And after a decade of a growing funding gap between metro and rural schools the DFL-led Legislature reduced the funding disparity by a third in just two years. Unemployment is down in Greater Minnesota after the DFL Legislature invested in Greater Minnesota economic development programs to help businesses expand and create jobs. Property taxes in rural Minnesota dropped in 2014 for the first time in a decade thanks to the new Homestead Credit Refund - a big change from the rural property tax hikes in 2012. Made the state’s first big investment - $20 million - to accelerate broadband in Greater Minnesota, benefiting our schools, businesses and communities. Provided the first increase in funding for our nursing homes and community-based providers in more than four years to help assure high quality care for our senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Democrats recognize the pressure rising land values and falling crop prices has put on farmers in our state. The new ag-tax credit will provide further tax relief to more than 90,000 Minnesota farmers. The DFL-led legislature created a new program and provided $10 million to assist counties in preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species in our lakes and rivers. Invested over $10 million per year to expand the farm-to-school program, provided grants for start-up and expansion of family farm livestock operations, and expanded the Farm-to-Food Shelf program. The legislature invested $750 million in transportation infrastructure through programs like the new Corridors of Commerce initiative.
