Pastor Kurt Pasko has become a familiar face around the Good Neighbor Society over this past year. He and his wife, Dulcie, lead worship at least twice a month and share their musical talents in special programs and events throughout our campus. He visits residents of the Good Neighbor Home and Garden View on Monday and Friday afternoons, Marietta’s Place on Wednesday after- noons, and The Meadows on Tuesday afternoons. He also conducts a popular Bible Study at the Meadows on Thursday afternoons. Pastor Kurt retired from Community Congregational Church after serv- ing as their pastor for 18 years. He was already a familiar face around the Good Neighbor Society because of his frequent visits to church members and friends from the community. He was a natural choice to step-in to help fill the spiritual and personal needs of our residents. His cheerful greeting, sense of humor and compassionate demeanor have made him a welcome visitor for residents and staff alike. Pastor Kurt has a background in pastoral counseling and has helped many of our residents find answers to their spiritual questions and concerns. He has also helped families deal with their grief and fear during the death of a loved one and has conducted funerals for several residents who did not have a church home or pastor in the area. If you would like Pastor Kurt to stop by for a visit, please let any of the Recreation Staff, Nursing Staff, or Administrative Staff know and they will contact him for you. FLU SEASON IS UPON US A reminder as the flu season has arrived that if you are not feeling well, have a cough or fever, sore throat, headache, muscle aches or fatigue, or have been around someone that has been having these symptoms, please choose another day to come for a visit. Our residents are at high risk for developing serious complications such as pneumonia if they were to get sick from the flu. Some viruses and germs can live for two hours or more on surfaces like door- knobs, desks and tables. And remember, the Center for Disease Control says having a flu shot makes you 62% less likely to get the flu. Seek advice from your physician if you question if the flu vaccine is right for you. Please be aware of how you are feeling and make a wise decision when coming to the Good Neighbor Society cam- pus so we ALL stay healthy as we go into 2018. NOTICE Winter Weather Changes We are entering the winter season and know that the weather conditions can change anytime. PLEASE be mindful of the condi- tions of the concrete when coming into our buildings and/or exiting. Maintenance is on staff to clear snow and add traction to the concrete. Remember that salt boxes and snow shovels are by every en- trance for your use to aide in main- taining a safe environment for all employees, residents and visi- tors. Thank you for your coopera- tion. Good Neighbor Society Safety Committee

INDEPENDENCE SECURITY SOCIALIZATION QUALITY

All of us at the Good Neighbor

Society would like to thank the many indi-viduals, churches, community groups, em-ployees and family members, who donated Christmas gifts and provided Christmas programs, caroling, cards, goodies and vis-its for our residents. You helped to bright-en the Christmas Season for the residents by remembering them on this most joyous and blessed holiday. Your generosity and thoughtfulness are very much appreciated. God bless you all!

The annual Christmas party was enjoyed by everyone. David Poggenklass entertained with his music and the crowd joined him in singing many of their favorite songs, followed by special greetings throughout the building from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Good Neighbor Home Beauty Shop If families want their residents’ hair done for

a special occasion or holiday, please let your beauti-cian know in advance. We always want residents to look their best! Also, if you have an outing planned on your resident’s “hair day,” please communicate this as well so plans can be made accordingly. And don’t for-get they request a 2-3 week advance notice for perms! Thank you!

Good Neighbor Home Room Reservations As holidays and special occasions approach each year keep in mind that it’s never too early to book a room/area/lounge for your family gatherings. Whether it’s a birthday celebration or major holiday, or your group is large or small, it’s important to remember that once ca-pacity has been reached for our available spaces/seating we can no longer accommodate your request. Please contact the Good Neighbor Home Recreation Dept. to book that room or lounge. Thank You!

Everyone had a good time at the annual Christmas party at the Good Neighbor Home. Mrs. Claus kept a close eye on Santa for the afternoon as he couldn’t help but dance a step or two.
