As Catholics, we follow these sacrificial practices during Lent:
Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all those who are 14
years of age and older, on Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays in
Lent and on Good Friday.
Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday
by all who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are
bound to fast may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals
are permitted to maintain strength according to individual needs,
but eating sold food between meals is not permitted.

8th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Emails. Carpools. Shopping lists. Home repairs. It can
seem like we move so quickly from one thing to the next. Our
news comes in sound bites and headlines. How often do we take
time for silence, for prayer, for reflection, for wisdom? Jesus
warns us of stumbling through life without an adequate sense of
where we're going. "Can a blind person guide a blind person?
Will not both fall into a pit?" This Sunday's Gospel isn't about
fumbling along but offers a self-check on our own motivations.
"Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye,
but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?" Without
adequate self-reflection, it's easy to become blind to our own
faults. We go through life's motions as our bad habits linger or
even increase. We may become increasingly impatient, we may
avoid important tasks, we may neglect the emotional needs of
our spouse. Perhaps, in the process, we find fault with those
around us. In the words of Jesus, "remove the wooden beam
from your own eye first."
LIGHT OF THE WORLD RETREAT
Join us for a soul searching, loving and energizing
retreat. For the 2nd time, we are bringing to
Good Shepherd Parish the incredible Light of the
World retreat. Have you always thought about
going on a Catholic retreat to restore your faith?
Have you wondered how you could become hap-
pier and more fulfilled every day? We have an
easy solution. Since the retreat will be held here
at Good Shepherd, there are no overnights or long
travel distances. You go home each night, rest and we feed you when
you return--physically and spiritually! The retreat will be held on Friday
evening March 29th, Saturday and Sunday March 30 and 31 and
will conclude on Monday evening April 1st. This is FREE to all pa-
rishioners, their family and their friends of any denomination who are 18
years and older. Get closer to Jesus Christ and let His Light enter your
world each and every day. We have the tools! More information to fol-
low in upcoming bulletins.
Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowls
Rice Bowls are available at all church entrances this weekend. Please
take one home and throughout Lent, drop in your spare change or curren-
cy. All contributions are forwarded to Catholic Relief Services, which
provides life-saving assistance in nearly 100 countries. CRS works on
our behalf to care for the poorest of the poor in our world and to end
global poverty. CRS also funds agricultural and water projects and
mother and child health projects. The CRS Rice Bowl Project asks us to:
Pray to deepen our relationship with God and to reflect on what type of
person He calls us to be.
Fast to remove the things that get between us and God and to live in
solidarity with those in need.
Give Alms to our brothers and sisters in need, honoring Jesus’ call to
serve our neighbors.
Our Lady of the Valley School has openings in Kindergar-
ten, 1st and 2nd grade. OLV offers Spanish, Art, Music, Phys. Ed. And
Technology classes. OLV has a Before and After School Care Program!

sixth, seventh and eighth grade are encouraged to attend. Please visit
their website www.nda-worc.org to pre-register. NDA is the only Catho-
lic private and independent college preparatory school for young girls in
