málaga para

participar en un programa concurso en la

televisión regional andaluza. El concurso, que se

desarrolla en Inglés, cuenta como participantes

con los centros bilingües de Andalucía.

Aunque nuestros alumnos no resultaron

ganadores, volvieron muy contentos por la

experiencia vivida.

On Monday April 16th, 25 Form 7 & 8 students

went to Malaga to take part in a TV Show on

Canal Sur. The show was in English and

students from many other bilingual schools in

Andalusia also participated. Although our

students did not win, they came back very happy

having had such a great experience.

Compass Care

My name is Andrew Goddard and I manage

Compass Care, the Compass School After

School Club. We provide activities and playtime

for children that cannot be collected when school

finishes at 3pm, or 12pm on Fridays, and look

after some of them until 6pm during term time.

We are there to help working families that need

longer day care. As there are so many extra

activities to do after school, we also look after

children that might be attending other clubs, i.e.

hockey, Scottish Country dancing or swimming.

If the children are staying late we feed them

supper, usually something like pasta, pizza or

chicken wraps.

When we have good weather we spend as much

time as possible out in the play ground. The

children like to play football, rugby and

basketball or build dens and camps out of sheets

and play tents.

Me llamo Andrew Goddard y estoy encargado de

Compass Care, es decir de las actividades

extraescolares después de clase. Ofrecemos

actividades y tiempo de juego a los niños cuyos

padres no pueden recoger cuando se acaban las

clases a las 15:00, o a las 12:00 los viernes y

cuidamos de ellos hasta las seis de la tarde.

Estamos aquí para ayudar a las familias

trabajadoras que necesitan mayor tiempo de

cuidado para sus hijos. Como hay tanto que

hacer al terminar las clases también cuidamos

de los alumnos que más tarde tienen que

participar en alguno de los clubes, por ejemplo,

Bailes Escoceses o Natación. Si se quedan muy

tarde también les damos la cena, normalmente

pasta, pizza, fajitas de pollo o algo por el estilo.

Cuando el tiempo es bueno usamos mucho el

patio. A los niños y niñas les encanta jugar a

fútbol, baloncesto o hacemos guaridas y

jugamos con la tienda de campaña.

Museo de la Miel…¡Qué dulce!

El lunes día 19 de Marzo, los alumnos de infantil

de 3 y 4 años, fueron con sus profesoras al

Museo de la miel. Allí desayunaron, realizaron

diversas actividades y pudieron aprender “in

situ” cómo elaboran la miel las abejas. También

pudieron vestirse de apicultores, lo que les gustó

mucho.

Sus compañeros de infantil de 5 años no

quisieron ser menos y visitaron el mismo museo

el jueves 22 de marzo, disfrutando como sus

compañeros, del dulce manjar.

On Monday March 19th, 3 and 4 year old

classes went to the Honey Museum. They had

breakfast there and tried different activities .

They also learned how bees make honey. What

they really enjoyed was when they got dressed as

beekeepers. Form 2 went to the Museum three

days later and they also enjoy their visit very

much.

Form One On The Farm!

Form One has visited a local farm called East

Links Family Park. There are lots of animals to

see there, such as, Highland Cows, chicks,

Llamas, Horses, Sheep and even some Reindeer!

Form One has been learning about where

animals live. We know that some animals live

on the Farm. We have also been learning the

names of baby animals on the farm. We had a

very special visit from a baby lamb who had a

broken leg. He was called Friday because he

was born on a Friday and he was extremely well

behaved. We all got a turn to stroke him. Can

you spot his ‘plaster’?

Infantil de 4 años ha visitado una granja de la

zona llamada East Links Family Park. Se pueden

ver muchos animales allí, como las vacas de las

tierras altas, pollos, llamas, caballos, ovejas e

¡incluso algunos renos! Los alumnos de infantil

han aprendido sobre dónde viven los animales.

Sabemos que algunos animales viven en la

granja. También aprendimos el nombre de las

nuevas crías en la granja. También tuvimos la

oportunidad de ver un corderito con una pata

rota, se llamaba Viernes, ya que nació en

viernes y tenía un comportamiento ejemplar. Nos

turnamos para acariciarlo. ¿Puedes ver el yeso

que tiene?

¡Esto es carnaval, esto es carnaval!

El viernes 24 de Febrero, todos los alumnos de

Infantil, celebraron su fiesta de carnaval. El tema

principal era un paseo por los cuentos infantiles

de todos los tiempos. Así que el centro se llenó

de piratas, princesas, Caperucitas, superhéroes,

brujas... Cada niño quería ser el personaje de su

cuento favorito. Los profesores se disfrazaron

también y, todos juntos, hicieron un recorrido

por todo el colegio, visitando las distintas aulas y

animando a todos con su repertorio de canciones

carnavalescas.

On February 24th all the Pre-primary students

celebrated a Carnival Party. It was all about

Famous Children’s Stories, so the school was

full of pirates, princesses, Red-Riding Hoods,

superheroes, witches... Each child wanted to

become his/her favourite character. The teachers

were also in costumes and all together made a

parade visiting the different classrooms &

making everyone merry by singing Carnival

songs.

Form 2 Update.

In Form 2, we all painted a portrait of our Mum

and stood up to tell the audience how fantastic

our Mums are. We also sang songs. The Mums

had tears in their eyes!

Adam’s Grandfather visited Form 2 in the

classroom to talk about life when he was a boy.

He brought lots of things for us to touch and

examine. We found it interesting to learn how

people lived in the past.

Form 2 had a fun Easter Hunt in the playground.

They displayed good team work while hiding

and finding chocolate eggs.

Great fun and Chocolatey faces all round!

Todos los niños y niñas de infantil de 5 años

pintaron un retrato de sus madres y se

levantaron para contar al público presente lo

fantásticas que sus madres son. También

cantamos canciones y las madres tenían las

lágrimas saltadas.

El abuelo de Adam vino a la clase para

hablarnos de cuando era pequeño. Trajo muchas

cosas para que las tocáramos y las

examináramos. Nos pareció muy interesante

aprender como la gente vivía en el pasado.

Tuvimos una Búsqueda de huevos de pascua en

el patio. Mostraron habilidades de trabajo en

equipo al esconder y encontrar los huevos de

chocolate.

Día de Andalucía

El miércoles día 29 de febrero, aunque con un

poco retraso, celebramos en el colegio el día de

Andalucía. Después de escuchar el himno e izar

la bandera, se dedicó el tiempo a los juegos

populares andaluces. Los alumnos de sexto curso

de primaria fueron los encargados de ayudar a

sus compañeros más pequeños a conocer los

juegos con los que se divertían sus padres y

madres cuando tenían su edad. La jornada

resultó un éxito y todos los alumnos del colegio

disfrutaron jugando a juegos a los que ya nadie

juega. Charlie Rex no se perdió detalle,

asegurando que cuando vuelva a Escocia

enseñará a sus amigos nuevas formas de

divertirse.

On Wednesday February 29th, we celebrated the

Andalusian Day. After listening to the

Andalusian Anthem and raising the flag, we

were enjoying ourselves with old Andalusian

street games. Form 8 students were helping the

little ones to get to know the games their parents

used to have fun with, when they were their age.

The day was a complete success and all the

students enjoyed themselves playing unknown

street games. Charlie Rex was paying careful

attention to make sure he could teach the

Scottish children new ways of enjoying

themselves.

Time for Form 3

Form 3 have continued to be very active and

busy throughout the year. We had a fabulous

time when we designed, made and evaluated our

kite designs. We enjoyed running with these and

testing to see how well they flew in the air!

La clase de primero se ha mantenido muy activa

y ocupada durante este curso. Nos los pasamos

genial cuando diseñamos y construimos nuestros

diseños de cometas. Estuvo muy bien cuando

corrimos con ellas y las probamos para ver lo

bien que volaban.

We have been investigating and researching the

Vikings. We enjoyed visiting a museum,

designing and making Viking longboats, shields

and helmets. We really enjoyed this project as

we found it both interesting and fascinating.

Hemos estado trabajando y buscando

información sobre los vikingos, fuimos a un

museo y diseñamos y hicimos barcos vikingos,

escudos y cascos. Nos lo pasamos muy bien ya

que encontramos ese tema interesante y

fascinante.

We have continued to keep fit and healthy and

have been enjoying Judo as well as our many

other sports such as swimming, hockey, tag

rugby, dance and games sessions.

Seguimos estando en forma y nos pasamos

estupendamente en clase de Judo así como en

otros deportes al aire libre como natación,

hockey, rugby, baile y juegos.

We had a super time choosing the ingredients

and making sandwiches. The best part was the

taste test! They were very good.

We are all looking forward to our final term and

the challenges and exciting times ahead.

También estuvo muy bien cuando elegimos

ingredientes y hicimos bocadillos. ¡La mejor

parte fue la degustación! Estaban muy buenos.

Estamos preparados para nuestro tercer

trimestre y para los desafíos venideros.

¡Nuevos jefes!

El inicio del tercer trimestre nos sorprendió con

el cambio del Equipo Directivo del centro, ya

que nuestro anterior director Don Eduardo

Martínez Salgado, se jubiló el día 3 de Abril. Los

nuevos integrantes del equipo directivo son: Don

José Luis García Barba (director), Don Gerardo

Batista Sañudo (Jefe de Estudios) y, Doña Isabel

Venegas Vega (Secretaria). A todos ellos les

felicitamos por sus nuevos cargos y les deseamos

que todo les vaya muy bien.

At the begining of the Summer Term the

Management Team changed in our school,

because our former Head Teacher retired on

April 3rd. The new members of our Management

Team are Mr. José Luís García Barba (Head

Teacher), Mr. Gerardo Batista Sañudo (Deputy

Head) and Mrs. Isabel Venegas Vega (Bursar).

We congratulate them and we also wish them all

the best.

Form 4 – Attention, Science!!!

When Form 4 first heard our topic was science

we thought it was too grown-up for us. But it

was actually really fun. We drew and painted

science potions, we studied forces and magnets.

We drew scientists and coloured them in. We did

Science on “Education City” as well. Form 4

absolutely loved science and they always will!

Cuando los alumnos de segundo se enteraron de

que su próxima unidad iba a ser sobre ciencias

pensamos que eso era demasiado para nosotros.

Pero fue muy bien. Dibujamos pociones

químicas, estudiamos las fuerzas y el

magnetismo. Dibujamos científicos y los

coloreamos. Estuvimos trabajando con los

ordenadores y el programa de ciencias de

“Education City”. La clase de segundo disfrutó

muchísimo y siempre lo hará.

Excursión a Doñana (Daniel Monge)

El día 24 de Abril, los alumnos de 6º curso de

primaria, nos hemos encontrado delante de la

Fábrica de Hielo, en Bajo de Guía, para cruzar el

río Guadalquivir en una barcaza y hacer una

excursión por el Parque Nacional de Doñana

Cuando llegamos al Parque (después de cruzar el

río) nos estaba esperando el microbús que nos

llevaría de visita por todo Doñana.

Vimos gran cantidad de animales: jabalíes,

gamos, caballos salvajes… y mucha vegetación.

A las 10:30 hicimos una parada para desayunar

tras la cual el conductor del microbús nos llevó

hasta las dunas, donde lo pasamos genial

tirándonos y rodando por ellas.

Sobre las 13:00 nos marchamos de las dunas

hasta el punto de encuentro desde donde

embarcamos de nuevo para volver a Sanlúcar

donde nos estaban esperando nuestros padres.

On April 24th, Form 8 students went to The Ice

House to cross The Guadalquivir river on a

barge and go on an excursion round Doñana

National Park. When we reached the Park, after

crossing the river, a minibus was waiting for us,

to take us around.

We saw a great range of animals: wild pigs,

deer, wild horses and a lot of vegetation. At

10:30 we had a break and ate our breakfast and

later, the bus driver took us to the dunes where

we really enjoyed ourselves, as we dived and

rolled on them.

About 13:00 we came back to the meeting point

and crossed back to Sanlúcar where our parents

were waiting for us.

A ‘grape’ way to learn Maths!

Here’s a tasty and healthy way to study shape!

The children in Form 5 have been making

various different 3D shapes by using cocktail

sticks and grapes. This was a fun way to

discover how many faces, edges, and corners

each shape has. Here are some different shapes

being made – can you tell what they are called?!

Aquí puedes encontrar una manera deliciosa y

sana de estudiar las figuras. Los chicos y chicas

de tercero han estado montando diferentes

figuras en tres dimensiones usando palillos y

uvas. Fue una manera divertida de descubrir

cuántas caras, aristas y esquinas tienes cada

figura. Aquí puedes encontrar algunas figuras de

las que hicieron. ¿Puedes nombrarlas?

El Real Fernando (Esperanza Domínguez)

El martes 24 de abril fuimos a una excursión al

coto de Doñana, había dos excursiones diferentes

una en un barco llamado el Real Fernando y otra

en un microbús por dentro del parque, a mi me

tocó ir en el Real Fernando antes de subirnos al

barco entramos a ver la fábrica de hielo mientras

una de las guías sacaba los "tickets" allí vimos

cosas muy interesantes como una réplica del

barco en el que Cristóbal Colón llegó a América.

Cuando nos sacaron los "tickets" nos montamos

en el barco, que nos transportó hasta el antiguo

"Poblado de la Plancha" y allí vimos como eran

y como se hacían las casas antiguamente y

también fuimos a un observatorio desde el que

vimos muchos animales como vacas

marismeñas, caballos etc.

Luego nos volvimos a montar en el barco que

nos llevó hasta las conocidas marismas de

Doñana. Aunque no vimos ningún ave en las

marismas en el recorrido de vuelta que hicimos

en el barco pudimos observar aves típicas de la

zona como milanos negros, garzas y gaviotas.

Nos divertimos mucho y aprendimos

muchísimas cosas interesantes sobre Doñana.

On Tuesday April 24th we had an outing to

Doñana National Park. Some of the students

went on a boat called Real Fernando and the

rest went on a bus visiting the park. I belonged

to the first group. Before boarding the boat we

visited The Ice House while our guide bought the

tickets. There we saw very interesting things, for

example a replica of the ship used by

Christopher Columbus when he discovered

America.

Once we had our tickets, we boarded the ship

and it took us to the old “Poblado de la

Plancha”, and there we saw how those people

used to live and the way their houses were made.

We also visited an observatory from where we

saw Marismeña Cows, horses etc.

After that, the boat took as towards the well-

known Marismas of Doñana. Although we

couldn’t watch any bird there, on our way back

we saw some of the typical ones of the area such

as black kites, heron and seagulls.

We had a fantastic time and learnt lots of

interesting facts about Doñana.

Form 6 Adventures!!!

We have had a very busy term with lots of

exciting trips. We visited one of our local

churches where Canon Dyer told us all about the

history of the church, the artefacts found in the

church and the various ceremonies that take

place there. She also let us try on some of her

robes.

Hemos tenido un trimestre muy ocupado con

montones de salidas chulísimas. Visitamos una

de las iglesias de Haddington donde la

Reverenda Anne Dyer nos estuvo hablando

sobre la historia de la iglesia, sobre el

mobiliario, instrumentos y las distintas

ceremonias que allí tienen lugar.

York Visit

In March we went on an overnight trip to York.

We went by train and whilst we were there we

visited many attractions. These included visits to

The York Castle Museum where we learnt about

life in Victorian Times, York Minster which is

an amazing cathedral, The Shambles which is a

famous York street., Jorvik Viking Museum

where we went back in time to see what life was

like in York when the Vikings lived there.

Finally we visited the National Railway Museum

where we saw the fastest train the world ‘The

Bullet Train’ from Japan

In marzo fuimos de viaje a York, con noche fuera

incluída. Fuimos en tren y mientras estuvimos

allí visitamos muchas atracciones. Entre otras el

museo del Castillo de Cork dónde aprendimos

mucho sobre la vida en los tiempos victorianos.

York Minster que es una catedral alucinante.

The Shambles que es una calle muy famosa de

York. El museo vikingo dónde viajamos en el

tiempo para ver cómo era la vida in York cuando

los vikingos vivían allí. Para acabar visitamos el

Museo Nacional del Tren donde pudimos ver el

tren más rápido del mundo “The Bullet Train”

de Japón.

Amazonia

We visited ‘Amazonia’ where we learnt more

about the rainforest, a topic which we have been

studying this term. We even got to handle some

of the animals.

Visitamos “Amazonia” dónde aprendimos más

sobre la selva, unidad que hemos estado

estudiando durante este trimestre. Incluso

pudimos coger algunos animales.

Día del Libro

El lunes 23 de Abril nuestro centro celebró el día

del libro con un maratón de lectura dedicado a

Federico García Lorca. Todos los alumnos del

colegio participaron en dicho maratón. Para ello

los profesores de cada curso, eligieron los

poemas que sus alumnos recitarían.

El colegio permaneció abierto durante toda la

mañana para que los padres que así lo desearan

pudieran entrar y escuchar a sus hijos recitar.

También participaron todos los alumnos del

colegio en el concurso de cuentos que, como

cada año, se celebró. El jurado que valoró los

cuentos y concedió los premios, estuvo formado

por profesores, miembros de la AMPA y

personal no docente del centro.

Los premios estuvieron muy reñidos ya que

nuestros alumnos cada día se esfuerzan más para

que sus creaciones literarias sean merecedoras de

un premio o mención especial.

On April 23rd we celebrated THE BOOK DAY

in our school with an activity named Reading

Marathon after Federico García Lorca. All the

students took part in it. Teachers chose the

poems to be read.

It was an Open Day morning to welcome

families to see their children reading.

We also had our Traditional Story Contest. The

Trial (some parents and members of staff)

watched all of them and gave prizes. It was very

difficult to reach a final decision because the

level of many stories was outstanding.

The train journey

On the 13th

of March 2012 Form 7 of The

Compass School visited London. They departed

from Edinburgh Waverley at 8 o,clock and

arrived in Kings Cross station at 12.30. Stuart

The Tower of London

After they had arrived in Kings Cross they went

to visit The Tower of London. Everyone had to

do a talk on a part of London and Alastair

McQueenie, Georgia Williamson, Archie

Anderson, Yasmin Van Der Linde and Isabella

Archibald all did their talks on The Tower of

London.

Matilda

On the second night they went to see the award

winning musical, Matilda. They saw it in the

Cambridge theatre. Alastair McQueenie said “I

thought it was brilliant because it was comedy

but it was also serious.” He also said he liked all

the young actors. The actors were aged between

10 and 12.

La segundo noche fuero a ver el musical de

Matilda. Lo vieron en el teatro Cambridge.

Alastair McQueenie said “Pensé que era genial

Hamleys

On their final day, Form 7 visited the famous toy

shop, Hamleys. Some of the pupils thought that

it was overpriced and that it was a bit childish.

They arrived back in Waverly at about 7.30.

Alastair McQueenie gave the trip 9 out of 10.

Form 8 What Our Body Needs to Help us Exercise.

Our body needs bones – they are what give us

our shape. We have lots of muscles in our body,

which cover the bones and join them together.

Bones are connected by joints, which enable us

to move. So, when exercising, for example

playing hockey, we use all the bones, muscles

and joints. We use our legs to run. We use arms

to hit the ball. Our ankle joints, knees and wrists

make us flexible and give us the ability to run

and push the ball where we would like it to go.

Muscles in our bodies give us the strength to

exercise.

Nuestro cuerpo necesita los huesos, son los que

nos dan forma. Tenemos muchos músculos en

nuestro cuerpo los cuales cubren los huesos y

los unen. Los huesos están conectados por las

articulaciones, que nos permiten movernos.
