DO sports with your parents! A study shows that children are healthier when they exercise
and diet under their parents’ guid-ance.
The Boys’ and Girls’ Club Asso-ciation of Hong Kong (BGCA, 香港小童群益會) works with Mead Johnson Hong Kong on the “Feeding Hope” programme (美贊臣童懷希望計劃) on children’s health. They interviewed 80 parents and children aged six to 12. Nearly 80 percent of them had developed habits of exercising and over 70 percent of them became sick less easily.
Wong Kwai-yau (黃貴有) from BGCA said parents are important to young children’s health development. He suggests parents should spend more time exercising with their kids.
DO you keep a pet at home? We should take care of the animals and not abuse or aban-don them.
Over 1,000 animal rights advocates took to the streets recently. What was their message? They were asking the government to hire animal police officers. The protesters said there have been many animal abuse cases recently. They believe the gov-ernment has not done enough to investigate and stop these cases.
The organising committee said there were over 1,000 participants at the protest. But the police said there were 600. Many protesters brought along their pets to walk from Central to the government headquarters in Admiralty. Animal Earth (動物地球) founder and chief officer David Wong Kai-yan (黃繼仁) said the police treat animal abuse cases as minor cases. He said they are not willing to follow up on them. One of the protesters said many other countries have an animal police service.
The police responded by saying it is hard to set up the service because there are not enough police officers at the moment.
