The famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil, may have claimed to not see his shadow, but it seems that Spring is never coming to the U.S. A monster snowstorm hit in late January, 2011, leaving 2 feet of snow across the third of the country.
Roads were closed, many schools were shut. The storm is one of the worst in decades. Homes lost power. Tons of people were rescued from their cars that were covered in snowdrifts.
“A storm like this is very rare. A storm that produced a swath of 20 inch snow is something we see every 50 years, maybe” Thomas Spriggs, a meteorologist said.

The deep snow, inches of ice, and gusting winds are leaving the U.S. at a standstill. Airport passengers had to stay at least one night in the terminals. Roads closed, cars were covered in snow. It left many people stranded in there homes. Roofs of houses collapsed, many survived, but few were not as lucky. Ice also put many people in hospitals. Over ten deaths have been reported.
